Thanks @LoadsToLose. I'm on a good streak with my fitness pal too. Like you, I've never managed to stick with it before. Thanks also to @JanetSnakeholeMacklin and @Rainbowl.

Thanks @NCfor24. I lost weight 10 years ago for my 30th and no one noticed until I was 'too thin' either 😄. I was 6st less than my starting weight this time so was quite a shock to see just how much weight I've put on in the last few years.

I'm 4.5st heavier than my previous lowest weight. It's like deja vu...here we go again! I've only successfully lost a significant amount that 1 time. But I've lost and regained the same 2 stone a few times!! Not this time though 💪💪

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 05/04/2024 12:37

I've finished my first week. I've lost 2.8 lbs, which is amazing because it means I've finally broken through a three-month plateau.

This despite having been on holiday this week and going out for lunch and dinner every day (though having small portions, like only a starter rather than a main, or sharing a main with my children).

Dieting is still about willpower for me, but I feel that I don't need quite as much on Mounjaro. I track what I eat and make sure I do at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, which includes pilates, cross-training, strength training, and martial arts. I make my meals protein-based as much as possible.

I have no real side effects and don't take supplements, but I did have a protein shake this morning for the first time ever.

I still get hungry (which I don't mind) but not ravenous, and once I start eating, I am full quicker.

Good luck everyone, especially to those who are about to take their first dose 🙂

going on hols 4th jab due while away. Don’t want to put it in hand luggage, has anyone carrried a pen through airport security or in hold luggage without problem. Thanks

lurkylurk · 05/04/2024 13:08

I had my first dose on Tuesday last week and felt it had worn off after 4 days and ate plenty over Easter weekend. I was supposed to take next dose on Tuesday this week but didn't as my period had started and was feeling really ill with that. Was going to take yesterday but was out all day shopping with DD and didn't want to risk side effects!

Anyway, I had been eating more since the weekend than the first few days after taking it and thought it was all completely worn off but when I went to the food court with my daughter yesterday and had a comparatively slightly larger meal I ended up soooo stuffed, for hours as well, was still really full when went to bed so obviously still having an effect!

It wasn't like I'd had a big greasy meal either, there was chips with it but I didn't finish them and the rest was grilled chicken souvlaki and salad, the dip was mayo based but it all didn't seem over the top but regretted eating so much of it for hours after, it was uncomfortable!

Have had second dose today, supposed to be going for curry with a friend tomorrow so think I'll just eat very slowly and at the first sign of satiety take the rest home in a doggy bag!

Surely people with insulin or epi-pens can take in hand luggage without any problems- try looking on google for these two conditions?

Ok this is what I have so far. Anything else?

Pointers for newbies:
For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1.
Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to feel the effects, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the full effects until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.
You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system.
Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing.
See link for information on this: www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf
Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here : click2pharmacy.co.uk/product/mounjaro-weight-loss-injections/
Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.
Protein is important and you should try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.
You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.
Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.
Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - for newbies try code STARTNOW to get a discount. If it doesn't work, ask for a code on here or do a Google search to find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219
There are others places also.

There is 5 doses in each pen. You can get the last dose out by twisting the pen really hard(remove needle before twisting again) or you can get insulin needles to extract the last dose. If you buy the syringes on Amazon please be careful. The ones below are safe, and come from a medical company and are sterile. 1ml Insulin Syringe Rays .33mm (29g) 13mm (Pack of 20) https://amzn.eu/d/0N0yE3R?tag=mumsnet&a

@ObsidianTree this is amazing. Thank you very much. I am waiting for my first MJ to arrive so this is so helpful.

@angeltop

It's recommended to put it in your hand luggage as the hold luggage can get exposed to extreme temperatures and air pressure changes which could damage the vial or the medication. That does mean though that you'd have to put it in the liquids bag going through security, unless you're flying from one of the airports that have the new luggage scanners, even then you may have to on your way back if they don't have the new scanners in the destination airport.

You could put the needles in your hold luggage though as you're not supposed to take sharp objects on board, it is allowed for insulin and medications and would be allowed for this but there's no need to have them on board for Mounjaro and it avoids having that possible conversation!

It’s here! I’ve popped it into the fridge, checked that the needles are present and correct, read the instructions about 5 times and had some breakfast so why am I so nervous about it??

I was nervous and I'm a nurse! I wasn't worried about pain, just nervous in general I think. It's a big step. It's normal to be nervous.

@youngestisapsycho
I would wait, side effects can be a bit unpredictable and the last thing you want is nausea or the runs while travelling!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 05/04/2024 13:25

@NCfor24 fingers crossed for us this time!

I've only had that one big loss too before this attempt. I really don't think I realised just how big I'd got before starting Mounjaro. I've used having the kids close together as an excuse (and my DP is terrible for excusing my weight as only due to having the kids and genuinely thinks I'm not fat).

I just hope we can keep the weight off afterwards without being too strict with diet and exercise.

I'd leave it until you get back, one more week makes no difference in the long run and you don't want to feel grotty on holiday.

0rganisedchaos · 05/04/2024 13:39

Thank you @ObsidianTree the list is great I think you've really covered everything.

Week 1 weigh in today for me and down exactly 2kg which I'm delighted with I'm aiming for 1kg a week going forward😊

plinter · 05/04/2024 13:39

I've just taken my second dose, I was much less nervous this time.
I haven't weighed yet, waiting until tomorrow as that will be a week. I've taken this dose a day early as long term I want Friday morning to be my regular jab time.
My period has just started and MJ has definitely helped with my usual PMT carb cravings. It also doesn't appear to have had an impact on my cycle, it is normally 24-28 days and it has been 24 days this month.
After having quite a bit of reflux for the first 4 days, I have been symptomless since then, but still having a suppressed appetite. I'm just waiting to see if symptoms return.

Ironinglady2024 · 05/04/2024 13:47

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 05/04/2024 10:00

@ObsidianTree that's a really great list.

Weigh in day today, just done injection 7.
Starting weight 15st 11lb 8oz
Last week's weight 14st 2lb 6oz
Current weight 13st 12lb 4oz

Starting bmi was 40.4 and current bmi is 33.9. I'm very pleased with how it's coming down.

I'm so happy to see 13 on the scales so I celebrated early last night with a takeaway, then lost another pound overnight. I'm so close to 2st loss!!

My original goal was 2st off by end of May for my 40th birthday/holiday. Now I'm upping that to 3st as that will put me back to the weight I was when I met my DP 6yrs ago (pre 2 kids). My final goal is 10st as I don't think my 'correct' weight range of 7st 8lb to 10st 2lb is achievable at the lower end.

No one has noticed my weight loss 😂 (apart from DP of course). I'm not fully down to a size 18 yet from a 20 but my clothes are much looser, especially tops as I seem to be losing a lot up top and very little from my belly.

@PissedOffNeighbour22 amazing losses. Well done!

They are mainly carried for medical reasons with possibly supporting paperwork.

CiderJabs · 05/04/2024 14:02

I think you just need to take the box to confirm it's a prescribed drug, and don't take any needles in your hand luggage.

Ironinglady2024 · 05/04/2024 14:03

That’s my first MJ been delivered. Now hidden at the back of the veg drawer. I am not telling my hubby.
It’s our wedding anniversary tomorrow and meant to be having a meal and a drink. So I think it might be best to wait until Sunday. Desperate to start but worried what symptoms I will have when we are headed out for anniversary. Once I know how my body takes to it I will be more relaxed.
This has been great reading here with all the tips. So thank you.

guestusername · 05/04/2024 14:24

Thank you for your encouragement! First dose done and I swear I’ve got a headache already but it’s only been 10 minutes 🤣 it was much easier to do than the small tree of instructions made it look! Now we wait and see 🤞

edit - I’m undecided whether I’ll tell OH but definitely not telling anyone else for a good while yet

Do any of you follow a diet like slimming world along with the jabs?

Investinmyself · 05/04/2024 15:27

If you have got a big meal or holiday I’d personally wait. The leaflet recommends a bland low fat diet. I think when people have pushed it and eaten rich food or alcohol have sometimes had side effects.
I’ve been fine in the main but have just had an upset tummy I think due to eating something spicier last night, I was glad I was at home not at airport put it that way.

I’m cc with nutracheck. But I’ve previously done sw and still eat in a similar way eg 1/3 plate veg, overnight oats for breakfast. You do need to focus on protein not fill up on carbs on mj. The sw SP plan (protein & veg plus healthy extras) would work well. So eg overnight oats breakfast, omelette or homemade soup lunch and protein & veg dinner.
