Husband dislikes my mother of the bride dress choices, am I wrong?

Husband hates the dresses I loved - mob btw! He says the colour is wrong, the shape doesn’t suit. I felt fantastic in them ☹️. Ditching dh isn’t an option. Are they awful or is he being unreasonable?

Sorry, I am with your husband, I don't think the shape is flattering on you.

First one is nice, very elegant, although maybe a bit big around the middle?
Second one is awful, just isn’t flattering.
It is quite a dark colour but i assume it has been approved by the bride?

What time of year is the wedding? Is it a city wedding or country style? You have a nice figure OP so could wear a lot of styles and this outfit gives Queen Mother vibes maybe?

Likeiloveyou · Yesterday 18:00

I’m not a fan, sorry.

Well black is not usually considered an appropriate choice for a wedding for starters.

user293948849167 · Yesterday 18:01

Ps I would swap the shoes for silver, and ditch the gloves

Peonies12 · Yesterday 18:02

What type of wedding and what time of year? Im not sure any of them are very flattering on you.

I think they are navy?

Cooldani · Yesterday 18:02

I don’t like the colour either, sorry OP.
I don’t like the shapes either, particularly the second one’s front aspect. I do like the pearl neckline at the back of the second, well the line of it…the pearls themselves are a bit wonky looking.

HoppityBun · Yesterday 18:02

I agree with your DH. Objectively, they are dress, but look like evening cocktail dresses, LBDs. In the UK, wedding dresses are bright and colourful whereas, even today, black is associated with mourning.

timtamsarebetterthanpenguins · Yesterday 18:02

Why have you gone for such a dark colour?

BeRoseSloth · Yesterday 18:02

One of them does make you look like a Pearly Queen. I’m with your husband.

Lightuptheroom · Yesterday 18:02

I don't like them, sorry with your husband on this (and I'm the first to ignore what my husband thinks about what I'm wearing) They both seem very dark and dowdy for a wedding?

BotterMon · Yesterday 18:03

Sorry am with your DH. Looks more funereal colour than a wedding. Neither do anything for you. You have a lovely figure; show it off.

BillieWiper · Yesterday 18:03

The one with the wonky fake pearls around the neckline is horrible. Ill fitting and poorly tailored. The first is nice. Is that wrap thing separate? The hat looks very old fashioned.

I'm sure you could find something better!

Choux · Yesterday 18:05

The first one seems a bit loose and too low on the waist. You might also benefit from a better bra. But the elegance of the outfit especially from the back is lovely!

The second seems a bit matronly. Not my favourite.

But most importantly what does your daughter think of the colour, style and fit?

thinkfast · Yesterday 18:06

I’m with your DH Op. I think you could do much better. These dresses are too dark for MOB and don’t fit you properly at the shoulders or stomach. The white gloves are a no from me too. They give French maid vibes. Sorry.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · Yesterday 18:06

First one is ok, second one is not a great shape on you. Post this (with the photos) on the Style & Beauty board and you'll get lots of suggestions

agri · Yesterday 18:07

unfortunately, I would say that they’re not flattering on you. Try some more on and add the pics here so we can rate them!

BoldBeans · Yesterday 18:07

They have quite an Edwardian vibe.

Biggles27 · Yesterday 18:08

Yes navy not black and the gloves are to protect the dresses 😂. Dh said he hated the gloves 😂

thank you - looks like we’re back to drawing board 😳

spring wedding, city centre (London)

I'm sorry but it looks frumpy

lemonyfox · Yesterday 18:09

First one is nice from behind I love the bow. Ditch the Mickey Mouse gloves though, respectfully.

zurigo · Yesterday 18:09

I'm with your DH - they look like evening dresses, not ones that you'd wear to a wedding. The one with the silver brocade around the neck is not a flattering shape and the sash looks weird.

Yes gloves are to protect dress - not worn by choice!!!!
