Not quite January yet, but the weather warnings continue. Generally a mild outlook to come, though of course parts of Scotland will see more wintry weather on and off.

Amber here too for tomorrow. West Yorkshire. Keep safe and warm. Careful on the roads.

justasking111 · 08/03/2023 15:05

Two hours of flurries, tiny snowflakes nothing settling in North Wales on the coast

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/03/2023 15:05

Here is the amber warning. www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2023-03-09

If you are in it, or close to it, then this is the time to work out your plan. Don't expect to travel in it. Be ready for power cuts. There may be a time of melt on Friday afternoon followed by sub zero temperatures, leading to issues with ice on Saturday morning. The thaw should be well underway on Sunday, so no need to stock for weeks worth of supplies but be ready for a few days of tricky conditions if you live in an isolated area.

@WhatCanWeDoNext no grit here either, we weren’t forcast to get any until tomorrow morning. Now it is showing that it’s going to snow until Friday afternoon.

WhatCanWeDoNext · 08/03/2023 16:09

@ListenLinda I expect there’ll be a frantic scramble to grit the major roads before it freezes overnight.

Hope everyone stays safe.

ListenLinda · 08/03/2023 16:14

bradford council usually post when they will be gritting. I expect they planned to do it later as they would with temperatures so low, but the snow surprised them.

The only person who needs to leave the house tomorrow is DD for school, and school pick up time is when the amber warning starts. Not sure whether to send her if open and collect her at 2.30pm before the amber warning starts.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/03/2023 17:24

I would not take that amber warning start time as gospel. They aren't absolute fixed entities. You will have been under a yellow warning with the potential for heavy snow several hours before that.

Unless things change tomorrow morning or if she lives very local to the school, I would be keeping her at home. I certainly wouldn't risk past lunch time in any case.

I would hope that schools would close. Their staff will need to get home safely.

I've started a specific thread for the amber warning.

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten 🙏❄️

BiddyPop · 08/03/2023 17:58

Dh has suddenly got really worried (although surprises I am already here!) that I won't get home tomorrow from Brussels to Dublin.

TBH it's colder (and a lot wetter!) here than home. I have grippy runners and some layers. But might need an extra trousers/jumper if I have to stay (Brussels has shops though).

Flight home due to land shortly before 8pm tomorrow.

Am I living in denial☀️🛬, or is DH potentially right❄️❄️⛄️?

Or is it one of those - it depends - scenarios?! 🫣

GloriaSmud · 08/03/2023 18:27

BiddyPop Think you'll be OK - if anything Dublin's looking more wet than white!

After a day of hours of snow with nothing settling, we've now got a slight covering here (Leicester)

BestIsWest · 08/03/2023 18:48

Rain chucking it down here now in S. W. Wales

ListenLinda · 08/03/2023 18:52

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten - we are a 5-10 minute drive or a 30 min walk from school.

hoping they close but the are in the middle of a two day ofsted inspection so probably not likely.

ListenLinda · 08/03/2023 18:53

And my parents are due to land at LBA at 7pm tomorrow - i’ve told them pack spare undies and a toothbrush in their hand luggage as they may delayed or diverted to another airport!

BiddyPop · 08/03/2023 19:02

Thanks Gloria - he has a habit of not being prepared for things at all and then "don't panic Mr Mannering" reactions...🙄

But I already had the spare socks and undies sorted just in case and it doesn't look noticeably worse (now that I'm back in WiFi zone and looked at actual forecast) than when I'd checked this morning!

BiddyPop · 08/03/2023 19:03

Good luck, and I hope it's enjoyable rather than bothersome for all those who have seen it!

Ricco12 · 08/03/2023 21:55

I'm in Preston and need to get to just below Birmingham about 2 hours drive

I'm hoping the road are ok tomorrow

I'm from NE Scotland so used to driving in it and I have snow tyres on my car but I'm worried about how people down here will cope if it's bad and they not used to it

Will the roads grind to a halt or are they good at keeping things moving.

I woke this morning to our village blocked with 4ft snow drifts but my 9am the tractor ploughs had been out and cleared them. But we are used to it , so it's generally not too bad delays.

Perihelion · 08/03/2023 22:20

Finally

Perihelion · 08/03/2023 22:21

Oops forgot pic 🤣

Grin that's great Peri. Proper snow!

GloriaSmud · 09/03/2023 06:58

We had about 5cms here (Leicester) before the snow stopped late last night and the roads (even side roads) are clear. But it's (lightly) snowing at the moment and supposed to last most of the morning so maybe a bit more to come.

ListenLinda · 09/03/2023 07:03

Lightly snowing here in Brad/West Yorkshire.
the heavy stuff is predicted to come from 9am on wards.

TokyoSushi · 09/03/2023 07:21

Nothing at all here in Cheshire, boo!
