How is winter looking?

Will it be properly cold?
Will there actually be a frost?
I've not had the winter duvet out in an age, just didn't need it last winter.

Apologies SideOrder ~ 6-7C overnight for you and 8-10C daytime. There aren't any signs though of it getting warmer. 'Tis a long way into the future but it's looking gradually colder through next week so that's a plus if you want more 'winter-type' temperatures.

RatOnnaStick · 28/11/2016 14:32

Ds has forest school tomorrow. He'll be thrilled, loves it the colder the better.

Is it too early to think about Christmas weather yet?

megletthesecond · 28/11/2016 14:32

How cold?! BBC have forecast -7 for Hampshire tonight. 🐧

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2016 14:39

Met office have issued their next contingency planners forecast. Remember this is aimed at local authorities and the such like so they can try and plan. It is done on probabilities of different scenarios, so they can't say it will be cold.

However they are saying it is more likely to be a colder and drier than average start to winter. Certainly looks very dry out to mid december. And obviously cold at times like tonight. brrrr......

My Christmas forecast will start in 10 days time.....

PestoSwimissimos · 28/11/2016 14:45

I shall await your Christmas forecast with eager anticipation Kitten Xmas Grin

PatMullins · 28/11/2016 14:56

Lowest is 0 here tonight (south east)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2016 15:29

so will I pesto Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2016 15:31

Meglet, I think that might be overdoing it a bit, I'd estimate about -4C. Tomorrow night colder.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2016 15:34

An extremely strong statement from the met office about December in that temperature prediction. "Therefore, the right-hand graph of figure T2 does not tell the whole story and it should be
emphasised that in the first part of winter the risk of cold weather impacts is considerably
higher than normal. "

Christmas forecast will start in 10 days time.....

I've put a reminder in my google calendar to check the weather topic on Dec 8th...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2016 20:53

oh cripes!!

WordWeasel · 28/11/2016 20:58

Cold but dry? So no snow, then. Sad

StairsInTheNight · 28/11/2016 21:01

Oh, trying not to get my hopes up. Looking forward to your Christmas forecast OYBBK 🤗🤗

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2016 21:18

less chance wordweasel, but drier doesn't necessarily mean dry. Hopefully!

magimedi · 28/11/2016 21:46

Dry is WONDERFUL!!

No snow would make me v.v.v. happy!

megletthesecond · 28/11/2016 21:54

Dry is good. I'm getting lots of laundry on the line.

DesolateWaist · 28/11/2016 23:34

This had fallen off the thread I'm on.

Anyway. It seems it's -1 here now. That's better. Although I should be going for a run at 6.30am.....might change my mind.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 29/11/2016 06:29

-2.8C here at the moment.

exLtEveDallas · 29/11/2016 06:48

I reckon I can accurately predict snow for Xmas (in Worcestershire at least)

We've booked a holiday. Off to sunny Egypt.

DD has said "I can't wait to go, but if it snows while we are away I'll never forgive you"

DH said "I wonder if I should get more wood? We'll probably be OK till January, well, unless it snows or something"

So. Going on my luck at the moment. It'll be snowmaggeddon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2016 07:09

-5c here. Quite cold!
I'm a bit worried about the potential for freezing fog tonight :(

RatOnnaStick · 29/11/2016 07:35

A comfortable 0° here in Kent. Nice and bright and clear.

basketofironing · 29/11/2016 07:40

Lowest it got overnight here in Essex was -2.5. Our privet hedge has a nice coating of frost, which I have never seen in the four years we have lived here.

Whilst I'm on this thread, any forecasts for the southwest/Cotswolds area next week? Off to escape there for a few days and trying to decide just how cold to pack for.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2016 08:28

Looks dry, with frosts over night and temps up to around 6 or 7 in the day time at the moment. It's possible that this high pressure will draw in damp air, making it less cold at night and simply gloomy and grey and cooler in the day time though.

PestoFrostissimos · 29/11/2016 09:59

Lovely crisp & cold bright sunshiney day down here on the South Coast near Brighton Xmas Smile

basketofironing · 29/11/2016 16:43

Thanks Kitten. Need to go out and buy a decent winter hat then.
