from the met office

They are very broad based at the moment because as is ever with thunderstorms, you can have all the right conditions for them but actually predicting whether and where they will trigger is a big challenge.

Warning is for torrential rain as a result of thunderstorms which may also bring hail and strong wind.

Are we go

ChaChaChaChanges · 18/07/2014 01:29

Are we going to have problems with a ferry from Le Havre to Portmouth on Saturday afternoon/evening?

And may I add a bit scary!!!

StairsInTheNight · 18/07/2014 01:58

Just hitting London, is anyone else tracking on the lightning detector?

ChasedByBees · 18/07/2014 02:00

Oxfordshire too. The lightening turned on my touch sensitive (capactive) bedside lights! Shock Had to tell someone. It's awesome.

Toddler woke up simultaneously crying for us so she's now in with us.

I watched the storm for a couple of minutes then lay down and told her it was exciting. She went to sleep snuggled up close straight away. So trusting. Mummy says it's fine so it is. :)

RustyBear · 18/07/2014 02:09

Thank you!

StairsInTheNight · 18/07/2014 02:20

Lots of big big flashes here, not much thunder though, but rushing wind. Just ran out to bring cushions in!

judypoops · 18/07/2014 02:24

Thanks for the maps, brilliant!

judypoops · 18/07/2014 02:25

Bucks - big storm, lots of lightning, constant rolling thunder (not big booms and crashes but loud and rolling rolling rolling), steady (not heavy) rains 0230h for an hour.

Woke up again at 0435h to round two - lots of lightning, bit crashes and bangs, steady heavier rain. Think round 3 may be on it's way in (0550h).

JillJ72 · 18/07/2014 05:56

And that should be "big" and "its", iPad....

digerd · 18/07/2014 06:30

S>Herts
Woken in the night by rushing wind, rain and thunder. Raining steadily now and last rumble of thunder was about 15 minutes ago.
Didn't see any lightning through closed curtains.

Meglet · 18/07/2014 07:28

Impressive storm from 1am - 2am (and later?) in North Hampshire last night.

At one point the wind whooshed through the house and slammed all the doors. Which gave me the willies .

I was at the window watching for a while then decided it would be wise to close the windows so I could sleep.

mankyscotslass · 18/07/2014 07:31

A bit of light rain here at 5 this morning, now the sun is out and the temperature is rising.

Envy No storms here. As usual.

We miss out on a lot of the interesting weather. Sad

NCISaddict · 18/07/2014 07:40

It was exciting wasn't it Meglet. I'm on the North Hampshire/Surrey border and one rumble of thunder set off my car alarm. Went downstairs to find the keys to switch it off and the dog raised an eyebrow and went back to sleep. That is one seriously chilled pooch!
