Storm forecasts for this week (perhaps some severe storms)

This follows on from another thread but I thought a more explicit title was needed!

Its a complex situation and lots going on this week. There is potential for severe storms perhaps (definition of a severe storm is large hail, frequent cloud-ground lightning, flooding and tornadoes - hopefully not all in the same storm unless its a real good 'un!)

Estofex have issued a level 1 alert for storms for today and tomorrow.

For our storm forecasts today I'm going to hand you over to some experts on UKWW It's a really complex situation and they are way better at it than me (especially as my time is very limited before work). If you've got any questions about what they are saying don't hesitate to ask Smile I'm out this morning but back at lunch time for a bit.

So, where and when for these storms then? Met office forecasts light showers for Bristol tomorrow; was hoping for so much more.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/07/2013 18:31

Met office only forecasting a light shower at 1am tomorrow and heavy one in the afternoon for us (Sussex/Surrey border)

captainmummy · 22/07/2013 18:43

Hi spotty - I am near the airport!

Still no rain here. No breeze. Come on thunder!

captainmummy · 22/07/2013 18:45

just had another look at that raintoday link up thread - the storm over Caen looks like a forest fire

OneStepCloser · 22/07/2013 18:48

Just had a sprinkling of rain in SE London, but still v v hot.

OnTheNingNangNong · 22/07/2013 19:07

I'm in South Devon, no storms here, but very high cloud, blue skies, sunshine and humidity. There is an easterly breeze from the sea which is making it tolerable. I dont think there's mention of storms here tonight, just light rain overnight which the garden will be thankful for!

alcibiades · 22/07/2013 19:10

From the rainfall radar, it looks like the rain band is going just to the north of us [glum], but the lightning radar looks a bit more promising [cheers up a bit].

youarewinning · 22/07/2013 19:11

I'm South coast (Hampshire) PLEASE tell me the 5 minutes of large raindrops we had half hour ago will actually come back as a storm - it's so flipping muggy.

OYBBK - hows your eyes now? Thanks

magimedi · 22/07/2013 19:18

I am just loving this thread - it's so interesting to hear what everyone else is getting weather wise.

And I also second youare - how's things with you, OYBBK?

KvassInTheNight · 22/07/2013 19:26

just had a couple of light showers here in London. Praying for a good heavy shower, its totally boiling here still. Was 32 in my house today who knows how hot outside!

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2013 19:37

wow. 344 lightening strikes in the last hour. LOOK! thanks to gloria! Thanks

alcibiades · 22/07/2013 20:36

That's an impressive number of lightning strikes, and a very useful website - thanks Gloria.

Sadly, all the action had definitely passed to the north of me, without any respite from the heat and humidity.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2013 20:59

lots more opportunities for storms over the next few days, todays stuff is just an added bonus. :)

eye is mixed fortunes but I'm doing ok - in some ways there has been a good improvement but its been rather a trade off. Another check up later this week to see how things are progressing. Thank you for asking :)

I have had a glancing blow from a lightning strike once. Was enough to knock me off my feet. (wont go into more detail as its rather outing!) Part of what got me into weather forecasting and so interested in storms.

ephemeral, hope you feel better soon.

South East Wales here.

I've brought the washing in and put away the garden cushions and umbrella, but there's still only a few very high clouds here, though the temperature has dropped considerably from earlier (phew - it was a hot one today!).

Wonder if we'll get any rain? Hope so, the water butt is empty!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2013 21:11

You know what, the south (especially the eastern side) and eastern midlands doesnt actually look to cool down for very long now. GFS is taking temperatures back up to 30C on Saturday!

OYBBK are you my dad? He got struck by lightening once...well sort of, he was standing under a tree in a storm with a bit of metal in his hand...blew the metal straight out of his hand! Thank goodness for welly boots...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2013 21:17

I don't think I'm your Dad Spotty, unless he has a uterus and boobs Grin

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 22/07/2013 21:21

No uterus that I know of, the boobs on the other hand.... Wink

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2013 21:28

there is a doozy of a storm just to the west of the m69

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2013 21:30

now furtherr north and just south west of nottingham. 452strikes!

GloriaSmud · 22/07/2013 21:43

That storm just missed us (we're right at the end of the M69) but we did hear thunder rumbling around about an hour ago.
We've had a rain shower this evening with some 'chubby' raindrops but that's it. 'Tis 'orribly humid, 24.6C and no breeze.

GloriaSmud · 22/07/2013 21:46

Looks like South Nottingham's getting a good storm atm.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2013 21:53

579 and mum is underneath a big one.

MarianForrester · 22/07/2013 21:59

Aaaargh, driving back through northern France to Scotland tomorrow - will it be scary.....?

Mirage · 22/07/2013 22:08
