Continuing Mounjaro...part 4

Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I wasn’t going to write this post, but I think it’s important for the psychological side.

I have posted about period weight gain and this means I am gaining weight each day.

I have gained another pound this morning.

I have actually cried about this.

I am eating the same thing daily. The same thing I have lost nearly two stone on. Last night I ate a little pot of Hotel Chocolat choc buttons. So yay. Guess that means I gain a pound.

I know it’s probably period. This isn’t theoretically possibly. But it’s breaking me. Why the hell do I keep gaining 5 days into period?

I knew I was messed up with eating but how can I take MJ, have no appetite, eat the same thing and be gaining?

Rant over. I want to binge and eat my feelings, but I can’t do that on MJ I’d be sick.

Sorry all. I had to get it out.

Don't beat your self up. During periods our body retains water. And you know what the more water you drink the body looses it. It is counter intuitive but the body says that if she is drinking that much , then I don't need to hang on to this damn water ! So you know what ....DRINK MORE WATER ! Also it Iis doing wonders for the skin and the constipation 😇

@ObsidianTree it's a tough one because some of us have genuinely used it and could benefit from their code being used. I don't know really. I've decided I won't use it myself and if I did, I would ask one of you who I know are genuine to share your code.
I don't know tbh. Interested to see what the others think as well.

Please leave Voy on. I was a bit suspicious as well but they also posted some explainers on some symptom. Let's nit cancel anybody as we have benefited from their discounts.

VoyOySaveloy · 10/04/2024 09:40

Morning all!
I have cancelled my subscription and will check away my pen tonight (safely). Sadly I can't cope with these side effects. I can barely eat anything at all, and whilst I didn't have the racing heart last night I did have very disturbed sleep with nausea and a terrible headache. I am surviving on paracetamol. In positive news I have lost almost a kilogram in 2 days, lol.

I do appreciate that if I stick with it the side effects may dissipate but looking elsewhere some people have had recurrences of the fast heart rate with any alcohol, or moving up a dose, and I just don't think I can handle that anxiety. It feels like absolute waves of fear and it's horrible.

I don't regret giving it a try. I think it's actually galvanized my mindset that for me there is no quick fix and that willpower and a good plan is what I need. I got myself here and I can get myself out.

Wishing you all lots of luck and good health on your journeys.

Dear @VoyOySaveloy
Since you already have the MJ in you why don't you postpone disposing of the pen in a week. This is so you can observe how your side effects dissipate? Before you mKe that ultimate decision . The pen wasn't cheap and you may have come thru the worst already 😃

Apologies if this has been covered already but can I ask why people are choosing this over Wegovy? I'm currently researching and musing on both. Thanks

Mainly because, in trails mounjaro was the most effective for weight loss. Also the side effects on Mounjaro are less severe than Wegovy side effects.

Some people do get some bad side effects on Mounjaro, but on wegovy it seems like many feel terrible on it most of the time. On Mounjaro I think most people have minimal side effects.

I’ve been on the fence for weeks but after this price I took the plunge. Guess I’ll be joining you all in the Mounjaro journey :)

I spoke with Bolt using the chat feature regarding the expiry dates and apparently all current stock in the UK has the same expiry which is at the end of May. Not a problem for me since mine should arrive on Friday and I intend on starting over the weekend.

Good luck :)

Dose two taken this morning before breakfast. Had a weigh in too and seem to have put on weight. I so feel smaller though.

In the past 24 hours I have developed muscle aches and hunger too. So not feeling the love anymore. But I am eating way less and not feeling bad about it.

FlappyFish · 11/04/2024 07:15

@oaode I know that practically it’s the total head screw. Before MJ this used to happen every period. First two periods it didn’t happen to this extent. I just plateaued and not actively gained.

I have had the most banging headache for two days. It’s made me feel sick. Very unusual for me. I wonder if I’m actually unwell.

I need to listen to my body.
Thanks all for posting, as always, and onwards and upwards!

FlappyFish · 11/04/2024 07:19

Weight in time then!

SW:14.1
CW: 12.6

2 lb gain.

I’ve lost track almost. This is week 8 and injection 9 tm I think.

I have it all on MFP.

Keepthepeace82 · 11/04/2024 07:39

Took the 5th 2.5mg dose by twisting the pen...super easy to do, so it should save money by lengthening out the time spent on each pen. Lost 7lbs this week! After the gain last week, I decided I needed to follow a food plan of some sort, so I'm glad it's showed on the scales.

SW: 15st 7.5lbs

Week 1: -7.5lbs (2.5mg)

Week 2: -2.5lbs (2.5mg)

Week 3: + 1lbs (2.5mg)

Week 4: - 7lbs (2.5 mg)

CW: 14st 5.5lbs

Total lost:- 1st 2lbs

MelissaLouRocks · 11/04/2024 07:44

That's a great loss @Keepthepeace82, well done!

Taken from the online Lloyds pharmacy which I found really helpful.

I'm a bit worried. Been really poorly for a couple of days (disability, not Mounjaro), and been sleeping on and off for 2 days. As a result, I've literally not eaten a thing. Now worried it's going to adversely affect any possible loss this week. 😕

Thankfully feeling much better today, but it's so bloody frustrating when things get in the way!

And thanks so much for setting up the FB @ObsidianTree , have joined. 😊

Welp. Royal Mail has actually lost my Medexpress parcel.

How I wish Medexpress had a phone number to ring!

@FlappyFish I think we can all relate to the headfuck. My dp is also on MJ and if he has a gain I'm all for saying it's water / salt / normal fluctuation etc but when it's me I don't believe any of that and just feel crap.

I'm glad I don't have access to scales here. I won't weigh myself until next Tuesday now.

When I took my extra dose on Tuesday, I ended up having to use 2 needles as the first go took the plunger to the bottom but there was still liquid left so I did it again for the last bit. So now I'm wondering how much I took. I feel very queasy but am managing to eat, and after several days of constipation, I now have the runs!

MelissaLouRocks · 11/04/2024 08:12

You're welcome @Umeboshiune , hope it helps!

ObsidianTree · 11/04/2024 08:16

@FlappyFish time of the month is such an annoyance. It's so unfair that that inconvenience makes us gain weight for no reason and give us cravings etc! Hope you feel better soon

OP posts:
JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 11/04/2024 08:16

Morning. Injection day 3 and I've just weighed.

SW: 263.6 lbs
CW: 255.2 lbs

Week 1 loss: 6.8lbs
Week 2 loss: 1.6lbs

I'm happy enough with that! I have discovered how to change the units from stones to lbs finally, which is much more useful when weighing daily.

About weighing daily - I was nervous about doing that as an uptick in the scales could ruin my day, however it's interesting to see on the graph that the trend goes down overall - not as scary as I thought!
