The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

It feels creepy. Not any particular thread but the sun total of the attachment and ownership people express over these women
I agree with you.

Regardless of who they married, these women are not public property, they don't need their bodies picking apart and their appearance scrutinised at every opportunity. Dressing it up as so called concern doesn't make it any less creepy.

One thing I've found very interesting since paying a bit more attention to the RF is just how many people seem to have a weird emotional overinvestment in a bunch of strangers. It seems to go beyond an interest in public figures doing their constitutional roles.

Yes, be it extreme hate or extreme adoration. It’s all just weird and uncomfortable.

I do think Meghan has had it much worse than Catherine when it comes to this obsessive attention. People call Catherine boring, etc and other harsh things but maintaining that persona obviously inspires less attention. A friend said they often felt she was being fetishized by some.

this woman is going to be queen in under 30 years, expecting the press and public to "fuck off" is not really the job description.

Charles is 75 with cancer. Kate has had such a major surgery that she is unable to do any work for 3 months - including online, behind closed doors meeting with dignitaries, and basic ribbon cutting. Yes, the work can be taxing, but it can also be reduced to be very doable for someone who is less physically able (see 90yo+ QEII). Either Kate is lazy, this surgery is far more major than we have been led to believe, or it's something entirely different. Then we have Will (who has had fair critique for being workshy) dropping out of very important engagements with no notice for an allegedly entirely different issue. If it's true that it is a different problem it's concerning there is something else so serious going on, or it is to do with Kate. Either way, not good. The PR has been a disaster.

These people will be heads of state soon, and whether or not you like or agree with a royal family it is very concerning how blinding obvious their lack of preparedness to lead a country with stability and assurance is.

Agree!

Agree, and I think it’s a good reason to end the whole thing.

I can’t believe the Wales’s want this for their own children.

MyNameIsFine · 14/03/2024 17:10

The head of my children's primary school was off work for two whole terms because of "health reasons". I have no idea what the "health reasons" were and I did not demand to evidence that she was ill or still alive during her absence! No photographs were supplied. The very capable deputy head got on with the job and the parents didn't ask any questions. Just because people have a job with a lot of responsibilities doesn't mean you own them!!!

And let’s be honest, it impacted you waaaay more than Kate’s time off impacts any of those demanding to know why.

I think it would be great if everyone just stopped the nonsense online right now so I’m with you on that. It’s insane.

@SummaLuvin Does anyone actually think the RF lead the country?

Agree. I wouldn’t.

But seemingly H&M do....

....having chosen to opt their own children in to this torturous circus with their choice to add royal titles for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

And how would it have gone down if one term in someone had photoshopped her head onto the deputy’s body in the school newsletter?

Do you honestly think anyone would have cared? Or even noticed?

Um… yes. As in this situation, I think it’s the tipping point between “Meh, whatever” and “Seems like something bigger is up than we’re being told.”

It’s in no way comparable. HT absence impacts small group. Localised impact
RF absence is a world news event. millions are interested

Oh for pity’s sake! I would not do much more than glance at a photo of the head while on sick leave! If it was sent as an attachment there is a distinct possibility I wouldn’t even open it. How do people ever get through the day when they have such neurotic distrust requiring forensic analysis of every minor event? I have a family, I have a life, I have things to do - which doesn’t include perusing every photo I’m sent with suspicion. If I even noticed she’d used a different body I’d presume something had happened that meant hers was not first choice I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 19:20

A school newsletter is a bit different from national media.

BenefitWaffle · 14/03/2024 19:20

A school newsletter is a bit different from national media.

Well … why? In actual fact the school head is someone who at least knows you exist and has some genuine impact on your life.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 14/03/2024 19:26

I don’t think it is different tbh. In both cases posited it’s a situation where some deception has gone on to influence others. Whether or not people read school newsletters is beside the point imo.

Calliopespa · 14/03/2024 19:33

The main difference is the school head would probably never end up in the perverse situation of having to send a photo of themselves at a time when they needed to “use” another body part. I have several times met people and thought you are twice the size/ half as attractive/ ten years older than your profile picture that was on your website/you sent ahead of this meeting. And if so, I vaguely - and I really mean vaguely - assume it mattered to them to contrive to look their best/ keep an old photo etc . The most I would think in terms of a negative thought is that they were a bit vain.

Like it or not, her fans have contributed to the pressure to be perfect by actually saying that she is, perfect looking, never put a foot wrong etc it's a constant narrative both by media and on social media. Nobody is perfect, so how about stop pretending that anyone is, or that they should be expected to be, and tearing apart other women who you think are not.

Yes. The 'Kate never puts a foot wrong' business- what does that mean? That she is somehow the perfect woman, because she doesn't do or say much smiles, wears clothes, and is the perfect wife and mother. The Royals and their fans have turned her into Hilary Mantells ' painted doll'.

I think it's Kate herself that has created this 'perfect princess, never putting a foot wrong' persona. I remember when her children were babies and she had the big antique type pram and the kids often in period costumes. She always seems to be working very hard playing the part. I think she put huge pressure on herself.

AutumnCrow · 14/03/2024 21:40

WibblyWobblyJane · 14/03/2024 13:50

I wish people would stop bringing the nasty twitter stuff they read about these women here. Many people have said they never heard most of the worst parts except from people repeating it “out of concern”.

Agreed.

And using expressions like 'haters' is so puerile.

I agree. I think she has spent her entire formative years as an adult turning herself into Williams perfect wife material, dropping everything to go running whenever he wanted, at a time other bright young women were learning about themselves, making mistakes, building careers etc that she has to be the perfect wife in an archaic institution that treats prople who marry in with disdain at the best of times. She has kind of made her bed, but she made it at a very young age and before she had children.
