Not quite January yet, but the weather warnings continue. Generally a mild outlook to come, though of course parts of Scotland will see more wintry weather on and off.

I'm not sure whether it's just that the overnight rain was the straw that broke the camels back with regards to flooding, or whether it was unexpectedly heavy and/or prolonged.

Hopr everyone stays safe and as warm as possible today.

-1 and frosty with light snow shower currently on the Whitley Bay coast in NE England

Vintagevixen · 16/01/2023 08:40

Bad flash flooding where I am in Hastings - town centre, local park the pathways are rivers, loads of roads really bad and impassable

Igneococcus · 16/01/2023 08:41

It just started snowing in Argyll&Bute right by the coast.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2023 09:17

Snow and ice warnings out for northern England, parts of the Midlands, northern Wales and southern Scotland, for accumulating snow showers.

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2023-01-16

I do think the flooding in parts of the south was entirely underestimated, including by me.

The snow was meant to miss us in Bradford/Leeds. It’s coming down heavy and settling currently. Meant to stop in an hour but it’s just enough to cause chaos on the roads.

Vintagevixen · 16/01/2023 10:30

Absolute chaos here OYBBK - large parts of the town centre no power, shopping centre and loads of shops flooded. Local park basically a large lake. Fire engines pumping out everywhere. I moan every time I have to walk back up my hill home, but this morning I am VERY glad to be at the top.

But they did build a shopping centre on a flood plain in the 1990's - a stupid move even then...

BatshitCrazyWoman · 16/01/2023 11:25

It was snowing here on the London/Kent border first thing this morning. Turned to rain at about 7 am.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2023 11:39

That sounds very dramatic Vixen. I've got tonnes of work on at the moment, but I keep being distracted by reports about the chaos the weather has caused over the last 24 hours. Its very impressive considering it wasn't a named storm and looked not too dramatic yesterday.

A lake where a park should be and a flooded shopping centre 😬

Had a video from Farsley this morning, was coming down hard there

North Wales, cold brilliant sunshine. If you squint and blow up the picture you can see a bit of white on the hills above and behind the castle.

Was a sprinkling of snow overnight for Edinburgh, with low of -4C. Sun all day with a max 1C. Back below freezing now. Not sure why we didn't get into the ice warning area.

TokyoSushi · 16/01/2023 17:17

Bloomin freezing here in Cheshire, but apparently it's currently 1 degree. It's been a beautiful sparkling sunshine day here and we're in the yellow warning for snow tonight, but I don't think it'll amount to much!

colouringindoors · 16/01/2023 19:16

Veereeeery cold here in Chilterns, -3 already.

TokyoSushi · 16/01/2023 20:43

Snow in Cheshire!! Just a crazy 10 minutes that turned everywhere white, but better than nothing!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2023 21:15

I don't think I'll ever see snow again Sad

Please do take great care, black ice everywhere it has rained recently, which I think is pretty much everywhere.

I’ve just checked back through my photos. The last time I saw snow was 2 years ago. I don’t mind this level of snow - any more makes me grumpy!

You lucky thing, Tokyo...I think Grin
We're a bit further south than you and had nothing (yet)...hang on, going to peep thru the curtains...

CORRECTION - we have snow!!

It's bitter in the conservatory (5.9deg) - rule of thumb is deduct 4 and that's the outside temp, but I think all the lovely sun warming it to 22 this afternoon may have skewed things a bit. Grin

Gritters not moving yet 🤔link here if anyone is travelling near the Cheshire bit of the M6.

@OhYouBadBadKitten We could post you some, but I don't think it would arrive before it turned into a puddle.

nannynick · 16/01/2023 22:00

Proper snow. January 2010.

nannynick · 16/01/2023 22:04

Don't see snow like we did in 2010 where I am in Surrey. I remember driving in it, not fun, so on one hand I am glad we don't get snow like that but on the other hand, children stepping in it and it almost going over their boots made for great snow walks, snow balls, snowmen and igloo building.

EmmaEmerald · 16/01/2023 22:07

I still remember the utter misery of that snow dump of 2010. Our boss made it worse by being angry about anyone who was late to work. (What we did was not remotely time critical).

TokyoSushi · 16/01/2023 22:11

I was newly first time pregnant in that 2010 snow which just added to the excitement!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2023 22:17

2010 was the best!

Still there's plenty of winter left yet.
