Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@MelissaLouRocks I love smoked mackerel, I'm also a big fan of olives and pickled eggs. I snack on these a lot. I also love tuna mayo on cucumber slices, and melted babybels.
There is a new vegerami stick which tastes of salami but it's veggie. It's processed but very tasty.

I'm liking the smoked mackerel, and tuna on cucumber! Sorry I should've said, due to my conditions I don't deal with processed food very well. 😕 Which I suppose I should consider a good thing, but it's a bit of a bummer sometimes.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 10/04/2024 08:28

End of week 1.
lost 3.5lb.

Not a huge loss compared to some but better then I would have had if I wasn’t using Mounjaro.

No side effects really except some lower back pain the last 2 days but that’s gone today.

Ive lost 1st 7lb since the start of the year. Most of it was on my own but this helps takes the sugar craving away.

Onwards and upwards.

Haven’t told anyone I’m using Mounjaro. Not even my husband.

Nooneknowsbutme · 10/04/2024 08:39

@TheOverweightFortySomething
Well done on the loss!
I started this week, and haven't told a soul...
Hope my partner doesn't find where I've stashed my pen!!
Already started to worry that he will intercept my next delivery.....

Samsam23 · 10/04/2024 08:40

RagzRebooted · 10/04/2024 07:51

@Samsam23 it will be fine, it's allowed to be out of the fridge for 30 days (cumulatively, so can take it in and out) as long as it doesn't go over 30 degrees Celsius it will be fine. Put it in the fridge when you get it.

Ok great. I will put it straight in fridge when get it. Usually keep it in there. Thank you

CiderJabs · 10/04/2024 08:13

@ObsidianTree I've reported a few. It's either someone working for them or someone who is only coming to this forum in order to promote their vouchers. It worries me as they all say things like "I took mj and have felt amazing, no symptoms" so it feels like they are trying to to sell the drug to whoever is willing to use the code. Doesn't sit right with me. Anyone feeling vulnerable because of their weight (ie any of us) could be lured into it without any knowledge of what it actually is.

Gosh I sound old. But there you go.

I'll look out for them too! Suppose we can just report new ones.

I guess I assumed people putting Voy codes were just starting and trying to get their discount!

Should I take Voy off the list of suppliers for next thread do you think?

OP posts:
CiderJabs · 10/04/2024 08:47

@ObsidianTree it's a tough one because some of us have genuinely used it and could benefit from their code being used. I don't know really. I've decided I won't use it myself and if I did, I would ask one of you who I know are genuine to share your code.
I don't know tbh. Interested to see what the others think as well.

I searched the username of the one I reported and they’d posted the exact same message on different threads on this board, all within a few minutes of each other. They hadn’t said anything else on any thread. No supportive comments or general joining in.

Got deleted pretty quickly.

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 08:51

Well done @TheOverweightFortySomething

My first week I lost 3lbs so not much either. I also started dieting in Jan and lost a stone before starting jabs, so could have contributed to lower first week loss. But I have gone on to lose a few lbs a week consistently, so can't complain :)

Good luck with not telling anyone. My husband knows but my kids dont as they are blabber mouths! However it's near impossible to get my jab done secretly without a kid or a cat coming in! My son caught me last time and asked what I was doing, I said taking my medicine and he accepted that 🤣 phew!

@ObsidianTree There are cheaper suppliers we've used and had no issues with, so maybe replace Voy with Bolt..?

I think the aggressive marketing is a bit suspicious but they've not been a bad supplier per se...I guess their business model is to get people in with a discount and then keep them. Ideally, I think people are probably better staying with one supplier but we know it's a competitive world and people can change! I'd be cautious about risking getting locked in with one of the more pricey ones.
I think some are going with Voy for support and coaching too...but it doesn't really seem to be materialising that way so might be worth giving a heads up regards that side too, if people are paying more in the belief they are getting an enhanced service.

Yes it's difficult to decide. Generally I don't mind people sharing codes etc. But if there are continuous posts of Voy links, that could get annoying! But I did say on title post if people want a voy code, ask, so if we stick to that and people only give codes if someone asks etc!

I think MedExpress can work out close to the voy discounted price with a coupon code. So I prefer to promote them. As you don't need to panic the next month to try and get a referral to keep the cost down as their price is reasonable anyway!

I have edited the starter post for next thread to include bolt.

I am starting to think Voy isn't worth including anymore.

Let me know what people think!

This is a bit left field, but does anyone have any recommendations for high protein foods particularly from Morrison's, especially snacky things? I'm struggling a bit with meals at the moment.

I'm disabled and don't manage to get out very often, but am having a better day so thought I'd go and raid their fish bar!

I'm pescetarian btw, thank you. 🤗

My favourite proteiny, snacky (and fishy!) thing from Morrisons may not be to everyones taste! It's the marinated anchovy fillets from the olive bar, I don't like them from anywhere else but theirs are lovely. They are of course covered in oil (like the olives) but you can dab it off with kitchen roll. They also stock Langley Farm cottage cheese which I like, the chive one is nice.

Found this which has peoples posts about high protein foods and snacks, particularly from different supermarkets, including Morrisons. Some of the posts are american but some from UK too:

Ooh I love anchovies! Will have a look at that, thanks so much @lurkylurk 😊

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 09:04

@MelissaLouRocks
Oh good! They're not the prepackaged ones from the normal fridges but the ones that you put in a pot from the olive bar. I have some in the fridge as we speak.

@lurkylurk I shall just have to try not to have eyes bigger than my belly! Though that would be difficult til I've lost a lot more. 😂

I've really got to try to buy less, too much food waste that I really can't afford. Am hoping once I perfect it, will more or less pay for the MJ iykwim.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 10/04/2024 09:14

Morning everyone and well done @Thebaldprimadonna and @TheOverweightFortySomething and everyone else who has had recent losses. Sorry to hear you're feeling down @FlappyFish, it's such an emotive journey (hate that word but I'll go with it!) and sometimes it is just out of our hands. Be proud of your cumulative effort and allow yourself to be human and have the odd treat still - it was only a little pot, it's been that time of the month, it's still very restrained and it's what you fancied so don't beat yourself up.

Today is my week 4, 1 month weigh day. I am really happy as I lost 2 pounds a week for the first 3 weeks and felt it was a bit slower compared to others however I lost 4 pounds this week, wahey.

HW: 12.12
SW: 12
CW (week 4): 11 stone 4

I'm joining in with the tight wedding/engagement ring club. A stone is missing from mine so today I'm going into town to get it fixed finally as I can take it on and off again now. Still doesn't look a perfect fit but at least I don't have to resort to the dental floss and hair grip removal method like I did last summer Blush

lurkylurk · 10/04/2024 09:17

@MelissaLouRocks
I love vegetables and always overbuy them thinking I'm going to miraculously get up the motivation to cook them for every meal (including breakfast) and end up throwing far too much out.

I love smoked mackerel too, make it into a pate with some soft cheese, lemon and pepper, nice on a ryvita or hot toast.

Another idea for breakfast (which I know some here struggle with getting the protein in there) is Warburtons protein bagel thins, although they may be too processed for your needs. I cook up a poached egg in a poaching ring and have it in one of those, can add a slice of cheese too.

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 09:19

How much protein is on one bagel @lurkylurk?

I'm thinking bagel with cream cheese and salmon sounds nice and full of protein and I might need one! Plus tasty 😋

@ObsidianTree
They're 8 grams of protein per bagel, not massive but with the cream cheese and salmon it's not bad and they're thins so not too "bready". Love smoked salmon too, I often have that and some cream cheese on a sesame ryvita with a squeeze of lemon and black pepper (and some chives if I can be arsed to go out to the garden and get some).

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 10/04/2024 09:25

Morning. This thread moves fast!

I've been a bit worried about side effects once I go up to 5. I have had quite mild side effects on 2.5 - cold, constipation, one brief bout of diarrhea, and the 2.5 is working very well for appetite suppression.
If you had mild side effects on 2.5 and you've gone up to 5, have the side effects stayed relatively mild? And if not, do they last just the first day or two?

I've already got my 5 pen in the fridge - I have a lot of weight to lose (basically half my bodyweight) so am keen to get to the therapeutic dose asap. I'm just feeling nervous!

Sounds delish! And a good amount of protein actually. A egg is only like 7g of protein!

I'll pick some up next time I go shopping :)

I'm nervous about this too, can't help with a report as haven't moved up yet, but from what I've read on US reddit boards, new side effects from the jump up will settle down after a bit.

It's the only jump up that literally doubles the dose, I may actually use some insulin syringes (have ordered some with 8mm microfine needles as bit shorter than the others and closer to the ones with the pens) to use some of the extra dose in my 2.5mg to make it a 3.75mg dose for my last one from that pen to ease the gradient.

Usually my lunch is dark rye Ryvita with smoked salmon, and either cottage or cream cheese with black pepper.

Don't get on too well with bread sadly.

ObsidianTree · 10/04/2024 09:30

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin I had mild side effects for 2.5mg. Don't remember anything bad apart from being a bit cold. I had a slight headache after taking but that went away quickly with an ibuprofen. The first shot up to 5mg I felt really cold the first night. Also a bit achy, but ibuprofen sorted that out. Coldness was the main side effect for me.
