Is 5mg the amount to inject where I will start losing weight?

FlappyFish · 03/04/2024 20:54

@Rainbowl i had spotting and thought I’d started a week early but I hadn’t. I have a coil but still have periods. I’m every 21-24 days. And they’ve hurt more since MJ too.

if that’s the only real side effect I can cope lol.

Everyone has to start on 2.5 before moving up to 5. Some lose weight very well on 2.5, some don't lose weight until 5. Some don't even lose weight until they've been on 10mg for a couple of weeks - I follow some people on tiktok who took 3 months to see weight loss. It's different for everyone. However, in the trials for the drug carried out by the manufacturer, no significant weight loss was found in patients at 2.5mg.

2nd 5mg injection today.

Only lost 1lb this week, total of 13lb since starting.

Thinking of trying the aloe Vera tablets to help 😂

They've made me feel much better 💩

Investinmyself · 03/04/2024 21:05

Had dose 4 of 2.5mg. I’ve had no appetite suppression last few days. I also extracted the last dose - I bought the syringes linked earlier on here and literally took need off, stuck needle on new syringe in end of pen and pulled plunger back and injected it so I’ve had 5mg.

Just read through all threads and have ordered! Thank you for the nudge everyone.

Lost lots of weight during pregnancy/breastfeeding and felt great then got complacent back at work as I work with food, and also am starving All. The. Time. Now heaviest I've ever been.

Also food treats are a big part of surviving toddler life as life is so busy, exercise limited and I'm knackered! Hoping the drug helps me through this stage then maintaining might be possible!

Out of interest. How long were people on 2.5g for?

Whattodo112222 · 03/04/2024 21:34

2.5mg even

ObsidianTree · 03/04/2024 21:37

Whattodo112222 · 03/04/2024 21:34

2.5mg even

I think a majority of people had just 1 pen of 2.5mg before moving up to 5mg

OP posts:
RunningAndSinging · 03/04/2024 21:39

I only did 2.5 for three doses as it didn’t have much effect on me. I doubled up on week 4 with the extra dose and then went on to the 5 mg pen. You are supposed to do the full 4 weeks and if it is working well or the side effects are not settling down then staying on it for another pen seems wise.

I've been following the Wegovy thread on here, out of curiosity, to compare the two and also because Wegovy has been around longer you can hear from people further down the path and on higher doses.

I have to say I'm glad I went for Mounjaro. Everyone on it seems to lose weight faster and more easily but mostly because the side effects for Wegovy seem MUCH worse!

I know no-one here has gone beyond the first two dose amounts, but I have also had a look at the Mounjaro community on Reddit which is mainly US peeps, so have been on it longer and on higher doses and it really does seem there is a lot less nausea and vomiting going on for the Mounjaro people as opposed to the Wegovy ones.

Good evening all

I'm gearing up to order the syringes to extract the bonus dose and was hoping somebody could advise as to whether these ones on amazon are OK? I've based my search on some that a PP used on the last page however those exact ones are no longer available and I don't need many so don't want to spend £30+

For those who don't want to click links, please see the attached screenshots of the listing.

I've never injected myself with anything except this mounjaro pen so I'm a complete amateur and don't want to mess up. The suggestion that they can be used for cake decorating has thrown me a bit 😐

Is there a specific method you followed to get the liquid out? I've had a google and can't see anything.

Thank you Flowers

Some people are twisting (very) hard and finding that the pen will deliver the extra dose that way (get extra needles for the pen from Amazon or an online chemist). Apparently once you have broken through the tough twisting bit the injection part goes as normal.

Other people are getting 1 ml insulin syringes and pushing the needle though the end of the pen and withdrawing the liquid that way. Best to wipe the end of the pen first with a swab. I did this with a normal 1 ml syringe and ‘orange’ needle. I put some air in my syringe first and injected that in the pen in order to make it easier to get the liquid out, instead of creating a vacuum. Make sure you don’t have any air bubbles in your syringe once you finish by holding the needle vertically and tapping any that you can see to the top and syringing them out. 0.6mg is a full dose for each particular pen you are using - eg 2.5mg for the 2.5mg pen.

Have a read about subcutaneous injection technique before you do it especially if your needle is much longer than the ones with the pen where you would need to go in at a 45 degree angle.

Evening all… I’m due dose 4 of 2.5mg on Friday & felt a bit peckish this afternoon which took me by surprise as I haven’t felt that way in weeks.

I definitely feel like I have more energy and am feeling so much less fatigued. I’m away for a few nights so trying to keep to sensible choices. It’s much harder away from home isn’t it.

Those syringes don’t seem to be claiming that they can be used for people - pets and other uses such as decorating…. Really strange but I am not sure I would go with them.

Indeed, it's very strange!

I might try the twisting method instead, all the different needles and sizes boggle my mind.

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 03/04/2024 22:15

I’m hoping @Rainbowl and @NCfor24 that I can hold out until Friday. The Food Noise definitely reared it’s greedy little head again today, and I really don’t want to undo any progress I’ve made this week. Plus, it’s far too expensive a journey to self sabotage!

plinter · 03/04/2024 22:18

End of day 5 for me, and I'm definitely starting to feel like eating more, however the thought of indigestion is keeping me in check. Went out for lunch today, and whilst I had a very sensible portion size, it was spicy, and quite rich which did cause some indigestion afterwards.
I thinking of bringing dose 2 forward to Friday evening. I started on Saturday morning (as soon as I got the pen), but going forward, the weekends are my tricky time with food, so want to be prepared.
My period is also due next week, which normally means a need to eat, eat, eat!

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 03/04/2024 22:27

Hopefully your next dose will kick in @plinter and you won’t have any cravings next week. I just wish the effects wouldn’t start to wear off so early. I could have done with a ‘top up’ today.

AgathaMystery · 03/04/2024 22:31

I think part of this journey is learning to handle food cravings and seperate them from normal ‘gosh I’m hungry and oh yes it is lunch time’ feelings.

Realistically, none of us will be on this for life. We must learn to ignore ‘food noise’ because it’s very clear to me that as soon as this drug wears off, it comes back.

For me, that is going to be the biggest challenge.

@RunningAndSinging

I have an Amazon business and I'm pretty sure the reason they say that and also the reason they don't mention needles anywhere in the title or description is that they don't have approval to sell those items on Amazon (different categories have different approval requirements), hence they have listed them in the "lab equipment" category, not personal care or medical equipment and don't say anything about them having a needle or being used for injecting. They may well be fine but I personally would order from an online pharmacy or medical supplies place just to be sure.

Wore off after 4 days for me! Unfortunately that was just as the Easter weekend hit, I'm not a sugar person but had relatives staying and we had a big curry on the Saturday, lots of drinks, croissants, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs Sun morning etc. and managed to undo some of the benefits of the previous 4 days!

Between that and my period starting ended up having lost 2 pounds for my first week instead of the 4 it was before the weekend, however, period weight gain will be part of that so I suspect it was really more like 3.

I was due to take dose 2 yesterday but feel so ill with period (since became perimenopausal get a lot of nausea at totm) I haven't done it yet. I'm out shopping with DD tomorrow so think will do after get back.

Channel 4 documentary on miracle weight loss jabs this evening… raising concerns about pharmacies and black market. Haven’t watched it myself but seems to be critical stance. 1 hour long!
