I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again (risking sounding like a preachy nag!) but please try and be patient with your weight loss. Yes we will have impressive losses some weeks, but you will lose nothing or only 1lb some weeks and that’s ok! It’s all good progress.

There is evidence that rapid weight loss medications result in high levels of muscle loss and other adverse effects - which is caused by high calorie deficits and poor nutrition ie not enough protein and other essential nutrients that your body needs.

Please don’t be lured into eating little to get high weekly losses just because this is possible now- it’s not healthy in the medium term. It’s fine to do rapid weight loss for a few weeks, but it could become addictive and lead to disordered eating.

I have worked in the field of eating disorders and am probably more heightened to the risks emerging from some of the posts on here. It really worries me.

Please can we all encourage each other to do this safely and sensibly. Otherwise it could quickly descend into competitive losses and posters feeling discouraged by their 1lb loss or plateau when it’s actually a win and good progress.

Apologies if I come across as preachy but I feel a duty of care to speak up about this. Some Mumsnetters will see our posts and sign up for a quick fix and I worry about them. The decision to take Mounjaro should not be taken lightly and a healthy diet and exercise plan is essential to doing it safely.

Lecture over (sorry!!)

ps This is NOT a criticism of any individual, so please don’t take it personally. Just something to bear in mind for us all as we build this community of peer support xx

@lurkylurk I am hoping next week when I go up to 5mg I magically don't want wine Grin you may find it easy to swerve it's probably just my terrible wine will power!

I still want wine but I’m struggling to drink more than a glass and it takes a lot longer to drink it! I’m still enjoying the taste though. Hopefully you’ll feel the effect at 5mg

ObsidianTree · 27/03/2024 10:32

@Namechange25793 people will feel how they feel and sometimes it's hard not to feel disappointed. If they want to come and say they feel disappointed at only losing a lb then that's ok. This is a place for people to come and say what their feeling and get support from others feeling the same or been there etc.

Would anybody have a Voy discount code please?

It's for my friend. ( I am going to 5mg so couldn't use one)

ObsidianTree · 27/03/2024 10:41

I don't have a voy code @montysma1 but for new starters on MedExpress code STARTNOW gets 25% off. Which makes first order £131 with postage. Then £149 each month after which is cheaper than Voy second month which is £229 or something.

to be totally honest, i came on here to have a moan but saw this post and it made me rethink - so thank you! third injection is tomorrow and over the last two weeks i've lost a whopping 1lb, despite eating (i feel) much more healthily. but it's a marathon, not a sprint, and we're making changes for a better lifestyle rather than a speed loss.

Edit- I have PM you, managed to work out how to do it.

My first pen is being delivered today - I'm partly excited and partly terrified. Currently 12.8, heaviest I've ever been.5'3"I'm wanting to mostly reset my diet I think - boredom eating is a habit that I need to get rid of. And wine. Is it easy to use? I've looked at a couple of videos, but they seem to be American and I don't know if the pen is the same. Will find out in about 3 hours I guess if the post is on time. What's the advice on timing? Do I start first thing in the morning, or later in the evening?(edited to add paragraphs. Which didn't work...)

Hello and welcome to the thread!

It’s not scary once you started- it’s pretty straightforward really.

The US pens are completely different to the UK so I wouldn’t bother with those videos. Just read the instructions a couple of times (in your medication box), and take it step by step when you’re ready to inject. Don’t rush it. It’s painless and easy to do. Top tip is not to worry how much your winding the pen to load the dose. All will become clear when you start.

The preparation you will need to focus on is calculating your calorie allowance, use a TDEE online calculator- it will suggest a number based on your personal info. Use My Fitness pal or similar to track your food and monitor macros.

It’s really important you get enough protein as you can lose muscle mass on this and nutrient deficiency can lead to hair loss and other issues. You should also be thinking about resistance weight training if you don’t already do this as part of your lifestyle (eg 20 min you tube video 3 times a week).

Some people are not tracking food and just restricting intake of calories. Which is fine if you’re confident about nutrition. The advice is to ensure you have a healthy, balanced diet to avoid the adverse effects but also make it more of a sustainable lifestyle change.

eg I have an allowance of 1,470 calories and this is what I ate yesterday

Porridge (215 cal sachet made up with semi milk) coffee

Vegetable soup with thin bagel and butter
Boiled egg
Tangerine
Cups of tea

1/4 roast chicken (breast) with Nando’s marinade, butternut squash, feta cheese, mixed vegetable slaw (cabbages, carrots etc)

Also had a flute of cava to celebrate birthday (swerved the birthday cake!)

Most of my dinners are a lean meat or fish and vegetables. I prioritise getting 100g of protein a day and 5 a day fruit and veg to ensure a healthy diet.

I also take a multivitamin and magnesium supplement- which lots on here are taking. Others also taking electrolytes.

Oh and ensuring you drink lots of water.

Apologies if you already know all this - feel free to ignore if not helpful (but could help someone else reading)

Unfortunately we are both with MedExpress and missed the discount!

I am going up to 5mg with them as it's still a good price.
My friend has had some side effects and is staying on 2.5mg so am trying to grab her a cheap price.

Absolutely, there’s no problem with posting disappointment at no/ low losses. I’m not saying people shouldn’t post - I’m not the thread police! And I do get it - I feel the disappointment myself when there’s no loss.

It’s just a gentle reminder, because it’s an exciting new development in weight loss management and the temptation is there to chase big losses which could come at the expense of some people’s health.

RagzRebooted · 27/03/2024 11:12

Thought I'd do measurements as well, not expecting to see any difference after 5.7lbs but an inch off waist and hips and half an inch off my neck, which is really encouraging.
Plenty of people on here with lower starting weight than me (17.5 stone) have lost a lot more in the first week, but I was really happy with my loss as it's a lot more than I expected and hopefully means I will still lose a bit over the next few weeks.

I did 30 mins on my exercise bike yesterday, which I haven't touched in a very long time. Pleased with myself there.

Breakfast today was a protein Muller rice (really nice), ham, cheese and cucumber. 40g of protein already.

Soukmyfalafel · 27/03/2024 11:14

2nd week has been slow for loss, not moved in last 4 days. 2lb this week off though, which is fine. I am getting a bit constipated, so am going to take magnesium this evening. I haven't had that stiff oesophagus feeling I had the day after my jab I normally get, so think I messed up with needle last night. There is some suppression I guess, but I might have to jab again at weekend if I did lose most of the dose last night and nothing has happened.

I am tired today though and am FREEZING. I see what people mean about being cold now. Fingers crossed there is a just bit of a delay with the effects of last night's injection. I won't be such a wally next time.

FlappyFish · 27/03/2024 11:23

If we are adding things we find helpful and not I don’t find it helpful people listing what they’re eating. That, to me, encourages competitive behaviour and undereating too.

But we cannot and should not police others posting. Weight loss and gain is emotive. I’ve said before and will again it is so much in our head. Though MJ has certainly shown that the biological side and hunger being turned off makes it infinitely complicated.

I have stopped posting as much as I don’t want to get drawn into who is doing this “right” and who is doing it “wrong.”

I have resolved the constipation issues. I’m not posting more on it as I don’t want to be told I’m doing it incorrectly.

Welcome to the new folk from someone who is coming up to jab 7 on Friday.

@Soukmyfalafel
I'm freezing too! When people had mentioned it I always assumed it was a result of eating lower calories which will make you cold but I only had my first injection yesterday and have eaten pretty normally but I am so cold this morning!
So, there must be something else to do with this medication rather than low calories.

Have been standing with my hands over the radiator to try and warm up and about to go put on a pair of slippers over my fluffy socks and a warmer dressing gown (working from home!)

peachgreen · 27/03/2024 11:35

I'm freezing too, ALL THE TIME.

Week five weigh in and another disappointing week for me. One pound off in the past fortnight!

I don't feel 'balanced' like I did in the first few weeks, if that makes sense. Do I need electrolytes? I haven't used them to date.

I am still very thrilled to have lost over a stone. The other vital thing is that with diets I always have a great start and then that stops and I give up. I am not doing that on MJ. I'll just keep swimming 👌🏻

SW: 13st 10
After 1 week: Feb 28th 13st 2 (- 8 pounds)
After 2 weeks: March 6th 12st 12 (- 4 pounds)
After 3 weeks: March 13th 12st 9 (-3 pounds)
After 4 weeks: March 20th 12st 9 (-0 pounds)
After 5 weeks: March 28th 12st 8 (-1 pounds)

Grand total: 16 pounds total loss (1st 2Ib)

That’s amazing in just 5 weeks, well done 😀
I have formed the routine of having an electrolyte water every morning when I get up and I’m sure it helps. Worth trying?

ObsidianTree · 27/03/2024 11:41

I have my electric bed warmer on my bed that I use nearly every night now! Also live in my oodie during the day!

Try the code birthday-spring that worked for me and made it £123 something

ObsidianTree · 27/03/2024 12:00

Was that for first time use only @Sulleybear? I'll try that one next month!

People on Facebook were saying there are always voucher codes for MedExpress. So every month I'm going to look for one to try and get a discount!

Today is the one year anniversary of me starting saxenda. I did four months on it, before it was out of stock everywhere, but managed over the remaining 8 months to continue losing without it. I've felt I've massively stalled now though so I've decided to try mounjaro to shed the last two stone.
SW 18.6 stone
CW 11.3 stone
GW 9.2 stone
I've gone from size 28 uk women's to now a 14 but I'm only 4ft 11 so I'm still kinda fat looking 😂. I'm very pleased with losing seven stone in a year but am determined to get this last two stone gone . Glad to find this thread

Soukmyfalafel · 27/03/2024 12:16

That's a great loss. We'll done for continuing without the Saxenda in those months too.

In terms of what people post, I am not too bothered. I quite like to see what people are eating and how they are losing, and am enjoying the meal ideas and seeing the positive stories. I don't really get competitive vibes at all. The only post I was annoyed about was the random scammy one asking for pictures of people's prescriptions.

I've picked up some great tips on dealing with side effects and what supplements to take on here. It also introduced taking MJ to me which I am thankful for, as I would have probably continued gaining and feeling very unhappy for it.

ObsidianTree · 27/03/2024 12:16

That is an amazing achievement @fatgirlthin88 . So inspirational for those with a lot to lose ☺️

Good luck getting those last two stones off on Mounjaro

I decided maybe I should keep an eye on my protein intake, so this thread is definitely helpful. Nutracheck is so much nicer to use than MyFitnessPal, it’s been a revelation! It actually has the food I eat in it and I don’t have to navigate all the self entries that may or may not be accurate.

Has anybody done a repeat order on MedExpress yet? I think I’m prevented from doing it until Friday, am I right that they don’t let you order early or have they actually run out?
