Husband dislikes my mother of the bride dress choices, am I wrong?

Husband hates the dresses I loved - mob btw! He says the colour is wrong, the shape doesn’t suit. I felt fantastic in them ☹️. Ditching dh isn’t an option. Are they awful or is he being unreasonable?

You can definitely do much better. Have you had your colours done? If not I'd suggest getting them done and that will really help work out what colours to go for. Navy is very safe for a spring wedding and the dresses you have picked are more suitable for autumn/winter weddings. Once you have worked out your beat colours make an appointment with a personal shopper and see what they come up with. You have a good figure and those dresses are consuming you.

Oh don't spend £700 on either dress! That's a brilliant budget and you can find something much, much better.

If you can, book a John Lewis personal stylist. You don't have to buy from there but they should be able to suggest some colours and shapes that will work brilliantly.

Can everyone who is posting here provide an option that they prefer for a city wedding in spring so OP gets some ideas of other options.

Just wanted to say to the OP that mother of the bride outfit is hard to get right. You have my sympathies. Agree with PP to look at non wedding websites like net a porter. I recall the mother of the groom at the recent Duke of Westminster’s wedding looked amazing in pink (dodgy hat though).

Think the colour is wrong on you, it looks very sombre!
Also the fit isn’t the most flattering as you have a lovely figure. Waist needs to be tighter on you, and the neckline/bust area isn’t as nice as it could be on you.

If you feel fantastic in it, then it is the right dress and nobody elses opinion matters. I feel like yiur husband should have read the room

It’s not well made and looks cheap.

Lighter blue says spring rather than navy, this one also has the bow at the back but a slightly shorter length.

You have a cracking figure OP, but that dress looks too big and too heavy and dark for your colouring. You look like you’re off to an Edwardian funeral instead of your daughter’s joyous wedding.

DH is right. They all actually look too big on you - maybe they may look better a size down.

I’d try lighter colours and maybe an A-line at the bottom. The hat is lovely though and would really suit your hair like that so a similar hat if you go for a different colour x

I bought a lovely navy dress but embroidered from Hobbs for DD’s wedding for a quarter of that, the best bit is I can actually wear it again. Still structured but has colour. Was baking hot so didn’t need a jacket but the great thing about an embroidered dress is you can pull out a colour for jacket and accessories if weather requires

I’m sure you’ve more than got the message now, OP, but I feel quite cross that someone has suggested/styled these for you (I presume you were being attended to, at those prices).

You can do so, so much better. I’d go Shibumi if you are fairly traditional (and even if you are not), and perhaps Kindred of Ireland if you are not. You’ll get colour, style and a memorable look.

I had a floor length silk embroidered coat from Shibumi for DD’s wedding, worn with a jumpsuit. And no hat. Fabulous.

You asked for honest opinions - my first thought was 'uh-oh, MIL doesn't like the SIL to be'.

Sorry OP but the colour is not one I'd wear to my daughters wedding, and I'd be gutted if my mum did. It's far, far too dark, whether it's navy or whatever else. I was looking at that same fascinator hat for my mothers funeral recently.

The outfit is fine and looks good on you, but not at all appropriate for a wedding imo. It looks more suitable for a funeral.

Oh and it may be hot if it’s spring so it will stick to you being dark and fitted- how about something like this….

They’re not great OP. You have a lovely figure but the dresses are heavy, matronly and sombre. The combination of colour and fabric is heavy and old-fashioned - if your heart is set on navy, something chiffony would feel more joyful and celebratory. I have no idea how old you are but both make you look like you ported in from the turn of the century, and not even this century.
