...Anyone else's heart sink at heatwaves?!

Agh! Just looked at the weather app and next week looks like hell! On Tuesday, when we have a big event and I'll be running everywhere and driving for hours, it'll be over 30 Confused

Every bloody heatwave I get sick, moody, and then also don't sleep for weeks. Every time! No idea why. I dread them

... Are there any fellow heat-haters about on Mumsnet who fancy a whine? may well just be me

I'm with you OP.

I'm just not made for the heat. Anything over about 23 and I want to cry. I become a sweaty, bright red mess who has nothing suitable to wear.

Not in London anyway - holidays are fine, mainly because there is usually working aircon and water to cool off in.

ShelaghTurner · 16/07/2016 15:50

Ten months? Not in the south east I live in. Slight exaggeration possibly. Just shows, complain about the cold and that's fine. Complain about the heat and no one gives a fuck. Thankfully I don't give a fuck either and will complain till the cows come home if it suits.

Owlytellsmesecrets · 16/07/2016 15:57

I hate the heat. DS has epilepsy and it means he has more seizures and DH has MS and he becomes wobbly!!!!

dementedma · 16/07/2016 15:58

I'm in rain sodden Scotland and I cannot WAIT for the sun to appear! Cannot bloody wait! Grin

NeedACleverNN · 16/07/2016 16:00

I hate heat waves with a passion.

You can't sleep at night because it's too hot, it zaps all energy out of you so you don't want to do anything, you are irritable and snappy. Yuck

Much prefer it when it's warm enough to go out without a jacket but if it gets cool a light jacket is all you need

PlaymobilPirate · 16/07/2016 16:01

I hate it - I have lymphodema (which means my feet and legs swell up massively) I can find some comfort from big winter boots but summer means more swelling and they're really sore. Trunk legs and massive puddings for feet mean I look awful too 😣

wavingnow · 16/07/2016 16:04

Hate hate hate it. Makes me feel miserable already, just the thought of it.

maxeffort0satisfaction · 16/07/2016 16:05

i fucking hate it.ruins my make up. have to wear my hair up which I don't like. have to wear sunglasses which I don't like. have to wear sun screen which feels iky and chalky. my skin feels sticky and my scalp sweaty.
summe is the arsehole of the year.

officerhinrika · 16/07/2016 16:09

Respiratory problems here. Monday and Tuesday are marked down for sitting very still and concentrating on breathing. Anything over 23 or so is very difficult for me. So Delatron, what sort of state am I in to be affected by a bit of heat? Pretty poor really and let's hope you dont get struck with a chronic illness out of the blue eh?

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 16/07/2016 16:11

I just know my period will start on Monday night. It's been threatening for days, but when I saw the forecast for Tuesday, I realised what it was waiting for.

notamummy10 · 16/07/2016 16:14

Not again, no wonder it's been so humid these past few days... I hate hot weather!! I cannot wait until it's cold again.

Delatron · 16/07/2016 16:15

It's summer. It's a couple of days of warm weather. After months of wet and rain. Maybe you all need to work on your coping strategies for heat. Imagine if we had a summer like 76? (I wish!)

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 16/07/2016 16:21

What do you suggest, then, Delatron?

When it's cold, I can wrap up warm. However, I still have to walk 3 miles on Tuesday, since schools haven't broken up, here, hope that none of us get prickly heat and hope that I don't pass out.

liquidrevolution · 16/07/2016 16:22

OP I also get ill in hot weather. I am hoping to work from home on Tuesday, my house is generally cool so will be ok indoors. I had to play with DD in her playhouse this morning and nearly fainted from the heat ( i am in Berkshire) My stomach is churning already and I bet there will be a headache as well soon. Not to mention sweat rash and prickly heat. I hate hot weather. Sad

NeedACleverNN · 16/07/2016 16:23

Why are we allowed to bitch and moan about the cold but as soon as someone complains about heat they are miserable? Hmm

dementedma · 16/07/2016 16:25

Sympathies with those who dont like the heat, but as the vast majority of the time it's cold, grey and rainy, spare a thought for those of us who long to feel a bit of sunshine for a few days..

Delatron · 16/07/2016 16:26

Because it isn't hot for very long! 2 days! Honestly. Genuine question what do you all do when we have a good summer? This one has been rubbish and you're all still moaning.

NeedACleverNN · 16/07/2016 16:28

Not everyone enjoys the heat though

Some people get very ill, I go faint with exhaustion.

So yes I don't like heat waves. The weather at the moment is fine for me. Cool enough to sleep, warm enough to not be too hot

Delatron · 16/07/2016 16:29

I wouldn't dream about moaning about the cold in winter, when it is supposed to be cold..It's just nice to have proper seasons. I shall enjoy my bbq outside whilst the kids finally play in the paddling pool. Glorious.

NeedACleverNN · 16/07/2016 16:32

So you have never said "God it's cold! Can't wait for summer for the heat"?

Duckstar · 16/07/2016 16:33

Hate it. Redhead with incredibly fair skin. I get terrible headaches as well in the heat. Anything over about 22 degrees and I flake. Controversially, I often find soft plays great in heat waves. Air-conditioned and often empty - perfect!

RubyGoat · 16/07/2016 16:38

Me too. I really dislike anything above 25°c. DH likes warm weather but he is a serious sweater, in hot weather he is literally dripping, all over, all day. I appear to have no temperature regulation as I don't sweat, I just wilt.

OTOH, it's nice to get all the washing dry outside on a hot day.

Delatron · 16/07/2016 16:39

I wouldn't if it was cold for 2 days! I'd enjoy the change. Default weather is cold and rainy in this country FOR MONTHS. I shall enjoy the sunshine for a few DAYS thank you very much.

SunLoather · 16/07/2016 16:40

Oh, I do have sympathy Dementedma, honest! My dad gets seasonal affective disorder and has to use the specialised lamps to help, so I do get it.. Thank you for offering some in return Smile. One day we'll all have personalised air-bubbles or something maybe?

Delatron, I think you're being a bit rude, although maybe I'm misreading tones on the internet. If you love it, that's great, but when others don't, you don't need to take it personally or snark at them on the internet, just go out and enjoy yourself. Our moaning won't change the weather, honest!

I don't know why it has such a shitty effect on some people, but saying "oh it's just a few days" doesn't help right now as (1) it might end up being a few months on and off until Octoberish, and (2) even if it was 5 minutes, it's still horrible and annoying! The poster above who said it's a bit like seeing an app saying "You'll be horribly sick on Tuesday and there's nothing you can do about it" got it right.

I had a lot of tests a few months ago as part of my recurrent miscarriage investigations, and I really hoped they'd tell me I had something like "hypothyroidism" or something which would explain my general aversion to heat as well as other stuff. Ironically the only thing wrong with me was low vitamin D, which apparently is true of most of the UK. So I'm the first to wish I truly enjoyed hot weather - it might be the key to one day having a family of my own! As it is though...
