Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Yeah it's mad they want to give you a credit note for something they won't let you get! shame they are being ott!

I was thinking of going to med express, what exactly was the issue. Sorry if I am being thick, but what is the two day limit?

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 19:41

Just had a look at Bolt and noticed their 2.5mg was now £125! I guess they have a lot of 2.5mg stock they need to get rid of!

My Bolt 2.5mg doesn't have a long date on it, they may have some waste to dispose of!

NCfor24 · 10/04/2024 20:24

Femeia · 10/04/2024 19:54

I haven't actually tried Bolt yet...so let's see, but I am so put off Medexpress, particularly as they still have my money!

Definitely out of order only offering a credit note!

I'm also wanting to know this as I intend to go with them next..

CiderJabs · 10/04/2024 20:32

They asked for evidence of having a prescription issued in the last 6 weeks and hers was 6 weeks and 2 days. So they rejected her request and have so far kept her money 🤬

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 20:33

NCfor24 · 10/04/2024 20:22

My Bolt 2.5mg doesn't have a long date on it, they may have some waste to dispose of!

I think most 2.5mg expired end of May, from what I've seen. So they need to sell them by end of April otherwise they might have to chuck them! Surprised more suppliers aren't reducing their price of their 2.5mg!

I emailed Asda a while back asking if they could offer a 2.5mg for cheap so I can take 7.5mg. they said no, and the med doses can't be mixed like that!

OP posts:
ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 20:36

So basically, if you want a dose higher than 2.5mg, they want to know when you started 2.5mg, when you started 5mg etc, then they determined that there was too much of a gap after her 5mg, so therefore she has to start again on 2.5mg according to medExpress.

Obviously they don't know that we are using the extra doses in the pens so makes the gap longer than should be!

We should probably all make sure to always order our pens a lot in advance so they don't assume we have left a big gap etc!

Wtf, that's terrible.

Looks like they won't accept me then.

My 2.5mg and 5mg (which I start in a week and a half as im doing the bonus dose) were both perscribed together, by bolt, as the bundle deal they have to get both together.

They want me to get to the end of my 5mg before ordering from them (I already made contact and asked) by which point it'll be over 6 weeks :S

Choux · 10/04/2024 20:44

@BlackFriYay I got the Bolt bundle too. I would hope that any other prescriber would realise that two pens prescribed together 6 weeks ago was different to one pen prescribed 6 weeks ago. But maybe not.

In any case Bolt say they will have 7.5mg in stock by the 22nd so assuming no sudden side effects I am going to give that a whirl.

Just had a look at Bolt and noticed their 2.5mg was now £125! I guess they have a lot of 2.5mg stock they need to get rid of!

It could be that or it could be they just want to get new customers in as people are then likely to stay with them. Particularly as some of us are finding it difficult to switch prescribers or are nervous we won't have a BMI high enough.

@ObsidianTree
They probably have a bunch with the end of May expiry, pharmacy2u say on their Mounjaro page that their 2.5mg pens are expiry end May and their 5mg ones are expiry end June so they'll be needing to get theirs sold too!

The funny thing is that their starter pack of a 2.5mg and a 5mg now costs more than the individual pens combined.

Or else maybe they decided to sell the low dose at a lower price as people then tend to stick to the same supplier if the rest of their prices are reasonable.

You'd think so wouldn't you! I'm on the fence now myself as I can't afford for that amount of money to be withheld from me if they decide to faff about.

Let us know how you get on. I may well end up doing the same with the 7.5.

I was initially hoping to stay on 5 for a few months as I've had a lot of success with 2.5 already.

Soukmyfalafel · 10/04/2024 20:57

Thank you for explaining. I'm nervous now about going to Med Ex. I know the saving could be decent, but I might stick with Asda for less hassle. The 5mg pen I just started was ordered end of March. I'm hoping if I need 7mg I can order in the next couple of weeks.

Thebaldprimadonna · 10/04/2024 21:42

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 08:42

I'll look out for them too! Suppose we can just report new ones.

I guess I assumed people putting Voy codes were just starting and trying to get their discount!

Should I take Voy off the list of suppliers for next thread do you think?

Yes, tell them they can go back on when they pay people enough to write decent fake posts. I am available 😁

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 10/04/2024 21:47

What are all of your longer term plans? Mine is to get to a BMI of about 24/24.5 (on the basis I have never been lower than that as an adult) and then try coming off this. However, I know there is talk about this being a medication for life. If I do come off it, can't control my weight by myself and so begin to re-gain, does anyone know if I'd be able to start getting it again with a BMI of perhaps 25.5/26 or would I need to get back up to 30?
This is purely a hypothetical question at the moment!

Mortigua · 10/04/2024 22:05

Checking in as haven’t been on this thread yet . That’s worrying about Med ex especially as they sent my prescription late (took a week from the date I ordered due to the bank holiday ) I took my second 5m today. They say my earliest order date for the next order is next Tuesday making that 3 weeks from my order date but 2 from my delivery date . I need to check with them what the latest order date they will accept is!

Feeling the effects on 5m. A bit anxious and hyped up as if I’ve had a lot of caffeine but it’s not too bad , bit of difficulty with paranoia which I do struggle with but not sure if it’s even related to the Mounjaro could be nothing to do with it.

Happy birthday @dmott!

I am currently fuming at Medexpress. They turned down my request for a second 5mg pen as my previous 5mg prescription was 2 days over the limit, as I had ordered it early.
I would have considered sending in more details but they completely infuriated me by saying they were not returning my money and instead would give me a credit against my next purchase. Errr no way. So I have asked for my money to be refunded as I don't intend to order either them (as I can see Bolt will be stocking 7.5mg before my 5mg runs out). Grrrrrr AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

On the plus side two people came up to me separately in work to say they had noticed my weight loss Grin

What do you mean by over the limit?

Femeia · 10/04/2024 22:49

@montysma1 they say your prescription has to be less than 6 weeks old. Mine was 6 weeks and 2 days old because I ordered my 5mg not long after my 2.5mg and waited to see if the 7.5mg would be in stock, therefore not ordering immediately.
I've now ordered the 7.5mg with Bolt - awaiting approval

dmott · 10/04/2024 22:52

@Yope
I would have easily eaten 1000+ more calories before.

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 23:48

I had my first uh-oh moment today at not being able to eat at dinner and I haven't told my husband. If it keeps happening I will have to come clean! I have told my adult daughter but she's away at uni.

I made spag bol for dinner and a salad, served myself a small to moderate portion and was happy to eat, smelt and tasted good. I ate some salad, a few bites of bolognese and a bit of pasta and realised I was full and if I ate more would end up feeling ill. I ate some more salad (as I feel I've been missing out on enough veg and I love it) but then had to say I was full.

My husband was happy he could take the rest of mine to work tomorrow for his lunch but if it keeps happening he will notice! I hadn't even eaten much during the day, a ryvita with gouda and a bit of apple for breakfast and half a ham and spinach sandwich for a late lunch.

Seems to be taking effect more since second dose so will have to rework things to get in more protein and veg before I fill up! Nice problem to solve.

I’ve been on the fence for weeks but after this price I took the plunge. Guess I’ll be joining you all in the Mounjaro journey :)

I spoke with Bolt using the chat feature regarding the expiry dates and apparently all current stock in the UK has the same expiry which is at the end of May. Not a problem for me since mine should arrive on Friday and I intend on starting over the weekend.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 11/04/2024 02:17

@lurkylurk Are you me? I could have written the same thing! The other night at were having dinner and I suddenly got the ick with the food and couldn't eat another bite after eating very little and he seemed really surprised, especially because I said how nice the food was!
Before I started MJ a couple of weeks ago, I had really reduced my portion sizes and upped my protein quite a bit myself. However despite eating way less than I used to, I've been losing and gaining the same 3lbs for the two months or so prior to starting MJ. So DH is used to me eating less, but MJ brings it to a whole new level! I felt like he was suspicious!

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa My plan is to get to a healthy BMI, which will prob take around a year or a bit longer. By then, I'm hoping pharmacies will prescribe maintenance doses, or else I can find myself a private GP to prescribe a maintenance dose for me. Then I plan to taper off the MJ, maybe take a lower dose every 2 weeks or so like I see people in the US do. I have completely changed my food and exercise lifestyle since starting MJ - more protein, salad and veg and less UHP foods and I'm strength training now, so this lifestyle change will hopefully help sustain the weight loss.
