Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I'll join in on the ring fitting goal! I am currently wearing my rings that I can't get off! I want to still wear them, but worried about ever having to have to take them off! So want so slim down enough to be able to take them off and fit them back on!

@ObsidianTree
I'm the same, I have my wedding ring on but can't get it off anymore. My daughter was looking at it a couple of weeks ago and said it looked painful (it's not at all) as the flesh under it is slimmer than the flesh around it as it's sort of grown around it. I would really like to be able to get it off and back on again easily.

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 00:40

It's my 25th wedding anniversary at the start of June, 8 weeks away so I think that's a good goal for then!

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/04/2024 00:45

ObsidianTree · 09/04/2024 13:15

Can you let us know if any of those work @GrimDamnFanjo ?

I think I'll start keeping a list of working codes

If anyone else has MedExpress codes please add :)

Yay! consult- bunny worked!
I've taken the plunge and ordered, thanks so much.

spamm · 10/04/2024 01:12

@ObsidianTree - sounds like the bath was wonderful. I love that so many of us have non-food rewards that we are looking forward to! I have not bought any new clothes yet, but when I have lost 10 more pounds, I will treat myself to a new pair of jeans!

Away from home last week was tough and while I enjoyed the food, it was so different to what I have been eating since starting Mounjaro. Too much cheese and pork, pretty standard in the French mountains. And I really experienced some dramatic side effects - diarrhea, a very noisy stomach and the infamous sulphur burps. Now that I am back to my own diet, my stomach seems to be starting to settle again. So far today, no dramatic running to the loo. Fingers crossed!

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 01:12

RipePeach · 09/04/2024 20:53

Thank you @MelissaLouRocks. The posts on here are really inspiring and I'm hoping that this will help end the cycle of dieting and losing weight and then putting it back on. I'm so sick of thinking about food and weight all the time!
I had an email from Medexpress asking for a full length photo and photo ID before they can process my order. Is this usual? I've sent both but even the process of taking a full length photo was horrible. I prefer to be in denial about how much weight I've put on 😥

@RipePeach

Yes, that is usual and I did not like taking the photo either. The funny thing is that I have full-width of the room mirrored wardrobes in my bedroom yet somehow still avoid looking in them!

I just decided to suck it up, put on some fairly tight clothes so they can see what they need to see and not take it personally, after all, it will be different soon.

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 01:20

stomachamelon · 09/04/2024 23:07

@lurkylurk put mine in Friday and have had acknowledgment of pictures/ weight info and info on 2,5mg already being used but not been processed.

What sort of gap did you leave between pens? Will it go against me that I have ordered straight away?

I was a little cheeky as I didn't use my first dose until a week after I received it but didn't point that out so it would look like my 4th dose is coming up when it's actually my third. However, I suspect it it's not that and may be just random as to which prescriber your application is assigned to and how busy they are.

CiderJabs · 10/04/2024 06:59

@Rainbowl I've reported loads as well. This is winding me up 🤬

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 07:03

Femeia · 09/04/2024 23:23

A word of warning about ordering early - I decided to switch to Medexpress as I had a code. I've uploaded all my info and was asked for a prescription dated within 6 weeks, otherwise I have to go back to 2.5mg. Because I ordered my 5mg early and then was waiting till the last minute to see if the 7.5mg came into stock, my prescription is 6 weeks and 2 days old..... now waiting to see if I get refused Angry

I'm pretty sure they message asking when you started, how much is left in your pen etc. So you can explain why you waiting etc. But also, you can tell a white lie and say that you started later than you did, as they wouldn't know exactly when you started etc.

Hopefully they approve ok!

Yes mine is similar! Where the ring sits it's slim enough, but my fingers have got chubby so impossible to take off! Fingers crossed it's possible one day for us!

I don't think so. If it's with the delivery company. Means it will be sitting in the cold bag until Friday. So would definitely be defrosted by then. It might be ok if you plan to use it straight away and use within the 30 days it can be out the fridge, but best to check with the supplier

I wasn’t going to write this post, but I think it’s important for the psychological side.

I have posted about period weight gain and this means I am gaining weight each day.

I have gained another pound this morning.

I have actually cried about this.

I am eating the same thing daily. The same thing I have lost nearly two stone on. Last night I ate a little pot of Hotel Chocolat choc buttons. So yay. Guess that means I gain a pound.

I know it’s probably period. This isn’t theoretically possibly. But it’s breaking me. Why the hell do I keep gaining 5 days into period?

I knew I was messed up with eating but how can I take MJ, have no appetite, eat the same thing and be gaining?

Rant over. I want to binge and eat my feelings, but I can’t do that on MJ I’d be sick.

Sorry all. I had to get it out.

Really obvious advert for Voy in the guise of a Mumsnet member. I will never use them as a result. The least they can do is do it well.

RagzRebooted · 10/04/2024 07:50

@FlappyFish fluid retention and inflammation. Think how lovely the whoosh will be when it all goes. I just had mine, bounced around up and down for a few days, went up 2lbs then dropped 3lbs a few days later.

RagzRebooted · 10/04/2024 07:51

@Samsam23 it will be fine, it's allowed to be out of the fridge for 30 days (cumulatively, so can take it in and out) as long as it doesn't go over 30 degrees Celsius it will be fine. Put it in the fridge when you get it.

Thebaldprimadonna · 10/04/2024 07:54

Weigh in day for me. A slow week, but I've now hit 1.5 stones off, which I am really happy about 🥳 Apparently, that's about the same as the average dachshund!!!

CW: 12st 3

After 1 week: Feb 28th 13st 2 (- 8 pounds)
After 2 weeks: March 6th 12st 12 (- 4 pounds)

@Thebaldprimadonna Congratulations, that's fantastic loss!

Loving the daschund analogy! 😂

MelissaLouRocks · 10/04/2024 08:05

This is a bit left field, but does anyone have any recommendations for high protein foods particularly from Morrison's, especially snacky things? I'm struggling a bit with meals at the moment.

I'm disabled and don't manage to get out very often, but am having a better day so thought I'd go and raid their fish bar!

I'm pescetarian btw, thank you. 🤗

Sorry you're feeling sad 😔 try to remember that this gain isn't actual fat. Your body is probably just holding on to extra water and will sort itself out in a day or two.

Hope you feel better soon and your body starts working again soon!

Oh right? So you think it's people that work for Voy trying to sell their product? I didn't realise that could happen! Lol

@MelissaLouRocks I love smoked mackerel, I'm also a big fan of olives and pickled eggs. I snack on these a lot. I also love tuna mayo on cucumber slices, and melted babybels.
There is a new vegerami stick which tastes of salami but it's veggie. It's processed but very tasty.

@ObsidianTree I've reported a few. It's either someone working for them or someone who is only coming to this forum in order to promote their vouchers. It worries me as they all say things like "I took mj and have felt amazing, no symptoms" so it feels like they are trying to to sell the drug to whoever is willing to use the code. Doesn't sit right with me. Anyone feeling vulnerable because of their weight (ie any of us) could be lured into it without any knowledge of what it actually is.

Gosh I sound old. But there you go.
