Good to hear. Our cheese is good compared to spray cheese lol

What works for me are those that come over here and really love our food, there's one guy who has millions of followers and he has been all over the UK up and down loving everything from fish 'n chips, a roast farm to fork, to a cornish pasty.

Kalani and Savannah? Love them - so great seeing the UK through fresh, enthusiastic eyes.

You’ve just proved my point.

Naturally I don't think I'm guilty as charged but if you do maybe just argue the points I make and stop focusing on style?

Yes! I love the positive attitude as we're typified by bad teeth and bad food 🤣

I have done in the past, but due to the tone of your posts recently, no thanks.

I think that reputation is thankfully well in the past now.

American cheese is mostly a horror. Good to hear British cheese is in ample supply in New York, at least.

Adam Richman travelled around the UK sampling some lovely produce.

The Mac and (Red Leicester) cheese doughnut looked sublime.

I very much enjoyed his wander round the UK. By the look of it, he did too.

Yes, I liked his programmes too. He certainly loves his food!

I love these Instagrammers who I’ve followed for years when they were doing insane hiking challenges across the US.

Now they have a little baby so decided to introduce him to the hiking challenge life in Scotland.

The wife of the couple needs gluten and dairy free food and was blown away by the options she could find in the UK. She took a whole suitcase home.

They called him Lord of the Isles.

But not Duke of Rothsay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew. If I were Scottish I might be annoyed at the omission, or glad for the lack of reminder.

Basic supermarket cheese over here in the US is a horror but there are loads of wonderful cheese makers across the different states.

mathanxiety · 03/07/2026 23:44

YYY to excellent American cheese. It's not all a horror story by a long shot.

Goodness.

This seems pretty surprising when W's already under fire for his supine work ethic

Guess simpering at sycophants is a little more soothing than sweltering in velvet curtains while being barracked by protestors asking who knew what and when about MW.

Cathy , I respect and what is more, I genuinely like you and consider you a friend, this thread is not for you , it is not compatible with your real republican views and that is ok , sometimes things are not for all of us .

Do you actually have alerts set up? I mean about American cheese! I’m off to search the internet for “good American cheese”.

You could check out Ina Garten ‘Barefoot Contessa’ on the Food Network too. She’s always bobbing in and out of cheese delis on the Hamptons. She’s a bit coy about the pricing though!

Are you serious? Those are his titles. A person is entitled to think they are ludicrous, but here we are. PW is reaching out successfully to an audience extending beyond the UK and exercising very effective soft power but unfortunately you are so blinded by biased you can’t appreciate it.

Fascinating take - couldn’t the “blinded by bias” accusation also be levelled at those on her breathless with excitement that “gasp” William knows something about football? 🙄

BemusedAmerican · 04/07/2026 07:58

I haven't been able to find the dry crumbly sharp cheddar made in the US that is found in some cheddars from Scotland and Englidh Cathedral brand cheese. Even the sharp US cheddars lack the dryness and the crystals.

Maytag makes great blue and nice cheddar but the cheese is pricey. I send Maytag as a gift.

Trader Joe's has cheap US cheeses but I find you really have to used them quickly to prevent mold.

Rhaidimiddim · 03/07/2026 21:30

They missed out the Scottish ones

Jason definitely said "Prince & High Steward of Scotland".

MrsFinkelstein · 04/07/2026 08:10

simpsonthecat · 03/07/2026 21:16

I have to say I have no idea what 'soft power' means when it comes to the US at the moment.
Starmer can go crawling up Trumpy's arse with a second royal visit embarrassing and it means nothing. He would turn on you for literally anything so Kate sat next to him smiling and pretending she's enjoying his company at a royal visit means absolutely nowt. Ditto William on some podcast that is primed for the US. It means nothing AFAIC

If someone can show me true value of this I'd listen.

The fact the UK hasn't been hit as hard by Trump's ridiculous tariffs compared to other countries showed that Starmer and KC3 did exactly what they had to do.

We all know Trump can change 180, but you get the beat deals signed you can. Macron used the Bastille Day celebrations to fluff Trump, Starmer and KC3 used the Crown and the 2nd state visit.

It's what you do with toddlers.

What on earth does that mean? It's a discussion about a podcast. No-one is breathless.
So much bitterness and hyperbole.

I find this quite out of touch. T&T are coming under a lot of scrutiny for their choices surrounding the wedding - including the excessive use of power while much of NYC is under a blackout due to the heat.

I think sometimes the complicated worlds of politics and diplomacy are hard to understand. Sometimes people reduce it to juvenile slogans, but it's not that simple, is it?

A podcast about football is hardly "out of touch". There's a World Cup on, Travis is a sportsman, William is a football fan and president of the FA.
Why it's attracting vitriol on here I don't know (although I think some posters must be tongue in cheek).

sashagabadon · 04/07/2026 08:22

I enjoyed it. A fun chat and a great idea as it mixes multiple completely different otherwise unrelated things. Taylor Swift wedding, World Cup and July 4th. Great idea whoever thought of it. And William is genuinely into football, genuinely knows Taylor Swift and Travis and is FA president too so full circle

I don’t think my comment was vitriol.

My issue is more with how T&T portray themselves. I personally think the act of shutting down a huge chunk of NYC, including public transportation facilities, is a gross display of wealth. To then have a large part of the city facing a blackout (and NYC citizens were warned to moderate energy use to stop this!), and your wedding is going ahead and likely being prioritised, is wrong imo. The criticism of Taylor especially has been ongoing for a while - including her private jet use. Quite ironic for William, who paints himself as a climate activist.

Travis is a sportsman, yes, but he plays American football. Not football. So I don’t see why he would be the obvious first choice for a football chat?!

simpsonthecat · 04/07/2026 08:24

Trump insulted the UK straight after the last State visit, implying we are going to hell, that Sadiq Khan is introducing Sharia law to London, attacked our policy on renewable energy and as part of NATO we stood back in Afghanistan
Not sure the charm offensive worked!
