Not quite January yet, but the weather warnings continue. Generally a mild outlook to come, though of course parts of Scotland will see more wintry weather on and off.

There was a decent squall that went through. Feisty is an excellent description!

Gusts over 80 KPH here tonight. Was very noisy, windows shaking,

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2023 09:08

I think we may get more squalls through today.

I wish this sodding rain would sod off! Every flipping day practically.

Would it be appropriate to ask about reservoirs? Are they actually filling up after all this rain? Someone I know walked a bit in the Pennines recently and said that 5 in a row were full - but that's the Pennines! What about other areas? Hope ok to ask here, just been concerned.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2023 14:20

That's a great question!
assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1124041/Water_Situation_Report_for_England_November_2022.pdf is the last full official summary. We should get Decembers update in about a week.

I don't think there would be many concerns left now, even in the south west where water was notably low in November. A good deal of the Severn is looking flood prone now.

No risk of drought at the moment. Some early rain warnings out for parts of Wales and the NW for Tuesday. Some spots could see 80-100mm of rain. Flooding is likely.

Thank you OYBBK! Much appreciated.

Bowednotbroken · 08/01/2023 16:04

What a fascinating set of data!

megletthesecond · 08/01/2023 16:05

I was just coming on here to mutter about reservoir levels. It's a bit much now.

Don't know about flooding in North Wales NRW haven't issued a warning. BUT there's talk of widespread snow the week after next and a big drop in temperature for us

You're welcome Bowed.

While there are hints of colder weather in the third week of January, there's nothing really tangible there in terms of risk yet.

Oh I hope it stays this way!

hoochyhag · 10/01/2023 17:19

Sick and tired of inside washing. Hoped to put it on the line to flap for a couple of hours tomorrow, but, no 😭

megletthesecond · 10/01/2023 18:35

Tomorrow's washing line plans have been scuppered. Rain is coming over Hampshire mid afternoon and I'll be in the office. Crossing my fingers for Friday now.

justasking111 · 10/01/2023 19:26

So much water 🙈 and the wind today. We've rain until Monday, then a bit of snow, then back to rain 🙈

hoochyhag · 10/01/2023 21:26

Yep Meglet 🤞 for Friday 🧺
I'd trade it all in for a bit of snow..

Could be something colder coming our way next week - Netweather's thoughts

BBC weather and ventusky agrees. Both giving snow Monday and Tuesday, not a lot though. But it's gonna be cold 🥶🥶

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2023 17:54

I was just coming on to say that. I'm crazy busy at present, but some of the models are showing something quite significant. I hope I can update properly tomorrow or Friday.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2023 21:43

In brief, it looks much more seasonal next week. Colder, with the potential for snow by Tuesday.

OP posts:
nomdegrrr1 · 11/01/2023 22:31

Thank you for updating us.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2023 07:41

No problem.
It still looks to get colder through this weekend into next week, but I'm afraid the unsettled theme continues.

As we go into next week, the risk of rain turning to snow transfers south, until by Tuesday or Wednesday, even southern England could be seeing snow showers at times.

Conditions remain marginal though for many, until later in the week perhaps when temperatures may drop further. With ground conditions being wet and warm, I'd expect any laying snow to be brief at best for most.

Thanks Kitten
I am dreading more snow but perhaps it won't be that bad this time.
