Storm forecasts for this week (perhaps some severe storms)

This follows on from another thread but I thought a more explicit title was needed!

Its a complex situation and lots going on this week. There is potential for severe storms perhaps (definition of a severe storm is large hail, frequent cloud-ground lightning, flooding and tornadoes - hopefully not all in the same storm unless its a real good 'un!)

Estofex have issued a level 1 alert for storms for today and tomorrow.

For our storm forecasts today I'm going to hand you over to some experts on UKWW It's a really complex situation and they are way better at it than me (especially as my time is very limited before work). If you've got any questions about what they are saying don't hesitate to ask Smile I'm out this morning but back at lunch time for a bit.

I am in Somerset and its been so so hot today, real struggle to get through work! We have finally been told we can wear smartish shorts and t.shirt to work so its bound to change tomorrow!!

41notTrendy · 22/07/2013 22:08

I'm in Nottingham. One hell of a storm going on here. Sheet lightening, fork lightening, raining very hard. Been overhead for about half an hour, moving North now.

alcibiades · 22/07/2013 22:10

I do hope there will be more opportunies for some good storms - though I'm not relishing the idea that the heat and humidity will continue.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2013 22:16

I really hope we get our turn :)

41notTrendy - that sounds amazing.

LadyStark · 22/07/2013 22:17

I'm in SW London/Surrey and really hoping for a storm to cool things down a little. It's still 28 degrees according to my phone, too damn hot.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 22/07/2013 22:17

Oooh, we might get it in South Yorks soon then!

41notTrendy · 22/07/2013 22:20

It's the first time I've ever been a bit scared by a storm! Moved on now. Sadly it's still hot and a bit muggy and the puddles are evaporating at a rather alarming speed!

Found the new thread.Smile

No rain or anything on the south coast. There was a breeze earlier which has disappeared.

What's happening?

GobbySadcase · 22/07/2013 22:22

Do you think crossing the channel will be ok on Wed?

OddSockMonster · 22/07/2013 22:22

I think I may have just heard thunder (Sheffield), though it could have just been a truck.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2013 22:36

there was a strike near sheffield a biit ago.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2013 22:38

the strike rate was over 600 and most of nottingham has disappeared under crosses!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2013 22:47

That's quite drastic Susan!!

Can I just pop my health and safety hat on and suggest that you don't leave pcs plugged in if there is a storm nearby. Also, sensible not to use corded phones or take a shower. I talk partly from experience (neighbours all lost their tellies and pcs when we had a c-g hit a few years ago) and partly from having been to lectures that look at the stats about injuries from storms.

Pete there's likely to be more, especially in central southern England and the SE from roughly midnight on through tomorrow. Of course storms are always hit or miss.

i always unplug the tv aerial and tv and computer and don't use the phone, (lightening though your ear) or wee even. Blush I read a book when about ten and I have been too scared to do any of those things when there is a nearby storm.

SuperiorCat · 22/07/2013 23:02

First flashes and rumbles started up in Northants

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2013 23:15

I can't wee during a storm either Blush bit silly really.

I NEED a fabulous storm. One with millions of strikes and a foot of hail and a funnel cloud (not a tornado)

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2013 23:30

same reason as shower, but think of first point of contact! ouch!

pinkkoala · 22/07/2013 23:39

Superior cat where in northants are you, i am also northants heard a couple of faint rumbles but just had very heavy downpour.
Is northants on the cards to get any storm activity tonight or tomorrow.

PseudoBadger · 23/07/2013 01:41

Fantastic rate of flashes and bangs that I can see here but just hear very faintly (North London, these look to be slightly east of here).

scripsi · 23/07/2013 01:47

I am in south east (herts) we have a big storm, lots of thunder and lightening and now the rain. Has been going on for about an hour now.

PseudoBadger · 23/07/2013 01:50

I can probably see your storm then!
