You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

Bosco (not that creepy wee puppet surely?!) that is a very good post. I sometimes look to see what is being said about us but there are so many at the moment there is no pleasure or support in it so if I get neither of these why be on mumsnet? My TES log in is my real name so I'll need a new account, just reading it for now!
That joint union statement seems very sensible.
Just watching footage of people on the tube today with not a sign of social distancing Sad

Appuskidu · 13/05/2020 13:14

Doesn’t sound like he’s going to engage.

If "volunteering" goes ahead in the holidays, then that will open the floodgates for the "Well they managed without 6 weeks holiday this year so they can do it every year"

yes we are are lazy workshy wasters

FrippEnos · 13/05/2020 13:21

Gav has said that he is in talks with unions/teachers etc.

But they will take the medical advice from PHE, which would be sensible
If
He was actually speaking to unions etc. and took their advice as seriously.

I wonder if they will make it compulsory given that some staff have been working on a week on week off basis but still getting full pay?

Saucery · 13/05/2020 13:29

They could, in theory, present us with Time Owed, betty, minus the CPD done at home. Support staff, not teachers.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 13/05/2020 13:31

All my lessons and form of gone online - I have two screens on the go and I have my gaming headset on. Work has been set and assessed. Reports writing. Online extra curricular done. I have been working and so will not be working during the school holidays - peeps cant have it both ways

Thanks Appu, one thing that rarely seems to get mentioned is that school is possibly working ok at the moment as far as I can tell it's usually around 3-4 children per group, which I note is roughly what Denmark and others have done, perhaps up to 5-7.

Also, staff are on a rota, which looks different everywhere where but does mean if they get symptoms there's cover and "breaks" from the group which will help to stop infection in the current set up.

15 and all staff in is a different kettle of fish. We will need a huge number of extra school staff too imo. Loads of consultants and even hospital based psychologists (I know one) were redeployed from their roles to be available on the wards, even if just doing basic nursing tasks such as bed pans etc.

Apart from huge amounts or reorganisation and ppe, schools will need more staff and either more space or children are part time.

WHO has been working a week on week off basis? I haven't heard any teacher mention that?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 13/05/2020 13:41

@Mistressiggi - definitely not my school. I am juggling two screens, a gaming headset we are fully online. I am spending lunch dishing out workpoints for work not uploaded

@bettybattenburg - there is a like button as well!

He’s a national treasure. How very dare you.

WHO has been working a week on week off basis? I haven't heard any teacher mention that?

Tiny village primary schools with hardly any pupils, week on week off for the staff looking after key workers children. Work is being done in the 'week off' but nowhere near full time work.

Piggywaspushed · 13/05/2020 14:37

So, yep, now we have had an email about year 10 and 12 being back June 1st 'in some form' and also about using a different online learning platform.

Please tell me Adonis hasn't got his way and filmed lessons are going to be the expectation

bettybattenburg · 13/05/2020 14:52

Interesting reading about the return to school from the NGA

greathat · 13/05/2020 15:44

Just think about how much learning takes place when a "terribly dangerous" spider or wasp is in the room. Can you imagine what it's going to be like trying to get work out of year 9

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/05/2020 16:48

That's interesting betty.

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/05/2020 17:13

@TheHoneyBadger is it you that was asking for maths help/advice for Y8/9. Happy to try and help - do you want to PM me?

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 17:16

Thank you Mrs - will pm.

Mistressiggi · 13/05/2020 17:52

@bettybattenburg so not week on/week off at all then is it ConfusedHmm

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 18:15

mistress - I think it was a TA talking about working one week on and one off as that was what their school was making them do. Ie. they were in school full time taking care of kw kids full time one week and out of work the next week.

Other schools have made them fill their 'not at school' time with training or modifying work set by teachers for sen kids for example. By the sounds of it on mn some schools have furloughed their TAs (maybe just private schools? not sure).

I may be wrong but I remember noting the misunderstanding when it occurred but not getting round to commenting and the TA in question didn't repost and correct for whatever reason. Maybe this is her week on in school on pro rata minimum wage ie. less than minimum wage because it's not like she can take another job for six weeks in the summer when she's likely got her own kids to look after hence being willing to work for 9k a year.

Mistressiggi · 13/05/2020 19:05

The reply at 2.35 seemed to be talking about a teacher. Anyway. It just seemed a strange thing to be reading in here!
