...Anyone else's heart sink at heatwaves?!

Agh! Just looked at the weather app and next week looks like hell! On Tuesday, when we have a big event and I'll be running everywhere and driving for hours, it'll be over 30

Every bloody heatwave I get sick, moody, and then also don't sleep for weeks. Every time! No idea why. I dread them

Me too. I'm terrible with heat and I'm packing to move house at the moment so it's not like I can sit in the shade sipping cool drinks. In fact I've to go up and do the attic now, which will having me sweating buckets in minutes because it's like an oven up there.

At least the kids are out playing and therefore not under my feet and unpacking everything I manage to pack trying to help.

I'm not built for the heat either. I get far too hot, headachey, irritable and itchy. Then I get prickly heat (oh joy). As if that wasn't bad enough, people insist on trying to drag me outside so I can "make the most of the weather". It isn't my fault the sun makes me feel like shit, so stop going on like I'm some sort of loon for not wanting to sit in it all day long.

Heat + humidity + still air = flying ants. I hate them. We've had to have the pest controllers out because they were all crawling out of the skirting boards and one buzzed past my ear the other day. They take over our house every summer and I hate it.

Another one here whose heart sank when I checked next week's weather app. I had said I would meet Dd1 in London on Tuesday but have apologetically texted her to ask if she minds if I don't! I would never cope in that heat and the thought of the Tube makes me feel ill. I plan to do at little as possible until Thursday morning which looks cooler again. the weatherman irritated me too this morning my saying 'make the most of it folks as its only a five-day heatwave' or words to that effect. Not everyone enjoys the heat. I have loved this summer so far because it's been a cool one which means I can still function, and get things done!

Yes! It's too hot to sit outside, I have to put suncream on my DS which you would swear was like rubbing him over with hot coals, I have The Battle of The Sunhat every 4.5 seconds, I go from porcelain white with a hint of blue to cooked lobster in 3.5 minutes, I don't know what to eat because salad and ice-cream isn't a meal, and I have a whopping pregnant belly.

Roll on autumn and wooly tights with boots, quiet beaches and steamed puddings.

But my heart goes out to any of you in cities, especially if you commute by public transport, because IMO that's 10 times worse.

Move to Scotland. You'll get a heatwave once every 25 years or so.

Hate it. I feel physically sick when it's too hot. I can't go outside, I just want to lie in the house feeling crap.

Luckily I've just got the air con on my car topped up so at least commuting won't be too bad.

I lived in 36C countries for years...

There are tricks:

• only wear loose fitting (not baggy, just not tight) clothes in natural fibres (cotton, silk, linen or viscose/rayon are all non-sweaty)
• run cold water over your wrists every once in a while, it really cools you.
• drink plenty of liquids, room temperature is best.
• wear your hair up or tied back

Wow, it's been warm for one morning, finally and you're all moaning already.

Not warm here yet thank goodness (nw). I just can't function in it. Makes me feel sick and dizzy from about 22 degrees upwards.

I am so, so glad to see I'm not alone. My FB feed is full of people who are overjoyed, and I learned many many years ago never to complain about it In Real Life! Am digging out the fans and baggy clothing as I write

Delatron, the thing is, I get ill in hot weather. It's genuinely a heartsinking feeling seeing the temperatures spiking. So yes, here I am, moaning. You really don't have to read it - just go outside and enjoy

(I can emphasise a little though - I get sick of everyone moaning about rain and chilly days, which I love!)

Looking at the weather forecast it's like being told 'you will be struck down with a really horrible cold on Tuesday, will feel horrible and won't be able to do anything'.

Its not been warm for one morning. It's been horribly muggy for a couple of months now, any time you move you get drenched in sweat and it sucks the energy out of me. And given that I have to sit and listen to everyone complain about winter the minute cardis have to go on I'm happy to moan as much as I want! I bloody hate it.

Where do you live that's been muggy? I am in the south east and it has been piss poor for months. There is something wrong with you if you get drenched in sweat when it's 18 degrees?

Finally we may be able to eat outside for a few days and enjoy the garden. It's bloody lovely and it will last for precisely 3 days before it gets shit again. I feel sorry that it makes some of you ill but the cold and rain makes me ill and depressed and we suffer that about 10 months of the year. So really I think you'll cope for a few days. Jeez

Meanwhile back in the world I live in (which is sadly opposite to yours), I'm honestly wondering how the hell I'm going to make it through Tuesday, there's no way I can miss it. And this is the worst week at work to not sleep well during - not the end of the world and just one of those things, I know, but really really bad timing!

I'm thinking sick bags, frozen water bottles, and fingers firmly crossed that I won't do anything embarrassing like faint dead away in the middle of an event again.

Ooh, can I join in? Agree that you can't say it in real life, but I HATE it when the weather's hot. More than 20 degrees and I'm very ratty, scuttling about in the shade and avoiding outdoors. My BF lives in New Mexico where it is currently 42 degrees .... give me the Scottish climate any day.

I really feel for you, struggling for a few days. How relentless.

My heart sank At the thought of Tuesday. 7 months pregnant and no idea how I'm going to function at work. No air conditioning and a teacher. Dreading getting DD to bed/sleep at night night too.

God no, you definitely can't say it in real life Gingham - much like being happy when it's raining or cold, or perhaps admitting you don't drink tea or something. It just isn't on!

42 would probably kill me, really. Having said that, it's easier when you can acclimatise with a slow-build, then hot weather, then slow back to normal again. The red-hot overnight stuff is the worst. It was especially bad a few summers ago when it dipped up and down a lot.
