You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

Just stay away from the other threads.

I think all we can do is ask than MNHQ strives to keep staffroom safe for us.

If wankers patrol other threads they just need to be deprived of an audience. Otherwise we do get accused of censorship of their 'right to an opinion'.

And thanks Piggy and Saucers.
I've put work and school work on hold and we are sitting down to watch Tweedy's lost and found" from the Barn Theatre. Good old fashioned circus clown entertainment. I'm calling it cultural education Wink

You haven't ruined his brain! Are you part or full time whynot? You need an off day I think and to somehow carve out a nice peaceful bath or a long walk alone or something. Know that's easy said for some people's circumstances.

Have had screaming and virtual tantrum from ds (not his usual behaviour) and then him taking out his rage on his punching bag and tears welling.

I've made him put on his trainers and go out for a walk/run - up till now he's only come out with me but he's fine to go for a walk so long as he distances and I think he (and I) need the head space.

Clean slate when he gets back and I will muster the reserves to go over the maths he tried to do without me spoon feeding yesterday and claimed he didn't understand AT ALL but actually got 48% correct on first attempt so it can't have all been terrible. Will aim to get him up to 80% today.

Hi all,
I've reported a couple of posts today, but not engaged with any of them. It's pretty horrible, and deliberate. Thank you to those of you who are trying to get our point across. I don't have the patience or the diplomacy today!

I'm part time. Very part time! It's just too much today trying to home educate, remote educate, run a house, mind a 3 year old with a death wish, run a non stop kitchen, AND keep my sanity.... A break is definitely needed!

I am aware I am getting more and more snappy and rude as the days pass and it becomes even more open-season than usual towards teachers on here.

Thanks god the union thread was closed. Well done to those who reported it.

If it's any consolation to anyone with kids at home, my son is currently screaming in rage because I am asking him to write an answer to a maths question down.

I'm also trying to write up a safeguarding meeting I had 2 days ago and meant to write the minutes up to ASAP

Can I tell everyone my rant of the day for sympathy?

I went to M and S.

They have MOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT! Why WOULD YOU DO THIS!?

Everyone was up and down, milling around , looking frantically for where the apples had gone so that was fun.

THEN , I got an electric shock from their new self serve tills, I assume because of the plastic trim in the dividing screens (because as we know supermarket bosses are doing everything they can to keep everyone as safe as they can as is much debated on other threads). So that was fun.

THEN when I got home, DS2 pointed out there was 'milk all over the place and why hadn't anyone noticed'. Turns out the milk I bough had a tiny hole in it and was liberally spraying the insides of my fridge with milk. So I had to throw away milk, go out to another shop (is that allowed? Who knows??) , buy more milk. So that was fun.

All of this before 9am.

Then my HOF told me SLT were messing with all the CAGs and had altered data by accident.

Well, I got an email from our principal today saying he's meeting with other colleges next week and will let us know the outcome next Wednesday or Thursday. He also put great emphasis on June 1st being the earliest date and being likely to move, and that they will listen to any concerns. So...hopeful?

Then an email from DD's school asking if we're sending kids in after half term to which I answered NO! (Unless I have no other option).

I see Gavin is in the commons. Army of volunteers to catch up in the summer. Think they are missing that most kids will be on the same boat educationally.

IMMEDIATE: JOINT EDUCATION UNION STATEMENT

Wednesday 13 May 2020: for immediate release TUC press office: 020 7467 1248

Education unions’ statement on the safe reopening of schools

Unions with members in the education sector are today (Wednesday) publishing a joint statement on the safe reopening of schools.

Today’s statement follows a longer statement to the Secretary of State on Friday (8 May), which set out in full detail the principles and tests necessary for the safe reopening of schools. It is signed by AEP, GMB, NAHT, NASUWT, NEU, NSEAD, Prospect, UNISON and Unite.

Full text of today’s statement:

“We all want schools to re-open, but that should only happen when it is safe to do so. The government is showing a lack of understanding about the dangers of the spread of coronavirus within schools, and outwards from schools to parents, sibling and relatives, and to the wider community.

“Uniquely, it appears, school staff will not be protected by social distancing rules. 15 children in a class, combined with their very young age, means that classrooms of 4 and 5-year olds could become sources of Covid-19 transmission and spread. While we know that children generally have mild symptoms, we do not know enough about whether they can transmit the disease to adults. We do not think that the government should be posing this level of risk to our society.

“We call on the government to step back from the 1st June and work with us to create the conditions for a safe return to schools based on the principles and tests we have set out.”

The principles and tests include (see full statement from Friday 8 May, linked to below):

· Safety and welfare of pupils and staff as the paramount principle

· No increase in pupil numbers until full rollout of a national test and trace scheme

· A national Covid-19 education taskforce with government, unions and education stakeholders to agree statutory guidance for safe reopening of schools

· Consideration of the specific needs of vulnerable students and families facing economic disadvantage

· Additional resources for enhanced school cleaning, PPE and risk assessments

· Local autonomy to close schools where testing indicates clusters of new covid-19 cases

Will Gav bother to do anything, or will he just lie and say he’s spoken to them and it’s all fine?

bettybattenburg · 13/05/2020 12:57

If he does say that then I hope the unions follow with another statement if appropriate.

I wonder what the take up of volunteers to teach during the summer holidays will be?

Bet it won’t be paid.

Report
Saucery · 13/05/2020 13:01

Tbh I’d do it unpaid if it is safe. I’m not doing all my hours right now, I love the school and the pupils and want to see them back and happy and caught up socially as much as possible. Some sort of voluntary play scheme to reintegrate and adjust with transition would be fine with me.
But I would be guided by the union stance, because they are the only ones who have got my back right now, by the looks of that statement above.

Report
CarrieBlue · 13/05/2020 13:10

I won’t volunteer unpaid. I probably won’t volunteer paid tbf but unpaid is utterly unacceptable - if we want to be treated better we have to stand up for ourselves because MN proves the general public don’t give a stuff about us. And eroding our holidays is the thin edge of getting rid of the one perk to teaching.

Report
Asuitablecat · 13/05/2020 13:10

I know we're all guilty, but I think going for the 'ignore' option on other threads will save our sanity. Usual suspects don't listen anyway.
