Amber snow warning for 9th and 10th March in the Pennines and Peak district.

I feel that this warrants it's own mini thread as it could be a pretty severe event. Blizzard conditions and snow up to 40cm over higher ground are possible. This could cut off isolated communities and lead to power cuts

Please do not take either the exact location of the amber warning, nor the timings as exact. If you live just outside the warning area, think of it like a fuzzy boundary, not a hard boundary.

If school finishes at 2:45pm, don't think that's ok, the warning doesn't start until 3pm. The area will already be under pressure from snow through the day with a yellow warning already in force. Don't be that person stuck in a drift somewhere!

Friday afternoon may see a partial thaw, but with freezing conditions overnight on Friday night, ice could be a real issue on Saturday morning.

Absolutely covered and still coming down in Bradford. School have sensibly decided to close today. Theres a fair few inches on the road so that will cause chaos later.
DD is unwell so apart from a quick walk to Morrisons for one of us, we are all home for the day!

How bad is it please? DC school is near Bradford and I'm trying to decide whether to send them in. (Of course, if the school bus isn't running, my decision will be made for me!).

West Yorkshire - still coming down, several inches accumulated. Sounds like the M62 near here has been awful overnight with people sitting for several hours.

@Poisoningpigeons bad, there are inches of snow on the ground and it’s still falling. The snows are covered because no one has driven over night.
Where near Bradford? I may be able to get more details for you.

Oh thank you, but not to worry! When the sky got a bit brighter, I had a really good look at the conditions where we are and thought "Bugger that, we're not going to be able to get out of Leeds let alone all the way to Bradford!" so I have declared a Snow Day.

DC are thrilled.

I live practically on the border and it’s bad. No commercial buses are running yet so I doubt school buses will try either.

Well Sheffield has had a bit more overnight, buses have stopped altogether and I can see the lights of people stuck on the road up the hill. Will pop out with a ruler in a bit.

Hoping the snow ploughs will be out again this morning.

Listening to the headlines on the radio. Zero about your snow. Which is just mad.

oh, now they are talking about it. But seriously? 5 minutes into the news?

It will clear out around 8am or so bringing temporary heavy snow to parts of the Midlands as it does so.

After it clears out, some strong sunshine to follow. Temperatures probably around 0c. The issue with this is, is that there will probably be a little melt. Followed by extreme cold tonight (below -7c for some) This will create ice issues and will make things incredibly tricky tomorrow morning.

Think you're right, the ice tonight will make the slushy wet snow quite treacherous through into tomorrow morning.

seeturtle where about are you? Im near Buxton and we are completely cut off! All roads shut, I’ve heard New Mills and above barely affected but it’s a serious issue here. Lots of drifting has made clearing and gritting useless in higher routes too 🥶

All bus services round here have been suspended, and the next three trains have been cancelled.

I'm in the SW and meant to be driving north to the Peak District for this weekend. My destination is near Carsington Water. I don't want to drive 4 hours plus then have to turn back! Or worse. Please can any locals tell me about the roads NE of Ashbourne? I see the A515 is closed but the traffic camera at Hulland Ward looks ok and I won't be arriving in the area until about 2pm if I do come.

Pennines here (Southern Yorkshire dales) and we have a fair few inches. Just under a foot maybe.

Snow plough hooray 🚜

I'm in the peak park and completely snowed in and cut off and the power cable is so heavy with snow I'm half expecting it to go down. And it's still snowing.

Snowplough came down our main road an hour ago maybe. The side roads still covered though.

Well I guess it's not London is it? London snow is the more exciting kind.
