From storm thread which talked about the complexities of tomorrow's weather:

It depends on how heavy the precipitation is, the air it falls through and obviously the temperature. I expect some people will have rather a surprise."

And With regards to discussion about NI: "it's going to sound like a cop out but I just don't know 850hpa temps look borderline as does air temp but if the rain is heavy and falls through dry air as it evaporates it can cool the air down allowing snow to fall. ( evaporative cooling)
Often snow in the UK hangs on a knife edge with a temp swing of one or two degrees making all the difference. It makes it very difficult for councils. Put grit down too early and it gets washed away then it turns to snow and everyone blames the councils for the ensuing chaos."

I don't think things have changed since my thoughts earlier today.

Still snowing in Derbyshire. We're supposed to be driven back to Yorkshire by MIL tomorrow, and she won't drive in snow. How long is it supposed to last? I only have two days' underwear left...

Kitten still snowing here (SDerbys) but flakes are much smaller and closer together iyswim, weather app says 3 deg. Quite a good covering and v pretty.

Snowing heavily and settling here in Rutland.

Raining on the East Coast and Norfolk/Suffolk borders.

It's just an over night affair for both the Scottish system(though that may last into the morning) and the Welsh/English system. cherry pippin you should check travel conditions before you set off as it's as much of a messy affair up there as it is further south with a mix of rain sleet and snow.

Though I'd rather watch the weather than the tv at the moment.

Raining and cold

Please can someone cheer me up and tell me I might be getting snow at some point?

Started snowing where we are staying on the north Notts/lincolnshire border. Was 2c 20 min ago and large, wet flakes that weren't settling. It's now 0.3c. I think it will start to settle soon.

Snowing in south Leeds but not settling

Snow has turned to rain in Birmingham. Oh well, nice while it lasted!

I am not remotely excited about the snow, BTW. We have a 4 hour drive (in good conditions) home.
