Is any one else strength training? I've just done my second workout. Legs are like jelly

Choux · 04/04/2024 13:39

stealtheatingtunnocks · 04/04/2024 13:35

What about increasing the time between doses? I had a big work meeting the day of my injection so I decided to do it the next day incase of bowel issues. I’m 2 days “late” and still not got an appetite. This would be my 3rd 5mg dose.

I think I should wait til my appetite comes back a bit like it did in 2.5

Adjusting the day of injection is perfectly fine. The instructions say you should allow 3 (or is it 4?) days between doses. If you don't feel you need the next injection yet then I wouldn't take it. Adding another 5mg into your body could give you side effects (I did my first 5mg dose this morning and currently feel a bit sick although that could be psychosomatic)

Choux · 04/04/2024 13:45

@NCfor24 I have kept my 5th dose of 2.5mg and I started on 5mg today. Partly because I was away for Easter so didn't want to be on 5mg and partly because I am nervous about using my (sterile insulin) Amazon bought needles to inject it.

I will use it at some point before it expires in May. Probably at the end of the 5mg pen or instead of a 5mg dose (I think someone calculated it's 0.3mg) if I have some social events and want a little less that week.

I do strength trading 3x a week. I had more energy at my last session. Maybe be sure you have eaten (even a small) balanced meal beforehand?
First week, WI on Sat morning, but I jumped on the scales this morning & I am down 4.5lb - 30 or so to go!

Choux · 04/04/2024 13:58

Today is my first 5mg injection. Took it at 8am and currently feel a little nauseous but nothing drastic. My 4 x 2.5mg injections resulted in a 6lb weight loss. I would have lost more if I had been at home all month but I had 2 long weekends away with friends when I pushed the limited of what I was able to eat and also ate more treat food. So I am ok with 6lb over three dieting weeks and 1 holiday week. Planning to be more focused on eating healthier for my 5mg month though.

I have been injecting into my stomach which is easy but apparently the place where it absorbs the fastest. I found even 2.5 totally killed my appetite for the first 2-3 days so I think I need to start injecting into my thigh from next week to try and spread the effect it has on me over the week.

"The body absorbs insulin at different speeds from each of the sites. This information can be useful when planning insulin injections:
• Abdomen: Insulin enters the bloodstream most quickly after an abdominal injection.
• Upper arms: The body absorbs insulin with moderate speed but slower than an injection in the abdomen.
• Lower back and thighs: Insulin enters the bloodstream most slowly from these sites."

I assume insulin is similar to Mounjaro in terms of absorption rates?

BourbonD · 04/04/2024 14:29

Been out and bought magnesium lotion, fingers crossed for tonight because I really need some sleep. Definitely feeling hungrier but it’s also my time of the month so I’m wondering if that has any impact. Generally doing low carb which I know works for me, so having a large salad at the minute. I’m half way through with it and bored.

@stealtheatingtunnocks

It would certainly make it cheaper if you could space them out and still have enough effect! It's what they do for maintenance doses in the US.

NNSingers · 04/04/2024 14:38

I'm about 40 hours in from my first dose in my thigh. Definitely not thinking about food as much, it's bizarre. And I can resist things I couldn't before so that's a plus. I didn't end up having anything until 2pm today which I know isn't good. I do have an electrolyte tablet in water as soon as I get up. I have a thumping headache so may need more (I'm obviously drinking lots of water on top of this), can I ask how many electrolyte powders/drinks people are having per day?x

NCfor24 · 04/04/2024 14:40

@Choux interesting about the absorption rates. I've only jabbed stomach so far so might try thigh this time and see whether it lasts longer for me.
Which is an argument against having the extra 5th dose I guess!

Wonkypictureframe · 04/04/2024 14:49

I think it’s no bad thing to feel hungry. Better to be able to feel hunger and work out what a good portion size for sustainable weight loss.

Your headache is probably from low blood sugar. Eat something and you will hopefully feel better. I have one electrolyte tablet a day so far. For me, the most important thing is fiber capsules and aloe Vera tablets. Oh, and protein!

@NCfor24 @Choux I injected in my thigh. I'm on day 7 of 2.5 (injecting later when I get home) and although the super mega appetite suppression lasted 3-4 days, I still don't really have much of an appetite, and I don't eat as much as I used to when I do eat - I just get bored!

NNSingers · 04/04/2024 15:16

Thank you @JanetSnakeholeMacklin I am also on the aloe tablets. I have suffered with constipation all my life so it was definitely going to be a side effect for me. Strangely I've never heard of using aloe Vera tablets but they are really effective and gentle so thanks everyone on here who suggested them!

noclouds · 04/04/2024 15:35

Took my first injection on Sunday night and the first three days were brilliant. I knew what to expect as have been on saxenda last year.

But today I have definitely felt hungrier is this 'normal' for it to wear off so quickly? I'm a bit worried if I have to get through two more days before my next injection

Choux · 04/04/2024 15:40

So for I'm taking Mounjaro au naturale - a bit of an oxymoron given it's a manufactured drug.

Currently I'm not taking laxatives as have always been pretty regular so the being less regular is mainly fine and stops me eating too much. I'm focusing on low carb, high protein eating so not taking any protein drinks. I feel fine in terms of energy and headaches so I'm not taking any electrolytes. And I read a collagen related thread here which said it can't be absorbed from supplements and powders so I am not taking those either.

I may start doing some of these things if I feel I need them. Have those of you taking protein and electrolytes done them when doing previous diets? Or do you feel your requirements are different when using Mounjaro?

I took my 4th 2.5mg dose and the ‘bonus’ dose I extracted yesterday and I can feel it. No appetite, feel slightly nauseous and slight headache. I’ve had a protein yogurt so far and water.
7.5 lb off in 3 weeks. My bmi is overweight now.
Interesting about how long will prescribe for. I’m aiming for top end healthy bmi and then will see.
As someone who has previously pushed weight loss to a low bmi I’d caution about aiming for too low bmi as maintaining is impossible in my experience. I think for most people it’s recommended to sit around bmi 22/23 from a health point of view but certain ethnic backgrounds are different.

How is it going on the 5th dose. I took my 4th on Monday, but not feeling much effect, so not sure whether to do 5th dose tomorrow. I feel nauseous, but I am more hungry with it and finding it very hard not to pick at food, which is a first after three weeks. How I feel on the first week and now is very different. I had more of an effect in the first two weeks.

The BMI I'm going for is 22. A BMI of 25 still shows on me as overweight as I am small and I would certainly still feel my weight was negatively affecting my health at 25. I really hope Asda don't cut the prescription short there as I want a few pounds leeway too as I will inevitably gain a few back initially as my body adjusts without medication. I'm a bit disappointed if that's what they do as it does not make sense to have the cut off at 25 as you could easily end up in the overweight range again after a big meal 😜. Surely its about how we feel in ourselves more than anything. I want my baseline to be well within the healthy weight. Obviously if I had a BMI under 21 I could see why they'd be concerned.

Soukmyfalafel · 04/04/2024 15:46

I am not constipated at the moment, which could be another sign it's not working so well for me now.

I have used senna and coconut water for that to good effect.

CiderJabs · 04/04/2024 16:08

@Soukmyfalafel I would think you could order at least one more pen if you're just over 25 and that in itself might bring you down to 22/23. They are not clear on when they'd stop, and as ppl have said, it prob depends how long until you're in that position as the controls might change overtime. You also have the (potential) option to order two pens from two different suppliers within a week or two and sort of stock up.

I'm just under 30 and had no further questions asked. I'm with health express and am inclined to stay with them even if they are not the cheapest have been very impressed so far.

On another note- how many calories on a pina colada? Asking for a friend 👀

Pigriver · 04/04/2024 16:22

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin omg I did a different legs, bums, tums class on Tuesday and I can still barely walk. 45 mins or squats and lunges with weights 😭
I do 1 LBT, 1 aqua aerobics (with the Floatie weights) plus 2 gym sessions a week.

Investinmyself · 04/04/2024 16:31

@Soukmyfalafel I took my 4th and bonus 5th together as I’d had a several days of no appetite suppression over Easter (and me snacking). I am feeling ok just slight headache. Appetite suppressed - I’ve eaten 2 small protein based meals. I’m at stage of not even wanting to be thinking about food.
Yes bmi is very personal. I know NHS bmi calculator recommends losing a few lbs if you put in near top end healthy bmi to stop you tipping into overweight.
It’s positive we are thinking about when we are healthy bmi and maintaining not if. I really think mental impact of this has been huge for me, I was so down with trying to lose and not.
I’m not taking electrolytes or protein powder as I don’t feel need to. I took magnesium anyway (someone recommended it for peri menopause sleep) and have added the aloe Vera pills which are working well no constipation.

Investinmyself · 04/04/2024 16:33

@noclouds I definitely was hungrier end of the week on 2.5mg. Maybe move 2nd dose a day earlier?

I’m also not taking anything yet. Not even to avoid constipation. I have IBS and am usually prone to it but have been very regular since starting so no need yet. I do think a multivitamin is probably a good idea but I’m rubbish at remembering to take one.

Feelingslightlyuneasy · 04/04/2024 18:36

Hi everyone , I started with my first 2.5 injection this morning but it seems to have had no effect - in fact I am hungrier 🤦‍♀️ has anyone else felt like this after their first injection and if so when did you start having appetite suppression?
Im so disappointed having read all the amazing stories on here, to feel hungrier since I took it!

I’m with you on this. Pre MJ, I took a multivitamin, magnesium (due to getting really bad leg cramps at night). With MJ, I get protein 85% or more from normal food (exception being a couple of Lidl High protein items).
a lot of additives are hype.
Due to constipation, I am now taking 25ml of aloe Vera juice per day/as needed, which seems to do the trick. I did wonder about collagen. Lots of stuff cannot survive/ get denatured by digestive juices

plinter · 04/04/2024 18:50

One big difference I've noticed, is if I do have a small carby snack, I feel full afterwards and don't need to eat again for a while. I'm staying with family this week, so lots of nibbles about. Yesterday I had some crisps in the afternoon and was worried that meant the effects were wearing off, but I had a small dinner and was fine. Similar happened today. In the past that would have triggered me into a snacking frenzy. The other change is I really don't want a sweet snack.
Regarding supplements, I take vitamins, electrolytes and collagen, but I've been doing that for a while now. I have found they really help my perimenopause symptoms, so have just carried on taking them alongside mounjaro.

The 2.5mg is the getting body used to it dose. Some people haven’t had any effect immediately.
