How is winter looking?

Will it be properly cold?
Will there actually be a frost?
I've not had the winter duvet out in an age, just didn't need it last winter.

Kitten I'm excited about yours and Gloria's SNOW WATCH ❄❄❄❄

DesolateWaist · 29/11/2016 20:20

I didn't run.
I think when my alarm went off my words were 'fuck that shit' and I went back to bed.

We hit the dizzy heights of 4.1C at 1.37pm this afternoon and then the temperature dropped quickly and was down to below freezing by 5.30pm. 'Tis already -2.4C, could be a colder night than last night.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2016 21:26

I'm really glad that Gloria is here too :) nowadays I often get snowed under with work Grin

GloriaSmud · 30/11/2016 09:28

Aww Blush
I've been a bit lax when it comes contributing to the 'MN Weather Department' over the last few months but should be OK for the winter ~ funnily enough, going to work on an allotment doesn't appeal as much now as it does in the summer!

We've been down to -3.9C overnight and it's still -1.5C now. 'Tis another beautiful morning though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2016 10:05

It's a beautiful morning here too :) but -7C was maybe a bit too cold. I can feel it seeping into the kitchen. brrrr. It will warm a little tomorow, but with it more cloud for many.

Loving this cold crisp weather. We have friends over from Southern Italy next week. They are desperate to see snow, any chance at all? We're not far from the Peak District.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2016 15:35

forty, depending on your elevation, just about possibly, gfs shows a weather front coming in on wednesday, with a lot of rain, temps in temps in mid single digits around your area, could turn to snow over higher ground. Plenty of time for it to change, but its been showing this fairly consistently for a few runs.

Atlantic does seem to make headway though next week :(

megletthesecond · 30/11/2016 16:51

I'd forgotten how pretty the evening sky is on cold days like this. Beautiful pinky amber sunset and I think Venus is in the south west?

My winter depression lifts a bit on bright days. I think that's why I like the snow.

fortyfourfeasts · 30/11/2016 21:58

Lovely. Will keep fingers crossed!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 01/12/2016 07:51

I am loving the cold weather, everything sparkles! I hope it lasts and this winter is a proper snowy winter.

Posselhoof · 01/12/2016 07:54

This is the coldest it's been in November /dec for years in London. I love it!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2016 10:07

gfs is having a laugh. All change next week still, back to wet and mild. No real chance of snow. But after that things may resume back to cold for the second half of December.

fortyfourfeasts · 01/12/2016 18:18

Awwwww Sad

oldlaundbooth · 01/12/2016 18:28

Crappy weather here in Canada. No real snow, it's foggy, wet and miserable, about 4 degrees. Colder and sunny next week though🍵☕

oldlaundbooth · 01/12/2016 18:28

Not sure what that green thing is: soup?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2016 18:46

pea soup!

GloriaSmud · 02/12/2016 10:07

Hopefully if it happens, next weeks milder weather is just a blip

Perihelion · 03/12/2016 13:11

Ah bollocks, just looked at the forecast for DD's outdoor residential next week in Argyll....Wed and Thurs are warmish, proper wet and windy. I think cold and dry would have been better.
Am still trying to figure out how to pack all the clothes on the minimum amount required list ( a fuckton ) with the directive that children must be able to carry their own bag.......If anyone has a self levitating tardis bag, can I borrow it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/12/2016 09:47

perihelion, only solution is to make her wear it all!

or alternatively accept that she probably won't change her clothing once, not even underwear or brush her teeth or use a towel - or is that just my experience of school trips? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/12/2016 10:02

gfs operational run looks mild for the next 10 days and at times rather wet - I think it is rather overegging the pudding with rain at times.

I've had a glance at what weather forums are saying for some reassurance for later on this month and there are still signs that things will switch back again to cold mid month, perhaps a little later.

Interestingly, wednesday now looks dry for most of england in the day time, so gfs modeled that wrong.

GloriaSmud · 04/12/2016 10:26

Perihelion - OYBBK speaks sense. Get your DD to wear it all, she'll look like 'The Michelin Man' but will be covered for all weather and it'll be less to carry. Then when she gets home, you can roll the whole lot, your DD as well, into the washing machine.

Netweather have done a winter weather forecast here. The detail is amazing - not sure I understand a lot of it though!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/12/2016 08:35

I need to set aside some time for that Gloria, theyve certainly listed a lot of factors to look at!!

GFS is struggling for sure - wednesday's rain doesnt happen for most now, just for some nw areas. A little bit of rain or showers for many on thursday. Friday looking perhaps wet for many in Scotland.

Hints of things cooling down after mid month. But until then things are going to get a lot milder.

digerd · 05/12/2016 19:47

Did somebody say "pea soup?".
I remember our last real pea soup fog in south London in 1962. Real eerie it was with no traffic, visibility or sounds and the fog really was green. Think it was November and then we had snow and ice until April 1963.

Last week our lowest night temperature was -4.5 with a clear sky in South Herts.
Tonight is a little misty so feels colder than the +1.7 due to the damp cold.

TV forecast for SE is mild, wet and windyConfused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/12/2016 21:32

we haven't had proper proper fog for a long time round here.
met office fog warnings for freezing fog - the one weather condition I really don't like - it's all danger and no fun.
