Not quite January yet, but the weather warnings continue. Generally a mild outlook to come, though of course parts of Scotland will see more wintry weather on and off.

Still no snow here but surprisingly windy last night. Quite a few trees down.

GloriaSmud · 10/03/2023 08:44

We've got schools closed and buses not running at the moment. Main roads are just about OK and everyone's taking it very slowly.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 10/03/2023 09:06

Just incredibly wet and rainy here in central London. I was WFH yesterday and it poured with rain all day. It's very cold, and quite windy, too.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 10/03/2023 16:08

BBC forecast is saying -8 overnight in Leicester tonight. That can't be right can it? I can't remember ever seeing it that low for Leicester.

GloriaSmud · 11/03/2023 06:56

FatAgainItsLettuceTime BBC were giving me -6C overnight for my part of Leicester. Metoffice said -2C and my weather station is saying -2C as well. I don't think the BBC does very well these days.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/03/2023 07:55

Must have been way off because the bird bath hasnt frozen which it did when we had the week of -3 nights in December.

Bowednotbroken · 11/03/2023 08:17

I agree Gloria! BBC said -12 here last night, Met office said minus 5. Quite a difference!

crosspusscrossstitcher · 11/03/2023 09:01

BBC couldn't get the temperature right if they were looking at the thermometer. Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2023 09:30

Part of the difficulty in forecasting temperatures is that they don't generally take into account where snow is already lying. Snow cover affects temperature hugely.

I was quite startled when I checked the BBC Weather app last night and it read -6 (Lincolnshire). Before my eyes it changed to 21, then I realised it must be cycling between C and F! Still doing it this morning, not sure if it's a BBC glitch or me. On either scale, though, it really wasn't as cold as they said.

This is so true. Their current weather is often woefully inaccurate where I am, let alone the forecast.

justasking111 · 11/03/2023 14:54

Snowing here again. North Wales. It won't last though.

Notonthestairs · 12/03/2023 11:07

Just wanted to say a thank you to YBBK and Gloria for all their information and explanations over the last week. Really helped me plan my travels and nudge a few family members when they were planning theirs. BrewFlowers

Notonthestairs · 12/03/2023 11:08

And now can we just get on with spring? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2023 13:14

You're more than welcome Not Smile

Tomorrow in the south it's going to be very blowy, with near gales. I expect this might take down the odd tired tree here and there. A proper March day.

Another thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten and @GloriaSmud for all your info….. helps massively when dealing with elderlies reliant in carers. 🌺🌺

nannynick · 12/03/2023 17:27

Windsor Great Park has announced that their carparks are closed tomorrow due to the expected wind.

I was planning on walking through the country park tomorrow but maybe that is unwise, lots of tall trees.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/03/2023 17:33

A lovely day for flying back to the U.K. then?

Every time.

Oh no Rafa, safe flight!

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2023-03-13 snow and ice warnings for much of the north tomorrow and Tuesday.

Sorry for the lack of advance warning, I was feeling a bit snow warninged out. Clearly not a time to be slacking off the job!

Here's a screenshot of the warnings areas. 3 of them. Click on your region for timings. Middle warning is for tomorrow in general, the north and south warnings are for tomorrow evening onwards.

Oh gosh thesandwich and Notonthestairs Blush
And yes Notonthestairs - could do with some Spring-type weather now!

BiddyPop · 12/03/2023 20:38

What I learned yesterday is that y "waterproof" gear is not waterproof. But the forecast for rain was painfully accurate....as i found when I took my Cubs hiking!

It has distinctly warmed up in Dublin today though - I don't know exact temps but it was warm enough for back door to open for a good while, but still chill enough this evening to enjoy a fire in the stove.

justasking111 · 12/03/2023 22:06

@BiddyPop . Welded seams for waterproof as I discovered when I started sailing to impress a boyfriend 🙈😂😂
