Harry Says His Fight Against Tabloids Is a 'Central Piece' of Rift with the Royal Family

Is there anyone in the public eye more delusional and lacking in self-awareness than Harry?

The Duke of Sussex, 39, sat down for a new interview for ITV's documentary Tabloids on Trial, premiering on Thursday, July 25. In a preview released a day before the airing, Harry discussed his reasons for publicly pursuing lawsuits against publications over allegations of phone hacking and other unlawful acts — a contrast from his brother, Prince William, who reportedly quietly received a "very large sum of money" in a settlement from News Group Newspapers (NGN) in 2020 amid a claimed "secret agreement" with the royals.
ITV's Rebecca Barry asked Prince Harry in the clip, "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?"
"I think that's certainly a central piece to it," the Duke of Sussex replied. "That's a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press."
"I've made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did it as a family," he continued. "I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you're in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. But I'm doing this for my reasons."

"a little mean"?

She accused a member of the Head of State's family of racism. Without naming them. While the BLM movement was at its height. (And before anyone gets semantic and argues no she didn't, she later accepted an award for standing up to racismin the RF.)

That alone has ongoing repercussions for UK-US relations.

But because they want to move forward, we're not supposed to hold this against them?

Oh, and if their idea of moving forward did seem to involve laying off the RF we'd all be relieved.

Edited

Absolutely this, and I just came back to post similarly and saw your excellent comment. They should never be allowed to forget this disgusting interview and the damage it did because they want to “move on”. As it’s been wiped from the internet in anything other than short snippets on comment sites, Oprah Winfrey is clearly not happy with it either - although I am guessing that’s more about her own poor judgement and skills as an interviewer.

How do you know the racial make up of the Sussex Squad?

and more importantly, why is it relevant?

And why would one's skin colour give one more or less of a propensity to be dangerous?

So many questions lol

I've had a none too subtle attack against me on this thread. On numerous threads, actually, I've been outright attacked and had an attempted doxing. I've seen it happen to many posters who have stuck up for the RF in the face of the absolute onslaught of vileness that emanated from certain Sussex supporters and so called republicans. IME of being a regular poster on this board for around 2 years, most of the unpleasantness comes from the side of Sussex supporters. If people don't want to post anymore, that's entirely on them. If they had an argument worth making, they would have stayed and made it. Most of them start bandying about words like "hate" looking for a fight. If they start a fire and then get burned, that's their own fault. They get replaced by new names who start the whole thing off again, putting out the same old information that has been gone over numerous times already, and rolling out the whatabouteries and the thought ending cliches. They then complain when a well informed counter argument is made that they are the victim of unfairness. They are not. They are the victim of their own bad arguments.

I am sorry that happened to you Theinflictuswithrictusgames

I don't defend that either. It's horrid, nasty and unnecessary.

I do not support aggressive posting from either side of the argument.

On the threads I have posted on, it hasn't been the case that "most" of the unpleasantness comes from Sussex supporters. I've seen a lot of condescension and group unpleasantness aimed at those who dare to suggest that the RF might bear some of the responsibility for the rift.

Genuine posters who go against the majority get pilloried.

They have been rounded on, memes have been posted, entirely parallel conversations have been engineered around them, cheese anyone? It's been like fifth form bullying sometimes. All supposedly light hearted but in reality, not very much!

It won't put me off but I am regularly accused of not posting in good faith, not having a right to post here, being a member of the Sussex Squad, asked why I am bothered and basically told to go away. I've had post after post replied to with a personal unpleasant comment that's nothing to do with the topic discussed. That's not very pleasant either!

And sorry but the question of whether hate has been directed at H & M is a subjective one! Nothing to do with trying to start a fight, I call it where I see it but I don't say you are not allowed to see it a different way.

I looked up articles when I first heard of them. They said that were mostly non white.

So they are a defined group then, is that what you are saying? And are they the same people - people of colour - waging a war of hatred and the vilest online abuse against Catherine in particular? Or is that someone else?

Rosiecheeksandacoldnose · 09/08/2024 15:08

Here is one of the articles,

"It’s like the 'Arianators' with Ariana Grande and the 'Beyhive' with Beyonce. It’s a powerful force," ABC News royal contributor Omid Scobie said of the Sussex Squad. "What made it such a passionate group is that they saw someone they identify with and saw her under attack, whether that was from trolls on social media or the tabloids."

BemusedAmerican · 09/08/2024 14:07

If they had moved on, Harry would not be pursuing American awards despite pissing off Americans. Meghan would be enrolled in a reputable online business school learning how to start a business.

To me, they are the ones stuck in the past.

To be fair, they have tried to move on with their business and all they received was unpleasant comments about jam. They can't really win. Damned if they do. Damned if they don't!

Twistybranch · 09/08/2024 15:14

I see it’s kicked off with the usual suspects seeking yet more attention.

Think that’s why they idolise M&H so much and have stuck to their script, mainly: complaining, whining, acting victimised, complaining of their ill treatment, complaining about people’s views if they arent positive towards M&H, not listening to reason, endlessly going over the same stuff even though no one can give a rats ass, endless attention seeking, reporting of others they don’t agree with.
They learned from the best didn’t they!!

Ohpleeeease · 09/08/2024 15:50

FWIW I’m happy to see differing opinions on these threads. I wish the supporters of H & M offered more solid evidence to back up their views. I understand that people “like” them, but I can’t fathom why.

In the face of lies, bullying, treachery, hypocrisy and naked greed, all well documented, I’m fascinated to learn what it is about this couple that dazzles people.

I'll ask the same question again. Are these the people who have waged a campaign of absolute filth online against Catherine? They call themselves the Sussex Squad.

Wellieswithsocks · 09/08/2024 15:57

Someone on Twitter has flagged a prolific pro-H&M commenter ‘Guest Speaker’ on the NYPost / Page Six site that seems to have outed herself as Meghan Markle. This person has made 29,000 comments apparently - they sure need to get a proper job!

Well Meghan does have a lot of time on her hands, she needs something to do whilst waiting for her jam to come to boil.

Mylovelygreendress · 09/08/2024 16:09

Very interesting @Wellieswithsocks . Catherine wasn’t chased ?? There is footage of her online being chased and cameras in her face as she tried to reach her car . And she was up skirted .
Nothing like that happened to Meghan ( thankfully).

Twistybranch · 09/08/2024 16:15

I honestly think these posters would loose their god damn minds if they seen a M&H tattle thread or Reddit.

I honestly don’t understand why they think holding public figures to account, is unwarranted. This and other threads are very tame.

They produced some pictures of some people with some jam. They did not produce any jam. They did not produce a business plan for their jam-making or for ARO.

What they did do (or rather Meghan did - Harry was busy off piste at Aspen being late for his dead mum's awards show) was announce the launch of a jam-making business.

At about the very same time that William was appearing (on time) at his dead mum's awards show.

If they had actually produced any jam that people could buy and try, people might have been talking about the quality of the jam, rather than making unpleasant comments about their actions and behaviour.

I have heard the rumour that Guest Speaker is MM, and co-commenters in the NY Post regularly greet Guest Speaker with "Hi, Meghan".

Do you have any more details on how she outed herself, please? I've often wondered.

There are a couple of other posters on Newsweek who are always there, too.

From 5 years ago?

Reading some of ‘Guest Speakers’ comments, I think the tone of voice varies, as though there’s more than one person using the account. They sound more like Harry to me. Who knows?

I’ve seen this too.
It seems as though the ‘Guest Speaker’ fell into the mode of writing in the first person so it read “I’m not a liar” or something along those lines.

Duchess of Sussex's venture American Riviera Orchard suffers setback

She had hoped to become the queen of the kitchen with the help of some swanky jars of jam. But the Duchess of Sussex 's domestic dream has been put on hold after a trademark setback.

Yeh whats the deal with the ARO jam stuff?

It looks like the from the article, it’s a Netflix venture. So I’m guessing this is part of the 100 million deal? Meghan won’t actually have any outlays, so not really risking anything. Just another box to check to cash in the Netflix cheque.

That’s going to be tricky to sell an image of authenticity when it’s all just part of a Netflix venture.

Also, as we all know H&M are divisive. Why put out a product that very well could be on the receiving end of non stop customer complaints?
late delivery, faulty product, poor customer service, poor reviews of the product. I mean the headlines would write themselves.

Surely it’s better to stick to the tv production work?
