Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Stolen from another thread and found it fascinating. It's called the satiety scale. You should always aim for green and only rarely on yellow. Never on red.

I’ve been on the fence for weeks but after this price I took the plunge. Guess I’ll be joining you all in the Mounjaro journey :)

I spoke with Bolt using the chat feature regarding the expiry dates and apparently all current stock in the UK has the same expiry which is at the end of May. Not a problem for me since mine should arrive on Friday and I intend on starting over the weekend.

@IJustLoveBaking
I got my first one from Voy with the 50% discount and it has an expiry of end June so some other expiries are floating about! That was a few weeks ago though.

@CiderJabs

A few years ago I used a book from, of all people, Paul McKenna called "I can make you thin" or something that uses this satiety scale. It comes with a self-hypnosis type cd too but didn't use that as I'm not into that, just used the principles and reasoning in the book and slowly lost about 8-10 pounds over 3 months very painlessly.

I didn't have much to lose at the time and it doesn't seem to work quite as well now I'm fat and menopausal, but will use it for maintenance, along with exercise.

CiderJabs · 11/04/2024 08:32

@lurkylurk that was posted on a thread which is on active this morning about someone who has been off wegovy a couple of months and has already put on 1/3 of the weight back. This is so worrying. It happens far too often :(

I think I will only need to be on this for about 3 jabs as I'm short and had 3st to lose (but would be sort of ok at 2st off) but now I'm panicking I'll put it all back on and will have to do it again next year. I wish there was some kind of maintenance pill we could take!

guestusername · 11/04/2024 08:32

I’ve been daily weighing and today there was a very slight gain 😒 official weigh tomorrow though and I know what I did wrong yesterday - I had pasta for dinner which I can still feel sitting heavily. I didn’t drink enough and although I didn’t act on it, I could hear a bit of food noise going on around me. Hoping for a better day today and I’m off to the gym again later 🙂

guestusername · 11/04/2024 08:38

I can’t edit my post but also wanted to say that I don’t have sulphur burps anymore!

ObsidianTree · 11/04/2024 08:18

Hopefully you'll feel better soon @MelissaLouRocks . Just stay hydrated if you can't eat while ill

I'm trying to, thanks @ObsidianTree 💐

ObsidianTree · 11/04/2024 08:50

Lol I had that book @lurkylurk 🤣

It's funny as we're all here because we've tried EVERYTHING to lose weight!

I'm hoping this is the magic pill for us for life!

NCfor24 · 11/04/2024 08:51

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin that's a lovely graph! Well done on your loss.
I'm now weighing daily and i think it can be good to see the fluctuations and the overall trend.
I need to change my scales to lb too...I keep having to use my calculator to put it in lbs to enter in to my tracker!

Investinmyself · 11/04/2024 08:52

Interesting chart @CiderJabs.
Difference mj has made is I’ve never dropped below a 5. Whereas before I’d often be a hangry 3 on cc.
Really noticed it on my office days. I used to try and do all the correct things and drink water and eat lots of protein, but I was was often in hangry stage late afternoon or on way home from work. Totally fine on mj.

NCfor24 · 11/04/2024 08:54

@lurkylurk I also have that book.... £1 from a charity shop and never read it, listened to cd once! 😂
I did buy some hypnotherapy stuff on binge eating from Clear Minds last year and it's actually really good. I'm so wiped by the time I get into bed though that I don't even listen or when I do I instantly fall asleep.
I got the kids a package for stress, exam worries, healthy eating etc too and my daughter really benefits. I think there is a place for it for some people.
Paul McKenna irritates me though, so I think I'll pass that book/cd on!

I think I remember at the start this drug was being sold as something you take long term/for life. So it's a shame pharmacies won't prescribe long term at the moment.

I assume in America they will prescribe it as there are loads of people on tiktok looking pretty slim that still take it to maintain and even at the top doses.

This drug has made dieting easy. I think the will power needed to not eat when off the drug will be a big shock for everyone coming off of it! I don't know how strong I am to refrain from eating more calories than I am allowed. It's scary thinking about coming off it! Hope I'm a long way off it yet!

Also I noticed on a Facebook group someone said MedExpress have said they will ask for full body shots when people want to go up to 7.5mg. I wonder if they are going to be super strict and check how much people have lose each month and decide if people are doing well enough on 5mg so won't let them go up to 7.5mg.

If they refuse to sell me 7.5mg I'll go back to Asda I think! They are starting to seem a bit much. Even if they are cheap.

@NCfor24

He irritates me too but the book was actually quite good and did the trick at the time!

lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 09:07

@ObsidianTree
Weirdly it may actually have to do with some of the prescribing principles that mean that they are supposed to monitor your progress and not keep prescribing it if you HAVEN'T lost at least 5% of your body weight after a certain amount of time, on the basis that it's not working for you.

Rainbowl · 11/04/2024 09:08

Morning all!

Hope you’re ok @FlappyFish and thank you for being honest and sharing how you feel. We’ve all been there at some time or another. You’ve got this 💐

Some great losses this week especially @Keepthepeace82 with a great 4th week loss. What food plan did you follow?

I’m injecting third dose tonight so weighing in this morning.

SW: 16st 11.2lb
Week One loss: 7.4lb
Week Two loss: 3.2lb
CW: 16st 0.6lb

Total loss: 10.6lb

Really pleased with that. Still eager to see the next stone bracket though! It waved at me on the scales this morning but sadly, the number settled here instead. Hopefully not too much longer to wait!

Satisfying graph attached 🙂

lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 09:09

@ObsidianTree

On their website Medexpress say this:

"The clinical team will review your weight with every order to ensure this product is working for you. This way we can ensure the dose which you peak at is optimal for you. At this peak, for us to continue prescribing Mounjaro® to you, you’ll need to have lost around 5% of your initial body weight after a period of time."

So, it might just be to do with that.

MarilynBoo · 11/04/2024 09:10

Hello! I'm a newbie. I came across this thread and was so inspired that I took the plunge and ordered Mounjaro. I ordered from Med Express and took my first 2.5 dose last night.

I'm a binge eater who gets a dopamine hit from eating 'naughty' food. This began in childhood due to trauma and has continued into adulthood. I'm obese and have reached the point where I feel I can no longer carry on like this. Enough is enough. Something has to change. I have to change.

I have been reading past threads and I think you're all so lovely and supportive of each other. Hope it's okay if I join you?

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 11/04/2024 09:11

Re: wegovy Vs mounjaro.
I have been trying to find out as much as possible about the differences - apparently with mounjaro, there is much less glp1 in it than in wegovy/ozempic. It's the glp1 that slows the food digestion and makes you feel fuller, and with this comes the more difficult side effects.
As mounjaro has GIP with a lower dose of glp1, it helps glp1 work more efficiently with less of it, meaning less side effects. Also GIP works on the brain to reduce food noise/cravings etc. Wegovy has no GIP.

That's the jist of what I understand anyway. (Not to mention the effects both drugs have on blood sugar etc)

BlackFriYay · 11/04/2024 09:14

I can see that The Family Chemist are in the same price range as MedExpress, is there a reason not many people here are using them? I'm just weighing up my options as MedExpress isn't seemingly as appealing at the minute after I've heard about them being pedantic about prescriptions and withholding PP's money.

ObsidianTree · 11/04/2024 09:16

Thanks @lurkylurk. Yeah it's probably that!

I will stop over thinking it 🤣

I think because MedExpress often have voucher codes that reduce the price even more so a lot of us go with them for that reason.
