I don’t think my comment was vitriol.

My issue is more with how T&T portray themselves. I personally think the act of shutting down a huge chunk of NYC, including public transportation facilities, is a gross display of wealth. To then have a large part of the city facing a blackout (and NYC citizens were warned to moderate energy use to stop this!), and your wedding is going ahead and likely being prioritised, is wrong imo. The criticism of Taylor especially has been ongoing for a while - including her private jet use. Quite ironic for William, who paints himself as a climate activist.

Travis is a sportsman, yes, but he plays American football. Not football. So I don’t see why he would be the obvious first choice for a football chat?!

I never said your comment was "vitriol".
That is a complete fabrication.

You absolutely mentioned vitriol in response to my comment in particular. Very strange.

I do like that you have no response to my other points though!

I will not respond to someone who completely misrepresents what I have written. Not the basis of a good discussion to twist someone's words.
It was simple and clear what I wrote.
No further engagement with someone who doesn't understand that.
Read what people write, not what you imagine.

I'm confused. William was still in the UK when he appeared on the show - right? He didn't fly out to the US.

What concerned me was the small businesses around MSG said thst the barricades for the wedding blocked them from from getting customers from what had been anticipated as a busy weekend. Do T & T screwed the small businesses.

However, all the city events - concerts, ball. Dropping, etc. Used up a huge amount of energy. The flyovers dumped lots of toxin in the air. There is a lot of NYC festivities sucking up power.

BTW, my building is in a brownout due to reduced power. No elevators, AC and fans affected, etc. And I'm not on a Manhattan grid.

Trump insulted the UK straight after the last State visit, implying we are going to hell, that Sadiq Khan is introducing Sharia law to London, attacked our policy on renewable energy and as part of NATO we stood back in Afghanistan
Not sure the charm offensive worked!

Donald Trump should never be taken as representative of the US as a whole, just as we are not all like Liz Truss.

I hope the US choose a sensible person as their next president.

Wow, that's bad, how on earth are you coping? Are you getting any kind of support, what about vulnerable people?
Yes, to answer your question, William did the podcast from the UK.

Butteredtoast55 · 04/07/2026 08:57

They also recorded the podcast a week or two ago so I'm not sure how some people can shoehorn in criticism that it's somehow tone deaf when there's a heatwave happening or a big fancy wedding affecting NYC that William has nothing to do with. Or implying that he's a bit of a hypocrite for associating with Taylor Swift who uses private jets.
The derailing and name calling going on recently throughout threads that are just trying to focus on fun and positivity has been really unnecessary.

I think, in general, when you’re a member of the royal family you should at least be aware of what is being said before you endorse someone. Taylor Swift has come under a huge amount of criticism for a lot of different things lately. I’m not sure I’d want to be associated with that if I was as high profile as William, is all.

And did you see, he’s calling the US Democrats a bunch of communists today. He wants his head carved into Mount Rushmore. He’s extremely tricky to deal with and I always thought Keir Starmer managed him well in the circs.

I think sometimes people lose perspective. It's a nice, light-hearted podcast. Good points about the circumstances and context. It's certainly not "time deaf". It's just something entertaining and good natured.

I disagree, he was too servile in my opinion and it got us nowhere
You have to stand up to bullies, like Sanchez of Spain and Carney of Canada have done

I agree he's impossible to deal with.

Love the idea that William shouldn’t have done the Kelce brothers’ podcast because they play a different sport and the fiancé of one of them uses private jets. Apparently this podcast about sport was really an endorsement of Taylor? And it was really bad because they used some of his titles in the intro, but not all? But the titles were made up, but then again they weren’t? The criticisms of William get ever more creative, it’s almost as entertaining as watching the Sussexes’ PR “strategy”.

Yep awful people, donating $26million to worthy causes.

I don’t think it’s creative, it’s just basic morals from some of us.

Taylor (and by connection, Travis), have been under fire lately for a multitude of things. Including cosying up to Trump and aligning themselves with MAGAts, and excessive private jet use. I think those are valid criticisms and I do wonder why William decided to endorse that. Especially when there are multiple British football podcasts he could’ve gone on!

Edited

$26 million from a net worth of $2.1 billion, and out of earnings of well over $500 million a year.

That’s 1.24% of her net worth, or 5.2% of her yearly income. It’s essentially the same as someone giving £1000 to charity across the year. Yes, it’s a huge amount of money, but it needs to be put into the context of her gross wealth and income.

The point is, it's a lot of money, which will make a difference.

Yup. It’s not exactly difficult to realise they’d be discussing football as the World Cup is currently taking place in North America. Pretty topical I’d say.

The point is, you have to contextualise it. It’s not the same as someone doing a massive amount of work to fundraise a huge amount of money. It’s a drop in the ocean and was announced when her reputation had taken a hit because she was being criticised for her actions.

Like calls to like though, so maybe it’s no wonder William is called to them.

PW is reaching out successfully to an audience extending beyond the UK and exercising very effective soft power

What concrete benefits do you see accruing to the UK?

‘Concrete benefits’? I suggest you educate yourself on what ‘soft power’ means… 🙄

What soft power is there?

I promise you, the type of people who listen to this podcast are not the type of people bothered by international affairs. Most of them will skip this week because it’s not about the wedding

OK so now let's compare with what Bezos or Musk have given to charities, then, if this is now merely what we expect from the mega rich..

Can we have some more detail on this supposed 'cosying up to Trump' please? I do hope it's more than 'we think some of her in laws may vote Republican' as otherwise that would be lame.

We absolutely can! I am morally opposed to billionaires and trillionaires, no matter the gender. But given this is a thread about Taylor, let’s keep it on topic eh?

Oh right. Cos you said

you have to contextualise it

But doing that and pointing out the differences is 'going off topic'. Gotcha. Please direct me to your thread criticising male billionaires and I'll join you there.
