Husband dislikes my mother of the bride dress choices, am I wrong?

Husband hates the dresses I loved - mob btw! He says the colour is wrong, the shape doesn’t suit. I felt fantastic in them ☹️. Ditching dh isn’t an option. Are they awful or is he being unreasonable?

you have a nice figure and great hair. The colour is too dark for a Spring wedding and the dresses are not great cuts on you. Sorry

Pigginbeautiful · Yesterday 18:53

The back of the first dress looks lovely. The front is okay. The rest of them are awful. Sorry.

From the back of the first dress I’d say you were middle age. All other pictures you look like an OAP.

Hope this helps.

I like the first one but think you should try the size down!
I think it’s a gorgeous dress.

TokyoSushi · Yesterday 18:55

I’m pleased that you asked us OP, for that budget you can find something so much nicer, a spring wedding needs something much lighter and brighter.

WitcheryDivine · Yesterday 18:55

I am sure both the dresses are lovely but they’re both doing different weird things to your shoulders.

I’m wondering if you’re insecure about some aspect of your body because both of these are screaming “I’m hiding” but ironically I think the dark colour will really draw the eye in the photos.

ShanghaiDiva · Yesterday 18:56

no to the gloves
i love navy, but too dark for a spring wedding imo
my dm and mil wore navy to my wedding but it was September.
first dress is a little too long imo and is drowning you, I quite like the bow at the back
second one - no to the white trim

LBFseBrom · Yesterday 18:56

Too dark, looks funeeal.

A deep cherry red would be nice.

teraculum29 · Yesterday 18:56

Sorry OP,
it doesnt look right and are you going for a wedding or for funeral??

Crikeyalmighty · Yesterday 18:56

I quite like the first one but wonder if you could get a better fit - the back is lovely -

Amandatelly · Yesterday 18:57

not at all relevant but I’m really confused by the gloves. Who made you wear those and why do the dresses need protecting?

are they ultra high end or something? Even then, I can’t see what damage you could possibly do without gloves on. Is this a normal thing dress shops do?

I wasn’t asked to wear gloves when trying on very expensive wedding dresses (for fun, I could never have actually bought) and they don’t make you that in M&S.

What time of year is the wedding? Is it a city wedding or country style? You have a nice figure OP so could wear a lot of styles and this outfit gives Queen Mother vibes maybe?

exactly what i thought. Sorry OP and obvs you will wear what you choose but I am team DH on this one.

awaynboilyurheid · Yesterday 18:59

Team DH you can something soooo much nicer than this dreary dress!
You’ve got a lovely figure and it’s spring ditch that dress!

UnctuousUnicorns · Yesterday 18:59

I thought the pics were all of the same dress only with removable pearl trim and sash/bow for versatility. The colour looks like indigo on my screen which is lovely imo but not really suitable for a spring wedding as pp have said. Plus the dress swamps you, OP. Best of luck in finding something better fitting and more suited to your DD's wedding.

RisingSunn · Yesterday 19:00

I'm ith DH. Far too dark and too big in places.

peachesarenom · Yesterday 19:00

I love that they are designed to look interesting from the back too. I think the colour is too dark though and also please consider having the final dress tailored to fit. It makes a huge difference x

LooneyLiberalSpaceWaster · Yesterday 19:01

I like the first dress. I think its elegant and classic. I also love navy blue. But I think you need a better bra and maybe take the dress to a seamstress and get it altered to fit properly, then it will look fab on you.

As for lighter, brighter and more cheerful colours.....mmmm, wear which ever colour suits you. Not everyone can wear paler or lighter colours.....I can't, look like a corpse in pastels.

Vanillaicelatte · Yesterday 19:02

Choux · Yesterday 18:12

Is this the first dress? If so the fit is not as good on you. Did you try a smaller size?

if it is this dress you have a great budget so should be able to find something which you feel great in but also looks amazing on you.

690’ for that
i think it’s the sort of dress that can only look good if your tall & slim like the model

any one else it can just look like a sack

Barney16 · Yesterday 19:02

The back of the first one is great. I love that bow. With your budget I think you could find something beautiful that is a bit more springy. I love very dark colours but both dress are photographing as black. Which seems too much for a spring wedding. You have a lovely shape and I'm not sure that either of those dresses fit properly. Something shorter, more fitted and a lighter colour needed. As others have said go to S and B and give them your budget. They will find you the perfect dress.

Blodyneighbour · Yesterday 19:03

Team husband. I don't think MOB dresses should be black. But I bet you are glad you asked on her so you have time to change it. Keep it for a funeral.

WitcheryDivine · Yesterday 19:04

They’re both kind of giving me Edwardian theatrical costume. You can do better! Get a decent bra (go to bravissimo) first then shop again.

JoWilkinsonsno1fan · Yesterday 19:07

Sorry OP I am with your DH, you have a lovely figure and I think these dresses aren’t that flattering

Yetone · Yesterday 19:08

I agree with everyone else, that the dresses are too dark, especially for a spring wedding. Both dresses look too big on the shoulders. Ask your daughter to go dress shopping with you. Daughters can be quite objective.

Sam9769 · Yesterday 19:09

Why such dark colours? It's a wedding not a funeral!
Listen to your DH but pick a brighter lighter colour and you'll look fab!😀

usernamemustnotcontainspecialcharacters · Yesterday 19:09

Black???

searchforthesun · Yesterday 19:10

The second dress is awful, sorry.
the first one is ok but looks a bit big and the shoes are very dated.
I think you could find something much nicer.
