They are very broad based at the moment because as is ever with thunderstorms, you can have all the right conditions for them but actually predicting whether and where they will trigger is a big challenge.

Warning is for torrential rain as a result of thunderstorms which may also bring hail and strong wind.

There may be thunderstorms as early as tomorrow night in the SW but the main risk is Friday night through Saturday.

That's going to put a downer on Farnborough Air show

I have a thread elsewhere about DS' birthday party, starting at 11am on Saturday morning in our garden. We may be planning a new sport, "extreme bouncy castle", for 5 year olds.

I have a very rare day out in Newcastle with my two best mates, dressing up / tanning, it's Newcastle Cocktail Week!! The image of us looking chic, standing in glorious sunshine, sipping on cocktails has been washed away!

At the moment the biggest risk looking at GFS (which got it a bit wrong last time) the risk Friday night is in the SE. Saturday morning hampshire northwards and then basically anywhere in southern central england through to central midlands. I'd take that with a massive pinch of salt though.

NE France, and Belgium and Holland have a risk for some Big Storms too.

Most of us in the warning areas wont see storms. They never hit everywhere. However glee and ruby, you are both in a 'higher' risk area at present I think.

I hope it misses Farnborough, Hampshire, I'm going to the airshow and thunderstorms would really ruin that.

My ds is on his first ever cub camp at the weekend, I do hope it is not a washout for him. I would hate for it to put him off wanting to go again.

I certainly wouldnt cancel any plans yet, just be aware of the possibility. Sunday looks much less potentially stormy at present, so it might be worth retaining some flexibility for those who can.

We have family coming over for a bbq for ds's 2nd birthday. Boo to weather!

Wish I could transfer our tickets to Sunday but we've booked a package with picnic hamper and grandstand seats as it's DD's graduation present. Really looking forward to the Vulcan Cats.

Hopefully Farnborough will have it's own microclimate and miss out on the storms even though I love storms normally.

Oh marvellous. First ever holiday in our new (second hand) caravan with DD4.5 and DD 2.5 heading to Surrey on Friday afternoon. Will be so much fun being in a tin box with two terrified littlies and will ruin my idea of sitting outside drinking lovely wine with DH all night
