To me the incidents which we know of (it’s unlikely they were the only ones) all shout entitlement to me, combined with a highly unattractive tendency towards enjoying humiliating people who can’t hit back.

I think that the whole thing is a tragedy.

The reality is that the RF are short on people. Princess Anne is hugely overworked for her age and at th3 end of the day, King Charles is getting older and ill. The QC is also ill. The POW has only recovered from cancer. PH might have been a useful addition.

Why does this matters? As someone with a disabled son I acknowledge that royal patronage is useful for eg fund raising. I was involved in a NAS ball and we had no hope of getting Princess Anne who is too busy. There are other disability groups that my son uses and they lack patronage which would be really useful for events etc . They could do with high profile support to fund raise etc.

We literally have the RF living up the road so actually an extra member would be useful because like it or not, the RF are stretched too thin. It’s only when you see the work that charities do and how association with the RF helps that you realsoe their significance.

why is that important? As an example, my son was unable to talk and we could not get even a private SALT at the time for love nor money. However I found out that using Drama, memorising lines scaffolded my son’s attempts to talk. The transformation was immense. I was lucky in that my DH is well paid so we could pay for private 1:1 drama lessons and also apply his DLA to this and other therapies. We wanted to raise funds to create Drama classes for those with language issues with ASD. We hoped to use a NAS ball However it was a nightmare getting prizes for the auction and selling tickets. We raised funds but not enough and those funds got consumed into the small swimming group for ASD. Princess Ann was president of NAS but even thought she is literally up th3 road she is really too busy to attend. in the past, when there was more of a RF you could get an attendance eg Princess Ann attended a children in need ball etc. Now there are just too few people in the RF. Poor Princess Anne is stretched in a thousand different directions. POW team want or focus mainly on mental health and young childhood.

With the skill set that Meghan has she could do amazing work for those with language disorders / ASD as Drama is seen as a great help with developing language skills. Many families dealing with this don’t have access to SALT or drama lessons. Judy Dench has been amazingly supportive but she is getting older now and retired/ has lost her sight.

So I repeat that the whole thing is a tragedy.

While the charity work that the royal family do is great, the point of the royal family and of the Sovereign (king/queen) is not charity work. Since when did the royals become patrons to any random charity or organisation that asked them? Besides, Harry and Meghan still do charity work so you can still get them if you need a public figure.

If the RF feels it genuinely needs more working royals to act as charity patrons, then they can rope Beatrice and Eugenie in and activate Louise's and Philip's HRHs. But being patrons of a never-ending list of charities, however small the charity or group might be, is not really the task of the royal family.

Princess Ann was the patron of NAS - it’s not a random charity. But she is overworked. The Countess of Wessex is now the patron but she is also overworked. NAS is not a ‘random’ charity.

I'm not sure what you mean by Meghan's skill set, but you can still get her to be patron of your charity now she is back in the UK. She and Harry are still free to do charity work and are public figures, so you can still get her if you write to the office of the Sussexes. I'm sure she'd be interested. She is high profile so would be able to attract publicity for your fund raisers.

It may not be a random charity but you seem to think the job of the royal family is to work for whichever random charity asks them to.

I'm not sure why you can't get Meghan though now she's back in the UK. King Charles said Harry and Meghan will continue with their charity work and they are public figures, so she could still be a good choice. She will certainly be interested, won't she?

How many working members of the royal family do you think there should be to satisfy all the charities in the country? Perhaps George will have five children and they will have five children each so maybe things will balance out again in a generation or so. Perhaps 35 working royals will be enough.

Patronage is a really important part of the RF and has always been.

I think time will fly and suddenly there’ll be the Wales children as young adults and it’s always possible that say, Zara, might step up once her super-active equestrian and child-rearing years are behind her. Yes, I know she hasn’t been a working royal in the way her mother has, but times and people change and by the time she’s in her 50s she might decide to step up.

But however scarce the royals, I don’t see a role for The Treacherous Two.

If the charity's already got a Royal patron, I would have thought it was unlikely to get another one just because the first one is busy.
