Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thank you @MelissaLouRocks. The posts on here are really inspiring and I'm hoping that this will help end the cycle of dieting and losing weight and then putting it back on. I'm so sick of thinking about food and weight all the time!
I had an email from Medexpress asking for a full length photo and photo ID before they can process my order. Is this usual? I've sent both but even the process of taking a full length photo was horrible. I prefer to be in denial about how much weight I've put on 😥

Yes totally normal. I started with Bolt and had to send full length photo and copy of driving license, then same when I moved to MedExpress for my 5mg pen.

Yes it’s normal. I’m using it as my before pic!

RipePeach · 09/04/2024 21:06

Thank you! I'm hoping I'll get my first batch soon then so I can get started. I'm excited and nervous in equal measure!

I'm another who isn't taking anything. Just drinking water and trying to eat well.

RagzRebooted · 09/04/2024 21:28

I'm drinking electrolyte drinks occasionally (zero ones, come in a tube) but only because I already had them. I also already take magnesium and a few other supplements.
So far my only ongoing side effect is background nausea. Not enough to bother me much, but enough to not want to eat too much!
The first week I was colder and sleep was a bit disturbed. I had stomach cramps the day after my first dose and mild diarrhoea a few times, but nothing like some of you are getting. A few headaches, but I get them anyway.

Investinmyself · 09/04/2024 21:36

BourbonD · 09/04/2024 20:19

Anyone else just plain impatient? I have lost 13lbs in 3 weeks, yet today I am feeling a bit rubbish as photos of me from an occasion have been posted online and I’m cringing how huge I look in them. I haven’t taken photos of myself for years as I’m just too embarrassed. I need to alter my mindset to just settle into this new lifestyle and ride it out. I’ve got at least 4 stone to go.

Wow 13lb in 3 weeks. That’s amazing. I’m sure no one else will think badly of you in the photos we are so hard on ourselves. At next event you can look back at how far you have come.

Investinmyself · 09/04/2024 21:37

@Timeturnerplease get well soon. Maybe stay in lower dose I wonder if you are very sensitive to it.

Investinmyself · 09/04/2024 21:38

I’m also not taking electrolytes. I like the fact the urge to drink water is there. I’ve never drunk so much water. Skin really good.

KeepingUndercover · 09/04/2024 21:43

Honestly, I thought electrolytes were just a scam invented to part us with more money. It’s salty sugary water isn’t it? I’m sure my diet has more than enough salt and sugar in it anyway, so I’ll stick with just the water.

Choux · 09/04/2024 21:48

Timeturnerplease · 09/04/2024 19:47

@JJR26 and @NC543210 can I ask how the diarrhoea is going?

I was fine, zero side effects on 2.5mg until the fourth dose when the gates of hell (great description) truly did open and I was unable to eat anything solid for five days without (sorry for the TMI) liquid, explosive diarrhoea and crippling stomach cramps. Had to have two days off school - teacher, not student - which is unheard of for me. Imodium didn’t touch it.

Similar happened for the first (48 hours of liquid hell) and second 5mg dose (20 hours of liquid hell).

Anyone got advice on how to cope with this while also teaching full time and parenting two young children? Desperate to continue with MJ as am at just over a stone loss!

Well it seems the time being unwell is reducing with each dose which is good.

I would move your injections to Friday night or Saturday morning so you can be at home and then hopefully the symptoms will be better by Monday morning and you won't need to miss school. Hope it gets better soon. I would stick to 5mg until the summer holidays when you are off work.

Yes it’s normal. I’m using it as my before pic!

I'm also using mine as my before pic. It was horrible having to take a full length photo not hiding behind a good angle/trying to look as good as possible. But totally worth it as a first step on this road.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 09/04/2024 22:00

Rainbowl · 09/04/2024 16:54

I want to lose 6st 11lb and I’m 10% of the way there, that’s what I was getting confused with @CiderJabs @PissedOffNeighbour22 😂

I think whenever anyone achieves a ring goal we need to see a (non identifying) pic of said ring(s) to celebrate! I’ll definitely post mine when I get them back on ☺️

It sounds like it's going well for you and that's what matters.

Re the rings goal - it turns out I've lost my engagement ring 😓. That's the second time I've lost it despite rarely wearing it. Hopefully it's still somewhere in the house.

I've found all my other rings (all size J) and they all fit!!

MelissaLouRocks · 09/04/2024 22:10

ObsidianTree · 09/04/2024 12:54

Yes. The big phamas are going to want to get in on this big profit maker for sure. So hopefully weight loss drugs will be competitive in the future.

I think Wegovy won't be popular soon as people are doing better on MJ. So their prices might go down. Or they might improve the formula to include trezipide!

I feel like I should be buying shares in Eli lilly!

I looked at the price, today $757 each. 😳

I did too! Bit too pricy for me! And also remembered I'm spending all my spare money on Mounjaro 🤣

I am going to keep my eye out for the next weightloss wonder drug and invest in that producer.

That would be Retatrutide, which in trials is proving even more effective than Mounjaro. But it's also Eli Lilly, so no cheap share prices to be had.

MelissaLouRocks · 09/04/2024 22:24

MoreThanJustANumber · 09/04/2024 14:19

Very interesting, looking at this and comparing the loss after 12 weeks on 5mg and 10mg (although maybe the one on 10mg was actually on 7.5 at that point) there is a negligible difference in losses. I've tried to show this in the attached graph but it might be a bit fuzzy!

The graph came from Mounjaro trials, and it was definitely 10 as the 7.5 wasn't used in that one. If you listened to the whole video that went with the graph, it explains it.

Loving that these drugs are now being developed. Shame it wasn't 10/20 years ago tho when I was still in my 20s/30s!

WannabeHealthier · 09/04/2024 23:05

Regarding side effects, my experience has been they lessen with each injection and then increase when you go up a dose.

First of all on 2.5mg I had crampy aches in my legs, a headache and incredibly dry mouth/lump in throat. The aches were very uncomfortable. Next dose a bit achy, headache continued but dry mouth not as bad. Next injection everything had settled but I noticed I was feeling colder than usual and not sweaty as much when rushing about. This is a welcome side effect though!

When I increased to 5mg that’s when the gastro issues started- acute period pain and stomach cramps leading to a day of diarrhoea. Some sulphur burps. Everything settled since day 3. I’ve just taken my second 5mg shot, so will see what happens next. But no sign of the side effects I had at 2.5mg which is weird but good!

I have so far not experienced any of these side effects: constipation, nausea, low mood or anxiety, reflux or indigestion, bloating or gas HOWEVER I am expecting to potentially experience these and don’t think I’m out of the woods yet! Clearly my body is still adjusting and reactions are unpredictable.

But I am feeling confident that side effects seem more fleeting on Mounjaro than the other weight loss medications. Many of them seem to pass quite quickly for most people and those that don’t (cold, constipation) you potentially can do something to help (more clothes, supplements to help you go).

It’s reminding me of (mild) Covid in terms of the random smorgasbord of symptoms you get - which seemed to come and go rapidly for me and my family. We all had the same infection strain but a different cocktail of symptoms. Appreciate that we were lucky we didn’t have chronic symptoms/ long covid like others did - we just had it mild and noticed the wide range of symptoms which changed every few hours!

@lurkylurk put mine in Friday and have had acknowledgment of pictures/ weight info and info on 2,5mg already being used but not been processed.

What sort of gap did you leave between pens? Will it go against me that I have ordered straight away?

I ordered my5mg pen only 6 days after my 2.5 in order to get a good discount price.

Femeia · 09/04/2024 23:23

A word of warning about ordering early - I decided to switch to Medexpress as I had a code. I've uploaded all my info and was asked for a prescription dated within 6 weeks, otherwise I have to go back to 2.5mg. Because I ordered my 5mg early and then was waiting till the last minute to see if the 7.5mg came into stock, my prescription is 6 weeks and 2 days old..... now waiting to see if I get refused Angry

That sounds harsh if they refuse. Surely you can just show them that you ordered the 2.5mg mid Feb and the 5mg late Feb and you have enough product to still be taking it now?

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 00:06

Wonkypictureframe · 09/04/2024 14:38

Eli Lilly is not new on the block! I imagine the shares have been pretty expensive for a long time.

@Wonkypictureframe
I was going to say! They are also the makers of Prozac and lots more.

Femeia · 10/04/2024 00:21

@Choux I'll see what they say - I think it's ridiculous, it's not like the prescription is really old. I may then show the 2.5mg prescription or I may just order the 7.5mg from Bolt instead (I hope they don't have the same rule)
