The royal family

Do the Royal Family just think we are really really stupid?

Bex5490 · 11/03/2024 11:30

Just that really. From Harry’s car chase to Prince Andrew being at a Pizza Express kid’s party.

And now we’re supposed to believe that the country’s biggest PR machine in the middle of a media storm just let Prince William take a casual Mothers Day pic on his iPhone, let the missus edit it and then post it to the world?

😒

Yes. Centuries of unearned privilege can have that effect.

Exactly this

SummaLuvin · 11/03/2024 13:28

Ineedwinenow · 11/03/2024 13:18

I feel really sorry for her that the photo is getting so much criticism, the poor woman has had major surgery, still probably looks and feels like shite ( I did after my surgery, I looked like I had been dug up for about 10 weeks afterwards, it wasn’t until the 3 month mark that I started to have a bit of colour and look better)

But in order to stop the incessant gossip she releases a photo to wish everyone a happy Mother’s Day possibly put filters on due to how she looks and feels and she’s still getting criticised.

If I was her I wouldn’t release anymore family photos, the press and public could fuck off.

this woman is going to be queen in under 30 years, expecting the press and public to "fuck off" is not really the job description.

Charles is 75 with cancer. Kate has had such a major surgery that she is unable to do any work for 3 months - including online, behind closed doors meeting with dignitaries, and basic ribbon cutting. Yes, the work can be taxing, but it can also be reduced to be very doable for someone who is less physically able (see 90yo+ QEII). Either Kate is lazy, this surgery is far more major than we have been led to believe, or it's something entirely different. Then we have Will (who has had fair critique for being workshy) dropping out of very important engagements with no notice for an allegedly entirely different issue. If it's true that it is a different problem it's concerning there is something else so serious going on, or it is to do with Kate. Either way, not good. The PR has been a disaster.

These people will be heads of state soon, and whether or not you like or agree with a royal family it is very concerning how blinding obvious their lack of preparedness to lead a country with stability and assurance is.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 11/03/2024 12:48

Bex5490, I didn't mean to be so blunt, I'm sorry. I loathe the idea of having a royal family so my views are totally skewed.

I think, to answer your question, men are not talking about how big Kate's head is or what she's wearing or how fat her face or little finger is today. That is the reality. The fact that so many women are earnestly discussing those things is detrimental to all women because it's so very visible.

I have rudely gatecrashed your thread and your post was polite so I will leave you with Cake and Brew and hope that it's warmer where you are today. Grin

No problem and thanks for such a nice apology!

MN is a discussion forum so all views should be welcomed and I definitely agree with the sentiment.

The RF as an institution that upholds archaic practices including sexist traditions clearly. I struggle to feel sorry for most RF members when you really look at the living conditions of a large proportion of society.

Is it any wonder W&C have rushed out a photo after both the public and the media have been baying like wild animals to a woman that had major abdominal surgery a few weeks ago. Bloody Bullies.

Roussette · 11/03/2024 13:29

Frisate · 11/03/2024 13:23

When you read any thread about the royal family on this website you understand why they believe they can just say whatever and people will believe them. People will bend over backwards to justify their behaviour and spin any negative story into something positive. In response to your question: yes, they do believe the British public is stupid.

^^ This

I just think they haven't got an ounce of common sense.

If they wanted to release something on Mother's Day, why not have just the kids painting or drawing a Mother's Day card with thanks from Kate for all the support from the public. Yes there would still be speculation but people would understand as she has been ill and it wouldn't have ended up with this complete cock up

(Before anyone says it is using the kids, they have done it before many a time so why not)

Lordofthewings · 11/03/2024 13:30

Possibly.

But they're also possibly thinking that social media needs to sit the hell down and let someone recover from surgery without ridiculous conspiracy theories forcing them to do anything.

BobbyBookcase · 11/03/2024 13:33

BenefitWaffle · 11/03/2024 12:47

And the press agencies asked for a copy of the original photo as proof that it was simply amateur editing to improve a photo. The Palace refused.

What is your source for this?

Roussette · 11/03/2024 13:34

So why issue a very badly doctored pic?

It's hardly helped has it...
It's weird

I go with my suggestion, the kids drawing a card, picking daffodils or whatever, with warm thanks from kate and no sign of her

Much better

Ineedwinenow · 11/03/2024 13:34

Yeah I genuinely would in this case tell the public to fuck off, we don’t own her, she’s her own woman with a medical issue, would you like being gossiped about on an international level? No probably not! I’ve seen awful things quoted on social media and on here about her and her health!

Yes we pay her and the RF a salary but to be honest I don’t want to know every private detail of everyone my taxes pay for! I don’t ask families what they do with their child benefit payment, I don’t ask disabled for their health updates and I don’t ask pensioners what they spend their pensions on because it’s not my business but because Catherine is in the public eye she is allowed to be gossiped about and probably made to feel like crap!

We are all women no matter our background so don’t we all deserve some privacy?? It was nice of her to release the photo ( possibly due to all the speculation) but I bet now she wished she hadn’t bothered

@Roussette , I didn't pay much attention to the story, and neither I have to the one about PoW.

Chances are the PoW had planned surgery and the recovery takes time. She has a right to privacy. I wouldn't want people discussing my health or lack of it

Gloriosaford · 11/03/2024 13:38

MushroomPizza · 11/03/2024 11:35

To be fair, there’s no shortage of people not only buying the bullshit but also trying to shout any scepticism down.

I agree the amount of apologists and cap doffers always surprises me, some people just love deferring to the aristocracy don't they 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not sure why that post is to me?
I agree though and haven't speculated here on her health or want more details
It's up to her

BobbyBookcase · 11/03/2024 13:33

The Palace refusal? I've read that on The Times and BBC websites. Apparently the news agencies asked for the raw photo and the Palace said no.

Bex5490 · 11/03/2024 13:35

🤣

Having been on the RF board for years, I can just get an idea of things will pan out. This is so predictable what has happened, it's untrue, and why their PR people can't see it, I do not know

SummaLuvin · 11/03/2024 13:42

@Ineedwinenow no-one here is asking for her medical file, just honesty. It seems at best we are been given very curated half truths, but more likely outright lies. The reason for speculation is why are they lying? What is being covered up? As I said, Will & Kate are next in line, and with Charles' illness may be needed to step up sooner than anyone hoped and this is poor.

Like @Roussette pointed out, there were ways to communicate positive messages yesterday that weren't purporting falsehoods, no-one demanded a photo, they choose to give one. If they stuck to the original line of "you won't see her until easter" then things would be chilled, maybe some speculation, but no basis for the storm they are facing now. It seems after Will pulled out of that speech their PR seem to have been in panic mode with that bizarre shot of Kate(?) in the car, now this doctored photo. Not at all reassuring.

Thedrownedprophet · 11/03/2024 13:42

The press no longer have H and M to feed off of. It was just a matter of time before they turned their laser focus back on W and K.

They also no longer have Piers Morgan and Dan Whooton around to act like dogs on the door for them.

They've been goaded into this and they cracked.

Sunshineandpinkclouds · 11/03/2024 13:42

I don't understand why this has become such a big PR shambles from the start - KP PR is not normally so incompetent. I didn't believe any conspiracy theories but now it does make me think there is in fact something they are hiding from us and take us for fools with their clumsy attempts to shut it all down.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/03/2024 13:45

I barely pay attention to anything "Royal", but it's amazing how utterly shit the KP PR team is. Unless, of course, this is all on purpose so that people do start to pay attention. If that's the case, they're brilliant. 😂

pubblehopper · 11/03/2024 13:46

I am sure they don't want nor need a team of professional photographers with them 24/7, they are allowed to take private family photos at home if they so desire, as we all do. It would have been a very different scandal if the photo had been taken by a professional photographer and subsequently released, all airbrushed and perfect, imagine .... 'if she is that ill, why is she doing a photoshoot'.

She looks beautiful, the kids are gorgeous, the iPhone editing screwed up some minuscule details in their photo and it has become the scandal of the century, so much for the Wales and the RF being irrelevant, eh !

At the end of the day, it's a small insignificant thing considering what Catherine has been through health wise along with the stress on the family. Hopefully they don't give a shit.

aliceinthecities · 11/03/2024 13:47

The picture was taken on a professional Canon camera, not a phone

areyoutheregod · 11/03/2024 13:48

someone said she's just used filters, thats not the case. The photo has been 'manipulated' is the word used, but anyone with some basic knowledge knows it's not a simple instagram filter situation.

MushroomPizza · 11/03/2024 13:48

Frisate · 11/03/2024 13:23

There’s a striking amount of projection and defensiveness re Kate in particular on MN.

A lot of people clearly find her very relatable, maybe because she reflects the core MN demographic, being a white middle class 40-something woman with school age children.

But that natural identification with her seems to morph into a militant impulse to defend her no matter how little anyone knows about the situation in question.

AristotelianPhysics · 11/03/2024 13:49

All seems very bizarre. They should have just stuck with the line that she wouldn’t be seen until after Easter. No real need to a post a picture.

EasterIssland · 11/03/2024 13:50

Lordofthewings · 11/03/2024 13:30

Possibly.

But they're also possibly thinking that social media needs to sit the hell down and let someone recover from surgery without ridiculous conspiracy theories forcing them to do anything.

Exactly. If she leaves the hospital too early post giving birth she’s criticised . If she wants to recover from a surgery without discussing what the illness is about she’s criticised. She might be the future queen but she’s also human and deserves her privacy respected. Something the press and the public aren’t doing.
