JeffG I saw it first thing this morning and was 😮 and someone had quoted and just commented on it now hence my post.

You were 😮?
Are you new here? 😉

That’s a good point about Williams climate activism when Taylor clearly doesn’t think much about climate change with her own carbon footprint from private jet use and moving her stage all around the world on her very large Eras tour.

The Royals are all about PR though, they have to be. Taylor and Travis are popular and William will use that.

It’s all a bit ick, but not surprising.

I like Taylor, and tbf to her, she doesn’t preach about climate change to us and then go and do something different so that is fair enough. William looks very hypocritical. I think he has used private jets, he definitely uses helicopters a lot and is now getting pally with Taylor and her new husband, who couldn’t give a shite about the environment, all for clicks and likes. Ick!

No, it’s not. You didn’t watch the podcast or you’d see that they all genuinely like one another.

When you like others you don’t cancel them because they have a different opinion on one issue. You don’t choose not to interact with someone simply because they may see or do things a different way than you.

This podcast had nothing to do with politics. It was just a good fun chat between interesting people. For me, William doing this shows leadership in a way that we rarely see in the world now.

Perhaps you’d rather our leaders be like Trump and say ugly, hateful things about people if he doesn’t agree with everything they do?

This ⬆️

It’s three blokes chatting football, that’s it.
Why do some people have to try and turn it into something it isn’t.
What fun sponges!

I have watched it, I’ve watched most of their podcasts in fact as I’m originally from Kansas City and my family are mostly Chiefs fans, although my mum is from Philadelphia so Go Birds! Their podcasts are always fun and they seem to get along with everyone they’ve ever had on. They’re hardly going to have someone on and not appear to get on well.

I’m not saying they don't get on anyway, I’m just saying the optics don’t look great from the climate activist point of view and they could have kept any friendship and chats private.

It will have been weighed up and decided that it’s a great PR move, for all involved, which no doubt it is. The climate stuff can pale into insignificance for a while when William can be promoted on a very popular podcast, one half of whom is now married to probably the biggest music artist in the world. The podcast is about PR not friendship and it’s silly to pretend it isn’t.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 04/07/2026 13:31

I’m not a fan of William but I can’t see anything wrong with this. But then he is the former president of the English FA and current patron of English FA. A big reason the World Cup is in the us was supposed to be to help the US see football as a men’s sport not just a women’s. this comes under the sort of thing he should be doing.

simpsonthecat · 04/07/2026 13:36

It's his huge hobby, football, and whilst it was an OK podcast, he seemed relaxed and they all enjoyed it, I do take issue with 'it shows leadership we rarely see in the world today'.
Surely chatting on a podcast about your favourite subject isn't showing leadership.... don't get that, sorry

I think you should have prefaced all remarks with the fact that you support the Eagles.

William actually enjoys a higher approval rating than Taylor Swift; though she’s better known worldwide.

I don’t doubt there will have been a discussion about any appearances he makes; it’s obligatory and I’m sure a real pain. But that doesn’t mean he personally choses every action for PR purposes.

That's interesting @FancyBiscuitsLevel - obviously I knew that football (soccer!) wasn't very high up in the sports league in the US, but hadn't realised the nuance between the men's and women's game.

Huh? I said most of my family are Chiefs fans and my mum supports the Eagles.

I haven’t lived in the US for 15 years and now support a shit English team in the championship as it’s the team from where my partner originally comes from.

It’s all PR.

Why would you do that? You don’t have to support any team, especially one that you think is ‘shit’.

lol. They really are shit. My partner is a lifelong fan and even he says they’re shit. The English and their self deprecation he says. I ‘support’ them in name because I live in England, my partner is from there originally and he and our kids support them. It’s not like I have a season ticket, that would be pushing it.

Surely that's for @CathyorClaire to decide. She's an adult and quite capable of making her own decisions!
As a friend I would have thought it far nicer to have messaged her in private if you are worried about her, rather than post telling her the thread is not for her 😮😮

I agree, a friend does not call you out publicly of they are concerned, they would reach out to you in private. I wouldn't consider someone a friend if they did that to me.

Friends? I wouldn't class someone on a forum I have never met/ spoke to on a call/ video chat a friend. Think some people get far too invested.

I agree with you about practising what you preach. If someone chooses to make environmentalism a major part of their public image, it's reasonable to expect them to try to minimise their own environmental impact. Otherwise, it risks looking hypocritical.

I also agree with your point about the PR aspect. Championing ebvironemntal initiatives is positive, but it can come across as a form of greenwashing if the person's own lifestyle doesn't reflect the message they're promoting. It can feel as though the public-facing campaigns are there to say "look, I care", while there's little willingness to make meaningful changes personally.

That's why I think some of the criticism is understandable. People generally have more respect for those who try to live by the standards they encourage others to follow.

So don’t espouse a view and then talk to the husband of a person who doesn’t appear to espouse that same view. Got it. ✅

Presumably you feel the same then about Harry and Meghan’s use of private jets, and their posting photos of their children online, and breaching the privacy of other people, and briefing journalists for PR purposes, and speaking about how bullying and trolling is wrong?

Why are you bringing them into this thread? Someone made a comment about preaching and how TS doesn't preach about the enivornment and I agree with them about it and how zi find those who do and then try to geeenwash their environmental impact. Its pretty much a universal/ general comment I am making in response to what someone else wrote.

They’re all just such hypocrites that it’s actually funny. Climate change matters except when I want to travel by private jet or helicopter or push myself on a podcast with people who could care less about climate change. Children’s privacy matters except when I post photos of the backs of their heads online to gain interest.

William, Harry and their wives look very silly.

More football, English or American, and less Royals for me I think. They’ve crossed over on this podcast and drawn me in though. 😂

This thread is about a popular sport podcast William appeared on and not about Taylor Swift, the environment or anything else.

Since you want to discuss the environment please do tell me how you think these people should travel? So you expect Harry and Meghan to bring the kids to England on some cheap flight? I suppose you think William and Family should just ride the bus whenever they need to go anywhere?

I’ve also talked about Taylor and climate change on the thread. You can’t really police a thread like that and you did mention Taylor in your title. Threads do go off on tangents all the time and when you think of William and Taylor together, one of the things that stands out is their apparent very different values on climate change. He preaches about it and she is one of the highest celeb polluters, who has just done a huge tour with a large carbon footprint, so it’s a talking point.

The options are not the extremes of bus or helicopter for Williams shorter trips. A car maybe, like others do.

Commercial flights may be suitable at times, why not, especially when you preach about climate change. Be prepared to practice what you preach or it will be discussed. Why try to shut down that discussion?

We’ve also had talk of burnt ends and cheese on the thread which are also tangents. It’s normal for a thread not to strictly stick to the topic. Let people chat.
