Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@NNSingersdon't worry about sharing your code. It was more about people that post their Voy codes on all threads etc.

Obviously we can stay here too, but in Facebook it is nice to create posts to ask specific questions and see previous answers without having to read through the threads etc!

@ObsidianTree
Yes, it's a bit easier to find replies and so on! Have requested.

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 14:35

Lol we are nearly 3/4 way through this thread already! 🤣

@Letsgoogogo

I have the same problem where in the past if I manage to lose a bit I think it's time for a celebration of the edible or quaffable variety!

Luckily I don't find that's the case on Mounjaro, partially why it helps. Even if I have something I would consider a treat I only want a little bit and greasy food doesn't make me feel good on it so that handles that.

MotivatedToWin · 10/04/2024 14:43

Hi all. Hoping to join this chat. I’m on Mounjaro and have taken my first 5mg dose yesterday after going through the 2.5 doses and using my extra dose in the 4th week (so effectively second week at 5mg)

SW 15 stone 3 pound
CW 14 stone 1 pound

I am 5 ft 2 so I am small. My current BMI is 36 down from 38.6 so still a huge way to go but feeling really positive.

I order through Asda who have been great to be fair but may change for my next pen due to cost.

I have been reading the threads for weeks now and picked up some great tips from you all so thank you (especially about the intake of more protein, vitamins and dealing with constipation).

I agree about the Facebook groups some people are really toxic on there. This group is by far the most positive with excellent advice and great motivational encouragement!

Saltandvinegarsquares30 · 10/04/2024 14:50

Good afternoon,

I received Mounjaro 2.5mg today. I didn't realise there was a group on Mumsnet. I had a gastric sleeve 9 years ago and had a few stones of regain over COVID lockdowns. I started on ozempic in 2021 and lost what I'd gained in a few months. Hardly anyone had heard of it back then and little support.

I do alot of exercise but I'd like to lose a further 2 stone to help (would still not be skinny) with my joints as I get older and for upping my running speed. I love that the food noise disappears with ozempic. I've been advised to try Mounjaro so giving that a go. Some great tips in these threads, hoping it works for me and it's sustainable to keep off once I come off!!!

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 14:54

Welcome @MotivatedToWin and @Saltandvinegarsquares30 :)

Good luck with your journey

I have my second jab tomorrow. But I am unbelievably hungry today. I could eat a horse. I am resisting the need to but my god it's hard.

I was the same last week, just before my 2nd jab. This week is slightly better
😀
I'm using these days as a sort of rehearsal for life after mounjaro - I know that eating x for breakfast, y for lunch and z for dinner works for me on 'good' days, therefore it's what I'm aiming for on the just-before-jab days.
I'm hoping that this will become my new normal in time.
I'm also trying to remember that quite often I'm not hungry, I'm thirsty so will try a drink when I feel hungry. (and yes, I know that's always been the advice, but I didn't seem to listen to it before mj!)

@AgathaMystery what a great feeling that must have been. Well done!

Saltandvinegarsquares30 · 10/04/2024 15:47

Oh I was going to ask. One of the more unpleasant side effects I used to get with ozempic was constipation. I'm assuming I'll be same with mounjaro. Any recommendations if a decent laxative I can take each day please or even every second day?
Thanks

oaode · 10/04/2024 15:54

Dear all
I got this from MedExpress about the availability of the 7.5mg dose
We have confirmed the 7.5mg dose will be available to order after the 12th April.

Rainbowl · 10/04/2024 15:56

Sorry, I feel like by reporting that user that I’ve made people feel bad for sharing Voy codes/using Voy which wasn’t my intention at all!

Personally I think if you’re joining in the general conversation and clearly a genuine part of this wonderful community then it’s absolutely fair enough to share your code.

By comparison, the poster I reported was clearly only advertising as they didn’t post anything else, ever. Just a “hey, I’ve started taking mounjaro and I’m 11lbs down with no side effects. Here’s my code for 50% off!”

Hope that explains why I reported that one poster in particular. I would never report someone who was clearly genuine and I’m sure MN wouldn’t act either if someone did. Hope that makes sense? If we can keep these types of posters away then hopefully some of the genuine posters here will see the benefits of their codes being used rather than an imposter’s! ☺️

Yes constipation is a side effect unfortunately.

I take magnesium citrate and psylum husks.

Others have good results with aloe vera tablets

So weird as I got a message from them yesterday saying that their stock levels are low and won't be able to say when the stock will go up!

Good god, the diarrhea

Pigriver · 10/04/2024 16:18

For the constipation I add a teaspoon of flax and chia into my daily protein shake.

For the hungry days as it wears off I make sure I pack extra healthy food so I'm not tempted. It coincides with my 2 afternoons in the office alone so there is the temptation to snack. I take fruit, home made protein balls and protein yoghurt. I also see it as being able to fill up on good stuff to nourish my body when on other days I may be missing out on some nutrients.

Pigriver · 10/04/2024 16:19

@Rainbowl don't worry, we knew what you meant.
Yes by all means share a code but join in the chat and contribute.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the sulphur burps?

@zaffa yes there seem to be some really mean people on there! I've seen lots of bullying etc! Glad we have this group!

Maybe we should create our own private Facebook group!

I would be up for joining! I’ve joined mumsnet baby groups in the past that have been incredibly supportive.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the sulphur burps?

Omeprazole (40mg) helped mine! But I do have a hiatus hernia so I can take that amount! They're vile aren't they 🙈
