How is winter looking?

Will it be properly cold?
Will there actually be a frost?
I've not had the winter duvet out in an age, just didn't need it last winter.

DS voluntarily wore a hoodie under his blazer today. Shock

DD is still refusing to wear tights and went off to school with ankle socks and a skirt that is about 3 inches above her knees. She might be a bit chilly later! ( she was wearing a coat though)!

I've put washing on the line this morning and its now frozen stiff!

Very cold and grey here. Currently -1

ImpYCelyn · 08/11/2016 11:56

Well it's pretty cold in SE London, car was showing 5* at 9.30 ish. I know that's a lot warmer than many, but I think people generally say we're about 5 degrees above most places. So definitely indicates freezing temps for many on the way.

GloriaSmud · 08/11/2016 16:39

Looks like snow reports are beginning to come in on uksnow Map.

BiddyPop · 08/11/2016 17:02

It was 6 degrees this morning in Dublin, so warmer than yesterday - and it started raining at about 9am, and is a slow drizzly rain all day so far......ugh Xmas Sad

Lidlfix · 08/11/2016 20:08

First sleety flakes here, not too high up in urban Central Scotland Grin

Perihelion · 11/11/2016 15:58

Snow on the Ochils today and our first proper frost this morning. We're warming up a bit from tomorrow though.

notsomanky · 15/11/2016 17:36

It was mild this morning on the way to work but chilly on the way home.

Does anyone know what the winter for the UK was like the last time the Pacific Northwest had such a strong Pineapple Express? I know from looking at the National Park webcams the slopes there are remarkably short of snow for this time of year.

Was this the same in 2010?

notsomanky · 18/11/2016 10:06

Snow falling thick and fast here in Manchester.

So far this morning we have had rain, hail, sleet, snow and Thunder Snow!

The ground is very wet so the snow is only just beginning to lie, and I can't see it lasting.

BiddyPop · 18/11/2016 10:40

It was 4.5 degrees this morning and there is snow on the hills just outside the city, but none lower down. Apparently there is snow in Cavan though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/11/2016 11:29

not sure Manky! I've not heard the term pineapple express before!

Grin

All I know is that its a weather pattern/front that originates in the pacific near Hawaii and carries warm moist air to the pacific coast of America.

Apparently it caused mayhem one year when the Winter Olympics were in the area - not a lot of snow about!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/11/2016 13:43

interesting!!

leesmum · 18/11/2016 20:41

Manky did you hear that huge clap of thunder this morning, about 6.45am....scared the life out of us all!!!

Whisky2014 · 18/11/2016 20:45

Im in NE Scotland. We had thick ice on our windows this am and it was -2. This time last year, it was mild. I think its going to be a harsh winter

notsomanky · 19/11/2016 07:56

Leesmum We did !

It made us jump too.

InMySpareTime · 19/11/2016 08:07

No snow down in Trafford, just lots of hail and thunder.

SilverGiraffe7 · 19/11/2016 08:23

From met office long range:
"Temperatures are likely to vary between mild and rather cold.."
Well that's all sorted then....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/11/2016 08:55

that's called weather silver Grin

GloriaSmud · 19/11/2016 09:51

"Temperatures are likely to vary between mild and rather cold.."

Covers all temperatures that we get in winter.....
and spring....
and summer.....
and autumn.

Hard frost this morning in Fife and very cold.

AbiBranning · 19/11/2016 11:43

Proper frost in Berkshire, but looks like a stormy night ahead. I panic bought Prosecco on my way home this morning. I don't think I've got the stockpiling quite rightGrin

Perihelion · 19/11/2016 19:58

Aye proper frost in Fife. Frost still on the beach at Kingsbarns in the afternoon.

ImpYCelyn · 19/11/2016 20:11

Had to scrape the car in SE London this am. Car said 2* at 9am.

And a big storm to look forward to tonight. Wish I'd stockpiled prosecco! (Ignoring the 38 week bump...)

SideOrderofChip · 19/11/2016 21:25

Love it when the met office hedges its bets!

Here in Jersey we are on a red wind warning for a F9 gale. its lashing down and wind is screaming around the house

AbiBranning · 19/11/2016 21:44

Imp, I'll raise a glass to you and bump. Good luck such an exciting time - enjoy.
