You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

Honey mentor me!!!!! Grin My NQT passion for this job has peaks and troughs, at the moment, thanks to all the govt uncertainty, the union's questions not being answered and particularly because of the attitude of MN, my passion is fading a wee bit.
I'd like to be passionate like you (sorry if this seems a bit crawly, it isn't meant that way) Grin

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 13/05/2020 00:28

@Appuskidu @TheHoneyBadger like a MN Exiles group Grin

I saw this in an article by Ann Smith (NEU)

Our youngest children are being used as an experiment to see if there is a spike in the infection rate. It’s clear that social distancing of children has been abandoned, but we have not been given scientific evidence to support this. The National Education Union (NEU) has repeatedly asked to see the peer-reviewed evidence, but it has not been forthcoming. So one is left to conclude that the government wants schools to reopen merely so that they can provide childcare and people can go back to work.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 00:43

I wasn’t passionate anymore pink. A bullying hod whose all about spreadsheets and no one giving a shit that I was telling them I wasn’t enough for struggling ks4 as a non specialist etc etc had turned it into a it’s just a job, must keep a roof over ds’s head, just have to keep going till he’s out of education and then I can go back overseas or top myself or take up a heroin habit type trudge lol

I’d love to mentor nqts or better yet contribute to teacher training in uni. I haven’t walked a conventional enough career path though.

It was devastating seeing our lovely student be assigned a mentor who literally can’t manage personal hygiene or keeping his classroom clean or tidy. He got a responsibility point because no one else applied. He claimed to have done all this work he was paid to do then went off sick and they discovered he’d just blatantly lied. None of it was done.

The student was lovely and luckily really had her head screwed on. I had one free where there was just me and her in the office and would just chat and support rather than get my own work done. It really cheered me up being able to help someone.

With new staff, despite being part time and battling to keep my head above water as a non specialist, I’ll sit and explain go and smhw and where the mark sheets are and how to search for your groups etc because I remember drowning in all that with zero support.

I keep writing essays sorry. Have also chewed ds’s ear off about real education and learning tonight

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 00:47

I have been drinking perry. I’ll blame my waffle and passion on that

borntobequiet · 13/05/2020 05:53

@LilyMumsnet
Poor tone there. Really.

Layla Moran MP on Twitter:

I've been granted a UQ in parliament tomorrow on the reopening of schools. If you're a teacher, parent, or student who has any concerns or questions about this please let me know and reply to this tweet.

Confusion is definitely beginning to reign about the year 10/12 thing... if headteachers find out everything form press announcements and DfE circulars , who on earth is it that knows more about what any of the guidance means ? Or are we all supposed to guess?

I am reading increasingly of schools and colleges telling staff year 10 and 12 are going back on June 1st. This is definitely not what Boris said, but the guidance reads differently.

I also read on another thread (not posting on it!) that a parent of a shielded child expects full online learning for her child. Completely understandable. Also nothing at al in the guidance about remote learning.

We also know that the TBs are bolshy teacher haters. But the ones who are very vocal about not sending their children may also become very very aggressively bashery when they don't still get provided with work to of. Therefore, I expect we will be told to do both jobs.

It is also suggested that vulnerable staff may be the staff who set the remote learning. How is a teacher supposed to provide remote learning to children they don't teach and, in secondary, outside of their subject specialism!!

So many questions with no answers!

Piggywaspushed · 13/05/2020 07:16

I like this from a premiership footballer:

The governments saying bring back football to boost the morale of the nation, I don't give a fck about the nations morale. Peoples lives are at risk!"

"Football shouldn't be spoken about till numbers have dropped massively. It's bollocks.*

Don’t be sorry! They’re lovely to read and I hope they are therapeutic to write too.

Piggy-those are my musings too.

Well, I’m off into school today folks because we all know teachers are just getting paid for a 7 week holiday so I’ll check in tonight!

@Appuskidu there seems to a new MN Exiles thread in the home time health section on TES

I think one of our lurkers?

OP posts:
NeurotrashWarrior · 13/05/2020 08:06

Oooh is there? I find tes v frustrating in terms of lay out and navigation. Wish they had an app like this one.

But also, there's no where near the traffic that there is here!

pinkrocker · 13/05/2020 08:06

staff can you link to it?

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/05/2020 08:13

That coffee looks so tasty. Smile

MollyAtTheFolly · 13/05/2020 08:16

I've had enough with MN - that message from @LilyMumsnet was the last straw.

I'm going back to TES (moved when they made that massive change years ago) - I'm tangerinecat over there. Name change frequently here (more so since that staff member publicised personal details of MNers) so not worried about outing myself Smile

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/05/2020 08:16

It's in home time, health and well being.

Annoyingly my post it waiting approval.

They mod a lot more there.

WhyNotMe40 · 13/05/2020 08:19

Sorry but the Zoe app does not have r ratings. It has percentage of the population that is symptomatic and is a scaled up estimate of the people in the area who are reporting through the Zoe app so does not include for eg care homes and children.

WhyNotMe40 · 13/05/2020 08:25

Sorry wrong thread!

Now my temper is actually coming up to a nice simmer, Plusnet and their shit, shit internet are just about driving me over the edge. DD stressing because she wants to do her maths online work and all we have in the house is the 4G on my phone. Plusnet's advice "have you turned it off and on again"? Angry sorry for rant! Can't WFH with no internet.

RigaBalsam · 13/05/2020 08:30

Got suckered into another thread every day Mumsnet come on accused of not caring about education now.

Why has this not been asked about at the briefing only one time. Even Trump was asked about it. All we read here is low numbers and stop ' scaremongering'Hmm

Asuitablecat · 13/05/2020 08:42

I just bit on one. But it's like pissing in the wind.

Mnhq, can.there be a special teacher-hating section for people to go and hang out in? Active is full of it again and there's enough of it in the daily mail for all the haterz to hang out on.

Saucery · 13/05/2020 08:42

I know there have been a few comments about hairdressing, dentists etc but when the risks are explained to people they are largely accepted. Why aren’t school based staff given the same courtesy?
Surely it’s my right to have my dental treatment continued? I could start a thread about it, but then, I’m not a dick, so I won’t. Sorry to anyone associated with dentists, it was just an example that affects me right now - in the middle of a course of treatment that has just stopped with no clear indication of when it will resume. So I’m in no way having a pop at them, because I can see the wider risks for them and I don’t want anyone in that field to suffer because of my right to a health treatment.
Neither do I want HCPs, bus drivers, supermarket workers or builders to be at risk. I’m not in their job or their unions though, so I’m limited as to what action I can take on their behalf. I can comment on the job I do, however and it has not been proved to be safe.
