Storm forecasts for this week (perhaps some severe storms)

This follows on from another thread but I thought a more explicit title was needed!

Its a complex situation and lots going on this week. There is potential for severe storms perhaps (definition of a severe storm is large hail, frequent cloud-ground lightning, flooding and tornadoes - hopefully not all in the same storm unless its a real good 'un!)

Estofex have issued a level 1 alert for storms for today and tomorrow.

For our storm forecasts today I'm going to hand you over to some experts on UKWW It's a really complex situation and they are way better at it than me (especially as my time is very limited before work). If you've got any questions about what they are saying don't hesitate to ask Smile I'm out this morning but back at lunch time for a bit.

Hmm wonder if we will get any it's been years since we had a good storm

RussiansOnTheSpree · 22/07/2013 13:30

I don't want a tornado though....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2013 13:31

There may be some isolated storms this afternoon but as Gloria says the main risk is for tonight and into tomorrow as troughs approach from the SW.

Look at the met office surface pressure charts at midnight and tomorrow midday. The thick black lines are the troughs.

fairly low probability for tornadoes to form from this at the moment, but the risk is there.

Holy crap, it's boiling!

MySweetPrince · 22/07/2013 14:21

Kent here and just come in from lunch - 32 degrees! - will we get a storm later? It is beginning to get a bit hazy looking over the downs.

BlackAffronted · 22/07/2013 15:19

Only about 16c up here in Scotland!

alcibiades · 22/07/2013 15:24

Central Hampshire here - temp 30/humidex 36.5 and rising!

Just mowed the lawn. It didn't really need it except that there were a lot of stalks sticking up and it was looking irritatingly untidy. Uncomfortably sticky out there.

I've posted this link before: www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html - it shows convection clouds that seemingly appear from nowhere and then disappear again. There's often a bunch of them on the northern French coast, which I presume form when the warm, moist air from the south meets the cooler air over the Channel and is forced upwards.

OneStepCloser · 22/07/2013 15:33

Have no idea what is here in London but it is v v hot, feels hotter than last week. Keep looking for clouds as I have washing out!

honey86 · 22/07/2013 15:57

my lawn is like straw at the mo Sad used to be lush and green now it needle-like and yellow and balding.

i really want that thunderstorm- when i was little we used to get really good ones that lasted for hours.., i find them entertaining x

magimedi · 22/07/2013 16:02

East Sussex - currently 28C in the shade.

ephemeralfairy · 22/07/2013 16:06

It's about 32 in London, although I am currently in bed with my second bout of severe tonsillitis is fortnight. HmmI feel utterly dreadful.

ephemeralfairy · 22/07/2013 16:07

Praying for a drop in temp over the next few days....!

GloriaSmud · 22/07/2013 16:24

Now 34.1C here (Leicester)
Has been confirmed that it's the hottest day for 7 years.

curlew · 22/07/2013 16:28

It's my birthday tomorrow and I want a picnic for my treat, so it's bound to rain. I'd settle for. Fantastic thunderstorm though, and then I can have that as my treat on my birthday and a picnic at the weekend!

GloriaSmud · 22/07/2013 16:30

Lightning detector bit of netweather here ~ good splodge of lightning hits showing up over the coast of France atm!

Campaspe · 22/07/2013 16:33

Gosh, well it's absolutely baking in Bristol with no sign of any storm activity or cooling down yet. Really hoping we don't miss out, and it would be brilliant if it happened before bedtime!

captainmummy · 22/07/2013 16:36

32C here (surrey/sussex border) - no sign of rain or clouds yet. Have not watered the garden yet, in case i needn't bother Grin

I was nearly struck by lightning once - the house I was in (in teh attic) was across the road from a house whhich had the roof blown off. It was a bungalow - never understood why that was hit, not the 3 storey house I was in the attic of...20 yards away

digerd · 22/07/2013 16:49

It is suffocating now even in the house which was fine at 2pm. Why does it get so oppressive after 3pm - phew, huff and puff, wilt, gasp. That's just sitting down! No draught from an open door just the hot air coming in,
33 at 3pm now 32, but it's the lack of fresh air movement that affects me.
Just wondering when little dog can go out again. 7pm yesterday was too warm for herSad. At dusk it is too dangerous for me without a suit of armour as the mossies and gnats love me and bite through my clothes, giving me cellulitis last year.

digerd · 22/07/2013 16:54

I developed clover in my lawn last year which has increased this year. it is still growing strong, just the grass is destroyed.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/07/2013 17:03

captainmummy I too am on the Sussex/Surrey border Grin

Campaspe · 22/07/2013 17:12

So, anyone in Cornwall, Devon or Dorset got any storm news to impart????

8thplace · 22/07/2013 17:25

West Wales here, becoming darker and cooler by the minute.
Air feels heavy with moisture, but no actual rain yet.
Breeze picking up slightly.

Feels like we are soon to have the storm.

mummylin2495 · 22/07/2013 17:39

Lashing down in Bournemouth. Hope it goes on for a bit so I don't have to water the garden ! Oh it's damn well stopped !

stubbornstains · 22/07/2013 17:53
