Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I have my second jab tomorrow. But I am unbelievably hungry today. I could eat a horse. I am resisting the need to but my god it's hard.

You can take it up to 3 days early.
I was struggling last week and brought it forward from Friday lunchtime to Thursday evening.
If you think you can manage then go for it but don't worry if you need to flex it a bit to make it work for you.
I'm going to try and hold out for Friday this week just because I'm going up to 5mg and would rather risk side effects over the weekend...will see how I go though, no firm decision is made!

R4ch402 · 10/04/2024 13:46

Thanks @ObsidianTree I have requested :)

Obviously we can stay here too, but in Facebook it is nice to create posts to ask specific questions and see previous answers without having to read through the threads etc!

Hi everyone,

Just been catching up. I took my second dose of 2.5 last night and also feel a little achey but that's all. I haven't managed to eat anything other than a small pot of Greek yoghurt today. I will make something protein heavy shortly.

I just wanted to say that I shared my Voy code on here but didn't mean to cause any problem at all. I am totally genuine and just thought if it could help someone else out, and me at the same time then all good. I've now been put off of Voy so will try to order my 5mg from Medexpress in a week or so.

I am also triggered by scales, I felt so good all last week and genuinely felt full of energy and my clothes felt looser. I got on the scales yesterday for my first week weigh in and have lost 1lb. I know it's a loss but my diet has halved in calories and I'm so much more active. I was dreading getting on the scales as I knew that I would feel rubbish if it was a small loss, which I do. Anyway, onwards and upwards and fingers crossed for a bigger loss next week. To be fair I haven't really been to the loo properly for about 5 days so that doesn't help 🫢.

@ObsidianTree thank you so much for being so organised and setting up the Facebook page, I have requested to join.

I was the same last week the day before my jab was due second jab at 2.5mg I was starving. I really struggled to eat a sensible amount. Definitely could tell it had worn off.

Yes I do find this from other previous diets I've done. Reward myself with a binge if I have a better loss than expects.... Self sabotage as the scales aren't moving!

But this diet feels different. As even if you feel upset because you haven't lost, or happy because you've had a great weekly loss, you can't celebrate with a binge! Because you can't physically eat it, and don't feel like it anyway 🤣.

Sometimes the second week is a bigger boost - I've found that in the past, especially if I've been eating rubbish the week before starting - like the first week is still showing the effects of the rubbish I wolfed down before I started.
Good luck and welcome, I keep reminding myself that it has taken years and years to get here - it won't take weeks or months to lose it all (and I have so much to lose, so it's doubly true for me 😩)

I've requested to join too.

@Letsgoogogo Yeah scales trigger me too. After reading the discussion on here about it, I've decided to try and weigh in each day to desensitise myself to them! Initially, it was tough, but a few days in, I can see that I'm up and down like a yo-yo, however the trend is still down when I plot it into the weighing app that others on here were talking about (monitoryourweight) so it's made me feel better.

zaffa · 10/04/2024 14:12

I've been laid up in bed for two days with the most horrendous sore throat and fever - like knives being dragged down my throat.i suspect DD4 of passing on whatever she had last week, but it has been miserable and to make it worse, I resorted to some cocodemol for my throat and fever and so constipation was a million times worse. I've eaten half a bag of soft prunes and copious amounts of high fibre bran - I don't know what it will do to the scales but at least I managed a reasonable trip to the loo this morning 😩

Thank you!

I'd say:
Don't eat samosas on MJ - fatty food is not your friend😫
Keep the faith - even the small losses add up nicely

StrawberryTartIet · 10/04/2024 14:17

I desensitised to scales when I first did Fast800 and weighed everyday and gained faith that a little gain always dropped off usually with a whoosh - its worth researching the many reasons a woman's weight can go up and down but overall there will still be fat loss .

As time has gone on I'd hit a weight I was happier at and blow the whole thing.

I've recorded my Day 1 weight, I'm quite tempted to not weigh for as long as I can... I've never done that before on a WL journey but I do find it exciting seeing the numbers go down! Maybe once I've lost a bit as my SW was depressing after having a 'sod it' few weeks in the lead up to buying my injections.

Moanranger · 10/04/2024 14:18

Considering the cost of this - generally not much change from £200 a month, which is a lot!
However, I am sure my food bills will be down. I have basically cut out all the snack food (bars, crisps, etc) & also really cut down on booze. My portions are smaller. I do a monthly spend analysis, and I suspect the savings could be £50 or more on food, not to mention alcohol, so there’s that.
Re suppliers, I ordered before I joined the thread from Health Express. I used them previously when I tried Saxenda & then Ozempic. They are sort of medium priced. I am going to stick with them because they will have all my history. Access to support & doctors pretty good. No disrespect to all you clever money savers, but I am going to stay with what I know. Hope this is the right decision(eg, they don’t run out at a crucial moment!)

Hi, what sort of cold storage packaging does Medexpress use? Royal Mail has failed to deliver my parcel for two days (they attempted two hours earlier than the proposed window so no one was home despite my instructions for a safe place). Worried day 3 is going to be too late for safety of the injection.

There isn’t a customer care number for Medexpress and the form has an SLA of 72 hours.

It's wool packaging wrapped around 2 ice packs and the medication is in between the two protected by cardboard. Pens are ok for 30 days out of the fridge so if you're going to be using it straight away it'll be fine as your fourth dose would be in 3 weeks time.

When I get the notification that it's dispatched I go on Royal Mail and have it sent to my local post office instead to get around the risk of not being in, if you are able to go there during Post Office hours that could work for you in future?

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 10/04/2024 14:25

Thanks for setting up a FB group @ObsidianTree .

StrawberryTartIet · 10/04/2024 14:25

Out of curiosity, how does Ozempic and Wegovy compare price wise to MJ? I chose MJ because IIRC it isn't used so much for diabetes in the UK and so I don't feel bad for buying it privately - now I can't find anything that confirms that. But from what I have red since, it seems to be rhe New and Improved WL drug.

It's exciting to me to think how safe and effective these drugs could be for the next generation. I hope my daughter doesn't feel she needs WL injections but if she ever feels like I have, it's good to know she won't have to have the same battles.

AgathaMystery · 10/04/2024 14:26

So - it might seem like a marginal gain (or loss, really) but I just went into John Lewis as I needed a new belt - was replacing like-for-like... asked for a large, the lady looked at me & said 'are you sure you need a large?' I said yes, that's what i'm wearing now. She handed me a medium & IT FITS ME.

This hasn't happened since about 2011 for a few brief weeks. I am amazed.

RM delayed my delivery. MedExpress told me injections are fine for 6 weeks once they reach room temperature. I think refridgeration is only an issue if you want to save the pen for a while before using, if using as soon as delivered you are well covered.
