Something to really watch. GFS model is really looking a bit crackers next week with high temps of perhaps 35c mid week and night minima in the mid 20s. I'll post more tomorrow, but it doesn't look like the traditional school holiday cool down

Hello OYBBK, thanks for all you do, love these threads so much. But we're in Birmingham and are having a party on Saturday starting at lunch time.... Do I prepare for rain? Or will we be OK outside?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 15:57

Don GFS shows some rain clearing, but the Met Office actually show a pretty low chance of rain. I think you'll be ok, but there is a risk. Pleasant temperatures though, around 20c or so.

Nothing this side of Manchester yet, there have been a couple of dots on the app to the north of us in the last 5 minutes, but not looking likely here at the moment - just high cloud.

DS1 is referring a football match to the south of Manchester tonight - I'm a tad concerned re safety.

SkelterHelter · 25/07/2019 16:03

Thank you OYBBK. Your weather threads are always really interesting. And a couple of positives, the washing dries in minutes and the sun makes all the white washing mega white!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 16:14

That's very true! And even if it thunderstorms all over your washing it doesn't matter cos it will still dry.

Cambridge at 38.1c, only the second time we've ever gone over 100F in the UK.

Thankyou OYBBK, will plough on with the plan of doing it all outside! There's always a risk in my mind... Were in the UK after all! So gazebos at the ready!

My Australian but lives in the UK BIL totally understands our obsession with the weather now...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 16:18

That's what I'd do Don.

The German all-time record went yesterday already but has been topped today. Somewhere over in the west recorded 40.9. (I think official confirmation is still to come).

It only hit 35 where I am and has now dropped to 34.

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/07/2019 16:20

Well, there is less heat glare coming from my kitchen blinds with their new makeshift linings. I need to sew them properly and get some proper net curtain wire. I shall use in summer and winter for extra insulation.

Cerealkillers · 25/07/2019 16:21

Thanks for the updates OYBBK I feel as though I’ve survived the worst 😁 Anxiety is reducing as no matter what happens tomorrow it can’t be as bad as today.

Been giving water to any delivery drivers/postwoman & bin men for the last few days & was amazed people in our area at least rarely think to do this?

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/07/2019 16:23

Kitchen has reached 30. It has been up to 32 before, 40+ in the sun from the window if no blinds. We did one summer without curtains. That was awful.

Skyejuly · 25/07/2019 16:24

Same as above I been out with cold drinks. Also gave lollies to the men working on roadworks up the road. I dont think I can handle a hot night. I feel like i am over reacting but this is hideous

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 16:24

Yay Cereal, you've done it Grin Next time you'll know that you can do this and that you'll be ok. Not only that, but you've thought of others too.

Good job Blackeyed!

My pond looks much better. I'm a bit muddy now, but figure that hippos find mud helps, so I'm plonked in the shade.

Cereal, that’s great you’re feeling better.

Re water, yes one of my friends did that and the guy said no one offers water to them! Bit rubbish. I was wondering how the postie coped today.

YesQueen · 25/07/2019 16:33

Thunder here and some giant drops of rain (Lancashire)

nannynick · 25/07/2019 16:45

Came through Bracknell half an hour ago and car was showing 39 degrees. Was lovely being inside the air conditioned car but now I am home it's not nice... inside is near 28 degrees, outside is around 35.
My nearest WeatherUnderground station is reporting 34 degrees.
Lets hope it does start to cool down.

CatteStreet · 25/07/2019 16:50

Need to update my post above. New German record is now apparently 42.0. Shock

PickAChew · 25/07/2019 16:51

@BlackeyedGruesome that's what gets me about people who build their houses with massive picture/feature windows with no curtains or blinds. Unless they're north facing they must either make the house far too hot in summer or dazzle you the rest of the year, when the sun is low in the sky.

YesQueen · 25/07/2019 16:53

Ok we just had the worst loudest rain I have ever heard for about 10-15 mins
And guess who left her car windows open HmmBlushGrin

nannynick · 25/07/2019 17:29

For those in Eastbourne... storm coming in. I wonder how far inland that storm will travel. Real Time Lightning Map

magimedi · 25/07/2019 17:37

Waves to Nanny - just starting - heavy rain & a big clap of thunder

nannynick · 25/07/2019 17:38

magimedi Is it helping cool things down?
