Ham are now asking to be called "public figures".. wtf! They wanted to be private citizens which is why they left the RF..Is this to try & get security.
Good on King Charkes nipping their shit in the bud & reminding them of their station!

Harry and Meghan ‘caught off guard’ by King’s decision over their status

The couple were reportedly ‘surprised’ by the memorandum issued by King Charles

So many people claiming to be knowledgeable about how they spend their time… their motivations … their aspirations.

It’s most peculiar!

😂

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! That’s hilarious!

Because H and M are such private people, aren’t they?

It's not, but I love that you feel the need to jump to defend them.

So many people do similar work. Just because they're not turn the mines 25 hours a day, 8 days a week, doesn't mean they don't work.

Now that Harry's announced his 'September Schedule', it's all clear to me: He's planning to carry on like a 'working royal' until KC and PW give in and take him back in an effort to control him.
PH (and MM is she's in tow) going to all these events will make them/him a de facto working royal and will make RF's insistence that PH is NOT a working royal look ridiculous because, in fact, he will be working and doing exactly the same 'work' as the 'working royals'.

I just spotted that and honestly thought Private Eye had already had a crack at him. It’s just jaw-droppingly pompous, unselfish-aware and….actually hilarious.

What is wrong with him/them? What sort of PR people have they taken on, fgs? Or maybe they’ve overruled their own advisers and come up with this themselves.

It reminds me of a sad case I read about once, where parents had failed to secure a place for their child at the secondary school of their choice. They just put him in the uniform and sent him there on the first day of the school year, hoping no-one would notice he wasn’t actually enrolled.

H - BE TOLD! You’re not a working royal - get over yourself.

I think you'll find that a lot of the "public engagements" will dry up quickly.

They could have just come back to the UK and lived a quiet life but they didn't.

CoffeeCantata · 12/09/2026 08:00

The more I hear and read, the more convinced I am that H is having a mid-life crisis. We know he’s daft, but his recent behaviour is absolutely deluded and embarrassing.

Or some of mental breakdown, which given what he must have seen when in the services, would not be a total surprise.

Sereine · 12/09/2026 08:16

Prince Harry has announced a string of pseudo-royal appearances in the UK and US as he and Meghan labelled the King’s description of them as 'private citizens' unrealistic. The Duke of Sussex will support charities on both sides of the Atlantic in what his team described as his 'September public engagements'

Anyone else picture Harry desperately leafing through his diary for every appointment that might conceivably be described as a public engagement?

BunnyBunbunbun · 12/09/2026 08:19

Greygreenlandscape654 · 11/09/2026 21:48

I’m not remotely muddled about it.

The statement changes absolutely nothing.

And while they are not official working royals, Harry remains the son of the current king and the brother of the next king. He is also Diana’s son which will always spark press interest.

He is part of the family whether they like it or not. So he will be invited to the King’s funeral and the coronation whenever those two things take place and presumably other family events?

(Let’s hope they don’t cost cost British taxpayers a combined total of approximately £233.7 million this time.)

So Harry will always be associated with monarchy as long as he lives. It’s strange how the hereditary monarch himself, his heir, and their supporters don’t seem to understand this.

You've muddled up a working royal - i.e. a member of the royal family who represents the King and, by extension, the British state - with someone who is a member of the royal family.

Harry is not a working royal and does not represent the King as the head of state of the United Kingdom. In that sense, he is a private citizen and not a working royal. He may also be a public figure in that he is well known, but he is still a private citizen as regards the constitution and institutions of the United Kingdom.

It's strange that you've muddled up being associated with the royal family with representing the British head of state.

SaltyTea · 12/09/2026 08:21

On X, people are adding community notes to reports of H's 'public' engagements referencing the Lord Chamberlain's letter and his status as a 'private citizen.' I think H has spent so long railing against the tabloid press he has overlooked the fact that he is operating in a different media landscape now.

Sereine · 12/09/2026 08:22

Greygreenlandscape654 · 11/09/2026 12:09

But that’s an even more absurd argument to say that the son of the monarch and the brother to the next king doesn’t qualify as a public figure.

I think people are being deliberately obtuse about this bc they almost gleefully want them to fail at anything they do

And when people say they want to be private citizens; first they never wanted that, they always wanted to continue doing charity work in some capacity and second they can’t just try and do ordinary work bc the press would ruin it for them, so what do you expect them to do?

Edited

Well, no, there are plenty of members of the RF doing "normal work" with the Press taking little or no interest. If H and M just kept their heads down and got on with low-profile jobs, the press would just drift away.

Thousands of private citizens do charity work every day. The problem is that the Sussexes only want to do eye-catching charity work in front of the cameras, they don't want to do the hard graft. And they still only want press attention on their terms. It's hardly surprising they don't get the publicity that they want.

No, they won't. It will just be the same round of the few charities who want to be associated with them. The vast majority don't.

The WellChild awards which Harry apparently loves supporting are an example of the slightly cringy charities they go for. I think a lot of people are very uneasy about them, because of the implication that those who don't win somehow aren't ill enough, or their families aren't caring enough, despite whatever degree of hell they might be going through. But for H they provide what he perceives as some great photo opportunities, and they are one of the few charities that want him, so that's all that matters.

But then, there are lots of other people who will inevitably be invited to the coronation and any Royal weddings. Various politicians, heads of churches, office holders like the Lord Chamberlain, Whoever the equivalent of Elton John is at that time. As for "part of the family", sure, but then they'll be shoved in the third or fourth row with all of the other cousins, uncles, aunts etc. None of it makes them automatically "associated with the monarchy" other than in the fairly tenuous sense that people like the Armstrong-Jones children or the Duke of Gloucester's are now.

I agree with this. At the moment, every little thing is scrutinized and, yes, many people, press included, are desperate for them to fail at everything they do

They should lay low for a while. Let the hype die down and then reassess what they want from life, with proper advice, from people who actually have their best interests at heart, and work out if it is realistic.

Play the long game. But they don't seem to be interested in that. They seem to want it all now and on their terms and neither seem bright enough or humble enough to realise that just being Harry and Megan isn't enough to gain the positive press and attention they want, and the whole victim role when they do gain negative press or things dont go their way doesn't help.

Nitgel · 12/09/2026 08:45

I dont mind them and couldn't care less what they do.

Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and PUBLIC FIGURES

That's why..

They won't lay low and do the decent grown up thing of just living quietly.

Harrys got a 'i'm Diana's son poor me i deserve everything handed to me on a plate NOW' complex and MM wants to be Princess Megain more than anything in the world.

They deserve each other. I wish they would fuck off.

Yes well that’s what happens in dysfunctional families.

Depends if you see the father-son relationship, or the sibling relationship, as “tenuous” or not doesn’t it?

They can’t just fuck off and lay low though can they because a thousand commentators making podcasts or writing articles are dependent on them for income at this point.

Everyone says “oh they can live quietly like Princess Anne or Edward” but when those two were newly married and had children, mobile phones weren’t invented, or they weren’t as common, and the media landscape was completely different to how it is today.

Oh fgs - can’t you see that H is a super-privileged spoilt brat with an emotional age of about 10 who’s made a career of whingeing about having the best gig in the world- all that wealth and privilege with none of the restrictions and duties that his brother will have?

He’s an awful human being and totally unself-aware .

I presume this is a joke.
Obviously, they're not not making announcements, for example, about Harry's September "engagements" for the good of various commentators.
Unless "Commentators in Crisis" is their new charitable venture?

Spurious argument.
Many famous people live quietly in the "media landscape" as it is today.
What have mobile phones got to do with it?

Again, I haven’t muddled it up!

I am very clear on who are working members of the RF and who are not!

What is funny is the fact that we have a hereditary monarchy where the crown passes down from monarch to monarch who each have a family and yet it is supporters of this system who can’t see that the “Harry problem” came about because of it.

I remember Prince Philip once arguing on tv that the hereditary system was good because you got an entire family for the price of one monarch, without acknowledging that this is only true if the other family members are up to the job and not potential criminals or alleged abusers of trafficked women. Or they are not weak and damaged like Harry. Princess Margaret had her picture taken in the bath wearing a tiara fhs!

The truth is it’s a bad system for the royals themselves and it’s a bad system for us! The heirs are vaunted and the spares often fall to bits.

And no one can escape the fact that had Prince Charles died on the polo field or when some foreign student shot at him on stage, then Prince Andrew would be king now and we would have no power over that decision.

Can no one see the irony?

Take a look at the Royal Family board on here.

For every thread about different members of the family, there are about five or six for Meghan and Harry.

One of them discussing their PR disasters is in its 37th version.

The very people who ridicule the idea of them being public figures are making them so.

And you’re on every one of them; while we’re talking about irony 😂
