To be fair, there’s no shortage of people not only buying the bullshit but also trying to shout any scepticism down.

If I was in the RF and read some of the posts on MN, yes, I would think a significant portion of the general population were slightly dense. You only have to read some of the criticisms of H&M.

The whole thing is bizarre, with one comms error after another. I tend to land on the side of cock-up rather than conspiracy, but a cock-up of this degree - where the photo alteration has become the story - rather gives the impression that the Royals are panicked. Which in turn gives the impression there’s something to be panicked by.
I hope that’s not the case, but goodness knows at this point.

I agree. It's become so absurd that even people who didn't give it a thought (like me) are now wondering what's going on. In my opinion, something happened to Kate which is seen as "incompatible" with the future queen role (eating disorder? MH issues? suicide attempt?) - something that this society would regard as incompatible with the image the future queen should be projecting. And the RF is completely out of their depth making one error after another.

Agree, I didn’t care about this before and wouldn’t have clicked on any of the many threads, but they’ve drawn so much attention to themselves, it’s become a bit bizarre.

I hope she is okay and being protected from this and this isn’t making her recovery worse.

Yup- I think this too. By releasing very obviously photoshopped photos they are making it a million times worse and as you said, even people I know who usually don't give a toss about the RF are now asking WTF.

With all the money and resources they have, could they not have got someone a bit better at photo editing FFS?

There's enough people who have very strong feelings about members of the royal family that it borders on an obsession so it doesn't surprise me that the RF might think some of the public are stupid.

Just look at how many people have decided to emotionally invest in taking sides in a wealthy version of Jeremy Kyle, or how many posters on here were claiming they were worried sick about Kate because not enough information had been given to them.

For whatever reason the decision was made to keep Kate's health and medical situation private and that's her right. I'm surprised such a well-oiled PR machine has made such a spectacularly silly move with this photo though.

This is a massive PR blunder - which should have been avoided and very least handled better - begs the question why are the PR people so bad are they panicking about something or incompetent.

I think she's put on a considerable amount of weight. Simple as that.

She now understandably doesn't want to be seen (can you imagine the comments?) and the royal family aren't quite sure how to handle the situation.

It's a valid theory but it links to my eating disorder theory. Did she put on weight because she needed to, because she was dangerously underweight? Just weight on its own is more manageable, isn't it, unless it's linked to the MH / and gastro-intestinal issues.

This. But at the same time, why wouldn't Kate do her own Photoshopping? She used to do her own makeup, and the results weren't universally acclaimed. I reckon she thinks she's a bit artistic, and nobody in the inner circle dared to tell her otherwise! (Not meant to sound catty, since I couldn't use eyeliner or photo editing tools for toffee.)

I think she's had a breakdown of some sort. Her's and Williams relationship must be affected by Harry/meghan/charles is unwell. She's got abdominal issues after thinking that was all done after 3 pregnancies with GH. William will be king sooner than anticipated and for her the thought of the coronation etc has given her mental health issues. Also this might sound silly but the Crown final series has shown a lot of her as a younger version and might've brough back bad memories with press etc. She's only human.
