@Feelingslightlyuneasy have a read through the previous threads as there's plenty of us who didn't get a result immediately. The 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose so is unlikely to give you any weight loss. If you're watching what you eat then of course you'll start to see results soon. If you read up on it before starting you'll be aware that the tests done by the manufacturer didn't show any noticeable losses until the higher doses (which aren't available yet).

For me it took at least 4 days before I felt anything. I'm a couple of weeks into the 5mg which is the first therapeutic dose and I'm still hungry a lot of the time. It's making it easier to say no to bad foods but it isn't going to give you miracles in a day.

I'm still eating large meals at night as I don't have the 'too full to eat' feeling others mention on here and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm losing a good amount of weight, but who knows how much of it is the Mounjaro and how much is just willpower and cutting calories.

ObsidianTree · 04/04/2024 19:25

I'm thinking for the next thread I add some starter points for newbies to the original post. Like commonly asked questions that we get quite often.

Any suggestions of what would be useful in the opening post?

I'm on day 4 of 2.5mg and I can honestly say my appetite and the food noise has been totally killed. I'm seeing some quick weight loss!

A link to the titration chart that tells you what to expect at different doses. That is definitely the most asked question!

The "do I have to keep it in the fridge" question. Something about supplements too.

Not for the opening post, but please everyone don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it is an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal it it's a meal time. It's ok.

NNSingers · 04/04/2024 19:34

I'm just over 48hrs into my first dose of 2.5mg and my appetite is definitely suppressed, it's not completely gone but I haven't felt the need or urge to back at all. I am being conscious of what I eat as I am desperate for results and already imagining fitting into my summer clothes again!

@ObsidianTree I think that's an amazing suggestion as I am a newbie and would have loved some good advice/pointers when I started x

Thanks. I have written these done.

So you don't think it should be posted about feeling hungry on the op?

OP posts:
PissedOffNeighbour22 · 04/04/2024 19:40

@ObsidianTree
Side effects and what is being taken to help - or maybe a link to somewhere that lists the known side effects.
Maybe a short list of the cheaper places to purchase from as that gets asked quite often.
A reminder that the aim is to change our eating habits in a healthy way.

@RagzRebooted thanks re the magnesium spray. Will gear myself up to try again with it 😄

I think it would be helpful for people to know that the first 4 weeks is titration NOT therapeutic dose.

I’m seeing people posting about still feeling hunger 2-3 days after a 2.5mg dose. It tells me they haven’t read about this medication or they simply don’t understand titration. Both are worrying!!

I think a robust FAQ would be so helpful - I would definitely have benefited from it. Just knowing you have to twist the pen up FOREVER to get to the dose is useful isn’t it.

Thanks very much for this, it’s really helpful.

I was just a little concerned I’d not injected it correctly or something, seeing all the wonderful stories on here - absolutely not expecting a miracle in a day! I guess the main draw for me was to reduce my appetite/cravings as I am a very disordered eater who binges, I want to reset that for a healthier future.

Its reassuring to know others haven’t had any reduction in appetite at this stage, as when I Google it it seems to suggest it would happen immediately. I’ll stick with it 🙂 thanks for the helpful advice xx

The hungry thing could go in, but that was more me not wanting to make a separate post to get that off my chest so just adding it on the end. 😂

Oh yes! The pen twisting definitely. Super helpful.

Great idea. Tips for common side effects, aloe Vera for constipation, electrolytes for headaches. I'm sure there must be others.

Choux · 04/04/2024 19:53

People could do with a link to the patient information

Plus this 'what to expect' photo

Continuing Mounjaro...part 3
JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 04/04/2024 19:57

Maybe a couple of tips? Like try and eat X amount of protein/eat protein before shot. Absorption rate differences between legs/stomach. Where to get legit needles or swabs.

ObsidianTree · 04/04/2024 20:15

Ok this is what I have so far. Anything else?

Pointers for newbies:
For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1.
Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to feel the effects, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the full effects until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.
You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system.
Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing.
See link for information on this: www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf
Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here : click2pharmacy.co.uk/product/mounjaro-weight-loss-injections/
Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.
Protein is important and you should try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.
You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.
Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.
Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - for newbies try code STARTNOW to get a discount. If it doesn't work, ask for a code on here or do a Google search to find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219
There are others places also.

There is 5 doses in each pen. You can get the last dose out by twisting the pen really hard(remove needle before twisting again) or you can get insulin needles to extract the last dose. If you buy the syringes on Amazon please be careful. The ones below are safe, and come from a medical company and are sterile. 1ml Insulin Syringe Rays .33mm (29g) 13mm (Pack of 20) https://amzn.eu/d/0N0yE3R?tag=mumsnet&a

Amazing list, well done @ObsidianTree. I did start to write suggestions but my baby had other ideas and in the meantime you shared your fab list.

guestusername · 04/04/2024 20:25

The start now code didn’t work for me last night so maybe don’t include it - instead just put something like “codes will be posted on the thread as and when they come up”?

ObsidianTree · 04/04/2024 20:34

Cool. I will add the bits about injection sites and absorption rates @JanetSnakeholeMacklin

I will remove the MedExpress code @guestusername

Thanks all

That looks fantastic @ObsidianTree

I can tell it’s injection day tomorrow. I’m due on and for the first time I have craved something sweet. I’ve just eaten some bits of the Marks chocolate dipped honeycomb. It is the most sweet thing I’ve had in two months.

I refuse to feel bad. Who cares if the scales don’t go down tomorrow. This is meant to be for life not constant deprivation of anything other than perceived healthy food.

That in itself is progress. Before I’ve had thought sod it. Eat everything. Eat it all!

Rainbowl · 04/04/2024 20:51

Great idea @ObsidianTree maybe something about how whilst getting the 5th dose out is absolutely fair enough, we all need to be mindful that this is a controlled drug and care needs to be exercised when discussing double dosing etc?

Don’t want to be the fun police but I think it was mentioned in thread two?

Maybe I should leave out the info about the 5th dose? I was unsure whether to include it as it's not in the guidelines to use the 5th dose etc.

OP posts:

I’d be inclined to leave put the 5th dose as it has potential to cause legal issues - tiny potential admittedly but potential nonetheless

Thank you for all the hard work you’ve put into these threads - you’ve helped convince me that I am doing the right thing by going for it when it arrives tomorrow. You’ve been so supportive and encouraging to so many people and your kindness really shines out in your posts 😊
