Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin
If I have zero appetite in the morning I usually just skip it, most of southern Europe does that and doesn't seem to do them much harm! I like Greek yogurt and wish I could eat it for breakfast but it makes me nauseous and heartburny if I do.

Then I just make sure I have a nutritious lunch.

@lurkylurk
I have to have breakfast because my first break at work is at 1.30pm, and sometimes I'm too busy to even have lunch (esp coming up to exam season) so it will be 3.30 or dinner time before I'll get a chance to eat. I teach a practical subject too so I'm on my feet all day. I really only have 2 meals though. If I have breakfast and lunch, I can't eat dinner so will have a snack at most, or I'll skip lunch and have dinner.

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 10:47

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin
I get it, with Mounjaro I sometimes go to 2pm before I'm hungry but other mornings I need to eat and couldn't risk not doing so if there would not be an opportunity until the afternoon.

What about a shake? Someone on here recommended the Purition ones and I had a look and was thinking about getting them as they're whole food, non-UPF, good bit of protein and low sugar.

MelissaLouRocks · 10/04/2024 11:05

I use the Purition ones @lurkylurk and @JanetSnakeholeMacklin , they're great. Very tasty, the flavoured ones are a very fine chop rather than a powder so have some texture to them. Also nothing artificial in them.

MelissaLouRocks · 10/04/2024 11:08

@Pigriver I understand totally what you mean by the Facebook groups. I've tried over there, but it's literally like trying to speak to educationally challenged four year olds! I'm too old to deal with that crap these days!

zaffa · 10/04/2024 11:31

Pigriver · 10/04/2024 10:25

Just catching up. I think the endless Voy posters at just trying to get their codes used so their next dose is cheaper. It looks like they are doing the rounds on all of the threads and probably FB/Reddit too. Maybe just a line about not posting but people can ask for them?!
I think Voy and Juniper sell themselves as a 'lifestyle change with coaching and support' which command a higher price. In reality they Juniper have a fancy app and empty promises. I have just left the FB community any being increasingly frustrated by clueless people asking the same thing everyday. The straw that broke the camels back was being told I was 'ridiculous and over reacting' when I suggest not to use the same needle twice then got laughed at 🙄

For those asking about side effects on moving up to 5mg, mine were minimal on 2.5mg and exactly the same on 5mg. I did worry a bit but it has been fine.
I'm off work for Easter and I actually can't wait to get back to be more in a routine 🙈 I go away in just over 2 weeks so I'd like to go shopping for something new but want to wait a bit longer.

I was on a fb group earlier and there was an active conversation about who would prescribe without photos and also lots of hints on how to fake weight on the scales. I really didn't like that - anyone who qualifies should absolutely use it - even at the lower end of the BMI if they are within criteria - if I had this ten years ago I wouldn't be where I am today! But trying to get round it is dangerous. There are serious side effects that someone could suffer and it's not licensed to be used that way.

I wasn’t going to write this post, but I think it’s important for the psychological side.

I have posted about period weight gain and this means I am gaining weight each day.

I have gained another pound this morning.

I have actually cried about this.

I am eating the same thing daily. The same thing I have lost nearly two stone on. Last night I ate a little pot of Hotel Chocolat choc buttons. So yay. Guess that means I gain a pound.

I know it’s probably period. This isn’t theoretically possibly. But it’s breaking me. Why the hell do I keep gaining 5 days into period?

I knew I was messed up with eating but how can I take MJ, have no appetite, eat the same thing and be gaining?

Rant over. I want to binge and eat my feelings, but I can’t do that on MJ I’d be sick.

Sorry all. I had to get it out.

It will be fluid not fat gain. Some of us just gain big at time of month, if eat out etc.
Trust the process. If you are in deficit you will lose. So post period you will see the loss.
If daily weigh isn’t working for you maybe go to weekly?

This is a bit left field, but does anyone have any recommendations for high protein foods particularly from Morrison's, especially snacky things? I'm struggling a bit with meals at the moment.

I'm disabled and don't manage to get out very often, but am having a better day so thought I'd go and raid their fish bar!

I'm pescetarian btw, thank you. 🤗

The lindhals kvarg pots are nice (flavoured quark) the lemon are 18g protein. Morrisons carry full range of flavours. In the yoghurt section.

MelissaLouRocks · 10/04/2024 11:45

Thank you @Investinmyself

I saw that too! I reported the post! If you don't want to show pics you are obviously trying to hide your weight!

@VoyOySaveloy hope you feel better soon. Thanks for sharing I do think it’s helpful that people get balanced view and it’s not for everyone.

I started 13/3 and have moved up to 5mg last night.
On 2.5 mg I’ve lost 9lb. My bmi was just over 30 now 28.7.
It’s made such a positive difference to me. I’d been calorie counting for 6 months doing all the right things and barely lost anything.
I’m averaging 1250 cals a day and really prioritising protein, water and steps.

I injected thigh last night to try and minimise any reaction to going up to 5mg. Slept really well and other than slightly dry mouth feel good.

I’m with pharmacy2u and will stay with them hopefully to a healthy bmi. Ideally I’d like to get to bmi 23 or 24.

Investinmyself · 10/04/2024 12:07

I’ve really enjoyed this thread and the predecessors for its emphasis on health, long term changes and trying to do in healthy way eg protein ideas and recipes. The none scale goals like rings, baths and generally supportive atmosphere.
It’s medication with side effects and not for a quick fix to be bikini ready.

zaffa · 10/04/2024 12:34

@ObsidianTree
"I saw that too! I reported the post! If you don't want to show pics you are obviously trying to hide your weight!" I reported it too - it was definitely something dodgy.
Our group is so so much nicer than the ones I've seen on fb, there's been a lot of really horrid comments I've seen from people complaining about it being prescribed for BMI under 35 or saying that it's being stolen from diabetics. I don't really get a lot from them, except to see some people's success stories.

guestusername · 10/04/2024 12:35

When I got back from the gym last night, I felt great. Better than I have for a little while. I slept really well too. My body is punishing me today with rotten burps, sore skin again and I’m absolutely frozen! The burps are the worst though. It makes me want to be a little bit sick every time it happens and it’s happening A LOT! Please tell me that this goes away quickly! The thought that the burps are being caused by food literally fermenting in my stomach is pretty gross 🤢

Just found this thread. I am so fed up I am a BMI of 50 :( I have decided to give this a go as an alternative to surgery which I was otherwise considering. Well done and good luck to everyone already having successes.

Welcome. I have been reading some posts on reddit from people who were saving up for bariatric surgery, have gone on MJ and have decided to stick with it as they've had so much success. All the best with your journey.

First dose of 2.5mg yesterday, heart palpitations last night but I think it was anxiety as I wound myself up of having an anaphylaxis reaction (I have never had one before either!!). Don't feel any different, checked the one this morning that I definitely got a dose and I did. I like the idea of the food noise going but I don't think I have a lot of that anyway, I guess I will find out!

I can usually fast and eat very light until 3pm/4pm when I will either snack unhealthily or hold out for a big dinner possibly followed by snacks so how the afternoons onwards go for me will be where I notice the difference.

I have done Fast 800/keto and fasting successfully in the past and did very well on it the first time to the point mist of my meals and cooking is keto now, but find as soon as I have a busy weekend/life event after losing a stone and feeling better it all goes to pot (fish and chips at the seaside, ice creams, sweets, afternoon teas etc which then triggers more takeaways and junk as I've messed up) so I'm hopeful this will help carry me through those moments and keep my weight loss going without being so tempted to binge.

Sick of yoyo-ing now. I'm quite good at giving myself a ceiling weight and maintaining below but I look forward to that being 10 stone not 15!

Ha ha I think we must be the same person. I came to write this word for word!!! I was thinking the same about an allergic reaction

Hello and welcome! Try and take some time to read the other Mounjaro threads too if you can as it will give you more information about what to expect. We are a pretty good bunch here, there are no silly questions and you’ll not get lynched!

Hi, what sort of cold storage packaging does Medexpress use? Royal Mail has failed to deliver my parcel for two days (they attempted two hours earlier than the proposed window so no one was home despite my instructions for a safe place). Worried day 3 is going to be too late for safety of the injection.

There isn’t a customer care number for Medexpress and the form has an SLA of 72 hours.

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 13:17

@zaffa yes there seem to be some really mean people on there! I've seen lots of bullying etc! Glad we have this group!

Maybe we should create our own private Facebook group!

It comes with 2 icepack things. Maybe wool but I can't remember if there is definitely wool too!

Mine came in a massive box! Inside there was a big pad of wool type stuff and a couple of plastic wrapped ice packs inside, wrapped around the box. Pretty sure it would have been fine for another 24 hours. I’m sure I have read somewhere about delivery issues and it being put in the fridge when you do get it

I have my second jab tomorrow. But I am unbelievably hungry today. I could eat a horse. I am resisting the need to but my god it's hard.
