...Anyone else's heart sink at heatwaves?!

SunLoather · 16/07/2016 13:10

Agh! Just looked at the weather app and next week looks like hell! On Tuesday, when we have a big event and I'll be running everywhere and driving for hours, it'll be over 30 Confused

Every bloody heatwave I get sick, moody, and then also don't sleep for weeks. Every time! No idea why. I dread them

... Are there any fellow heat-haters about on Mumsnet who fancy a whine? may well just be me

OP posts:

SunLoather - are you feeling any better? Did you manage to get a doctor's appt? Hope you're ok.

AndroidAddict · 20/07/2016 19:21

The ants are going mad, the dc seem to have forgotten how to sit still, it's still boiling hot here and I have a pounding headache despite having had loads** of painkillers and plenty to drink. Yes I complain when it is too cold or dull or rainy but I really, really hate this heat. It's stifling and makes me feel like shit. We were promised rain, thunderstorms and then cooler weather but it hasn't happened and I'm fed up

**no more than the recommended daily dose of painkillers of course.

imwithspud · 20/07/2016 22:06

Seems to be a bit cooler today/tonight. Much more bearable. Hoping for some rain at some point.

LoisPuddingLane · 21/07/2016 09:17

It feels a bit cooler here too - I'm definitely feeling less zombie-like. Although I'm fucking sick of the passive aggressive facebook posts having a dig. One so called friend posted a Peter Kay clip about having a Solero and getting over it saying 'Ha ha you know who you are. To paraphrase Arthur Smith: of course it's hot, it's summer. You don't go around in the middle of the night saying ooh isn't it dark?'

I pointed out that being in the dark never made me feel like shit. Perhaps I should choose my friends more wisely.

imwithspud · 21/07/2016 10:47

Much cooler here too, down to around 26 degrees (based on the monitor in dd's room). I can tolerate that as long as I dress appropriately.

I too got sick of the PA posts on fb about people not enjoying the weather. I posted my own PA post about how it's acceptable to moan about other types of weather but when it's hot we're meant to just accept it to be socially accepted. Not seen anyone post anything since. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not but they can't argue that I made a valid pointGrin I did it in a jokey lighthearted way so as not to seem like a complete spoil sport.

Putthatonyourneedles · 22/07/2016 01:01

I work in the NHS and im sure you have all seen our lovely thick uniforms. Well those combined with the fact that it is 27 degrees on the ward at the moment (Highest was 32 degrees) mean that i am not enjoying this heatwave at all.

Maz2444466 · 22/07/2016 01:04

Completely understand OP, I used to be a sun-seeker but since having DC I can't stand the heat. I love cool, cloudy days now, a gentle breeze and no more than 20C! Preferably 15C.

NicknameUsed · 22/07/2016 01:55

It was nearly 36 degrees and very humid where we are and DD was struggling. That I can understand. I still think that if you struggle at 20 degrees that it needs checking out. It isn't normal.

Maybebabybee · 22/07/2016 05:14

What about people who moan that they're freezing when it's 10c, Nickname? Do they need checking out too?

There's nothing wrong with me ffs. I just hate the heat and I get hot quickly.

NicknameUsed · 22/07/2016 05:24

But 10 degrees is rather cold to most people. It is definitely coat weather, and I would only complain about it being 10 degrees if I wasn't wearing enough clothes, or if it was the middle of summer when it is supposed to be warmer.

NicknameUsed · 22/07/2016 05:25

And 20 degrees isn't hot, but pleasantly warm.

Maybebabybee · 22/07/2016 06:46

To me it's hot. What's your problem with that Confused

Maybebabybee · 22/07/2016 06:47

It's not even so much that 20c is hot per SE, if I was just sitting there I would be OK. Moving around a lot I would get hot quickly. It's just how my body is.

Greenyogagirl · 22/07/2016 09:52

It's 19 degrees at the moment and I don't like it, if it's 'warm' it's uncomfortably so.
Nothing wrong with me, I just don't like being hot warm.

NeedACleverNN · 22/07/2016 12:10

It's 20-24 degrees here today but it's so overcast and it has a nice breeze that it actually feels a lot cooler. It's lovely

NicknameUsed · 22/07/2016 15:47

Everyone has their own version of what is hot, warm etc, but in the grand scheme of things and according to weather forecasters 20 degrees would be considered warm rather than hot.

Just being pedantic Wink

LoisPuddingLane · 22/07/2016 17:16

I walked to work in 20 degrees this morning and was literally wet when I got in. I have to mop everything that I can decently mop with kitchen roll. Are you saying there's something wrong with me for sweating? Because I can assure you there isn't. I'm as "normal" as you are, Nickname. As for 10 degrees being coat weather, are you sure about that? Maybe you should get yourself checked out.

Artandco · 22/07/2016 17:48

10 degrees is def coat weather. Recommended bedroom temperature is 18 degrees. At that temperature in bed many will have long sleeve pjs on and a winter tog quilt. So way more than a coat. 10 degrees indoors would be freezing cold

Maybebabybee · 22/07/2016 17:51

I'd need a coat in 10 degrees but not a massive one. A leather jacket.

Maybebabybee · 22/07/2016 17:52

And I don't wear long sleeve pjs ever. T shirt only all year round.

Artandco · 22/07/2016 17:58

I never wear any pjamas, but I also keep flat at 21 degrees all year. At 21 degrees I sleep with heating on, winter wool duvet, and a throw. Snug

LoisPuddingLane · 22/07/2016 20:45

I only wore my big coat once last winter. The rest of the time I just had a raincoat on.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 23/07/2016 00:05

School fete today. Blathered in factor 50. Ducked into the shade as often as possible. Cloud cover for much of the first hour or so. No longer pre-menstrual and hot flushy.

Got fucking burnt, of course Angry

NicknameUsed · 23/07/2016 00:27

10 degrees is coat weather for most people.
