Something to really watch. GFS model is really looking a bit crackers next week with high temps of perhaps 35c mid week and night minima in the mid 20s. I'll post more tomorrow, but it doesn't look like the traditional school holiday cool down

I’ve wetted the patio for the second time today, and I have also hung a damp duvet cover over the back door. It’s 34c here but the kitchen is staying around 26c, I have brought all my Guinea pigs inside and they are doing OK with ice pods, dogs are flaked out on cool mats with fan on living room. Literally too hot to move 🥵😩

Iggly · 25/07/2019 13:59

It’s got very humid and clouds are gathering here in Sussex,; it’s clouded over.

I’m really hoping for rain 😭

tapdancingmum · 25/07/2019 14:08

Thermometer in the shade is reading 38. Thermometer is the sun is reading over 48! I'm eyeing up the kids paddling pool and thinking about going in 😀 Hope the storms come earlier as I slept through the last lot.

magimedi · 25/07/2019 14:14

Temp has dropped to 30.5. Very overcast here now & still but the odd short gust of wind.

Have just had a lovely half hour snooze & am wondering if I will get a swim later or will it be too stormy to go to the beach.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 14:20

We've reached 36c now. I've decided it's a good day for working on the pond. Came in for a brief pause when I realised I was dripping sweat into it.

Suddenly started raining here!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 14:22

July record has gone 36.9c at Heathrow. Somewhat west of where the hottest temps were originally forecast.

It was 46° in our garden earlier. If you think it's bad in England, spare a thought for those of us in France!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 14:27

Was that a properly screened thermometer Skelter?

Not a cloud in the sky in Suffolk. Its the most oppressive heat I've ever experienced.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 14:30

37.2 at Heathrow now. Reached average human body temperature.

Just rained really hard for two mins in Beds. It is now hotter and the sky is less cloudy. Too darn hot.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/07/2019 14:41

It’s clouded over here now.

SkelterHelter · 25/07/2019 14:42

Just a normal garden thermomete OYBBK. We've had no rain for ages (other than one brief overnight shower) and many plants in the garden are dying, including Mediterranean herbs. Anyone working outside has had their hours changed so they start really early and finish for the day at lunchtime. We aren't allowed to water the garden, even with a watering can, no filling of paddling pools, and even watering of crops is now banned,. Everyone is staying indoors with all windows and shutters closed. There is talk of water supplies being rationed but the forecast is rain soon hurray, so hopefully it won't come to that. It

On the subject of aircon by the way, we have two portable units. One is 15 years old and works like a dream although I suspect it would be outlawed now for its electricity guzzling and its general all round unenvironmental goodness.the other is about 5 years old and is pathetic. It has been in since 8 am and the temperature in that room has gone up. It really does not work above about 26 degrees. The other one does not work as well at very high temps but does try harder! Keeping a close eye on my fridge freezer. It's DS1s 18th tomorrow do am definitely hoping it cools down by 10 degrees!

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/07/2019 15:06

Hazy sun. Light clouds. Thunder risk removed from forecast and temp forecast 34 again.

I have just siestaed and woken hot and sweaty.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 15:08

The water situation sounds really serious Helter I hope it rains soon.

I’m ridiculously excited that the forecast has changed and it’s now saying storms at 7pm! (SE)

BestIsWest · 25/07/2019 15:20

36 and cloudy in the Barbican area.

Sallycinnamum · 25/07/2019 15:29

We have some menacing clouds bubbling up here east of London. I am praying it's a storm to break this intolerable heat.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 15:30

See www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/3619099-Thunderstorm-watch-summer-2019 for info about storms today.
I can't work out which thread to update or both?!

RosaWaiting · 25/07/2019 15:33

ooh I hope it is clouds, as I said, my North London forecast moved the storms to later not earlier!

Kitten, we are happy for updates wherever you find it handy, really appreciate this.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 15:44

It's so nice to have the time for once to be able to do this properly. It's been ages since my time off coincided with interesting weather.

Think temps are beginning to stall or drop slightly now. My station has reached its peak and we are probably at 5/8 altocumulus coverage now.
