Very moving.

I've been looking forward to seeing this for a long time!

Iwantcakeeveryday · 16/08/2023 17:37

Thanks for sharing, really very moving. Gosh watching the woman speaking as shelling was going on, that is really intense. I really look forward to watching this.

AutumnCrow · 16/08/2023 18:07

I don't have Netflix so maybe eventually there will be another route for watching this. I know that other Netflix things have appeared on You Tube and other online platforms.

PrincessTigger · 16/08/2023 18:20

Looks good - Netflix really excel at this kind of thing. I will be watching!

onlylarkin · 16/08/2023 18:31

Can't wait to see it.

skullbabe · 17/08/2023 07:41

Looks really well done

IamSTARVING · 17/08/2023 13:54

Ex soldiers get such short shrift the value of this is hard to exaggerate.

I admire his commitment but also his ability.

ILikeDinosaurs · 18/08/2023 05:30

Wow that looks really good, can't wait for it.

While in no way denying that the Sussex two have a huge army of people who dislike/hate them they also have a huge army of people who really like them. We know this from book sales, downloads, sold out clothes etc.

In this instance - Invictus - I am pretty sure they are bots. I mean, these games are for the most horribly wounded/damaged defenders of the land. Who the hell is going to go out and slam anything set up for them, their health, their happiness?

Bot campaigns are not cheap - I would love to know who pays?

ALittleTeawithmilk · 25/08/2023 02:08

I’ve wondered the same IamSTARVING.

Who is paying for the bots?

(Like you, I’m not denying that Harry and Meghan aren’t liked by some, but there are definitely ‘bots’ at work.)

ALittleTeawithmilk · 25/08/2023 05:43

PS I am not saying there are bots on mumsnet.

On Twitter this past weekend, they were there in force.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 25/08/2023 08:42

Who the hell is going to go out and slam anything set up for them, their health, their happiness?

Isn't it sad? that people are so nasty they would do this? There was a 14 year old black child of a reality star who was targeted online because his mother simply didn't get on with a new woman and an investigation showed it was bots, there were so many as well it was crazy and he of course had to close his social. It was mostly racist attacks on him, but included serious threats. They never found who paid for the bots. I just feel despair when I think of things like that. There is so much good that can come from people being able to connect online but this bot thing and actual human hatred, are destroying it.

The statements on the you tube video were not complaining about the veterans, far from it, they were complaining that Harry and Meghan were making money from their association with the games. They said they were making money on the backs of injured servicemen. The comments were very scathing.

So nobody should do a documentary about Invictus or anything like it then? Otherwise someone might make money off it. Harry has clearly helped them enormously, to say he's just doing ti to make money just has no validity. Shame on everyone that left comments like that when the participants are so excited and happy about it. Just another thing to hate on. Its sad.

The royal family literally make their money they take from us by doing charity work, they call it 'a life of service'. Unless you complain about this, its just hypocrisy.

LegendsBeyond · 25/08/2023 09:04

Incredible people. It’s just a shame H&M are associated with them.

Not associated, Harry founded it and is a veteran himself.

William and kate contributed one and a half million from the phone hacking settlement and the royal foundation

There is no evidence Williams settlement was given to Invictus that I have seen, but happy to see whatever you might have showing otherwise.
The royal foundation agreed that as Harry had also contributed to the fundraising, his new charitable ventures should gain from it. That's what happened. Harry is the founder and is extremely involved with it. Its really sad people want to detract from this work and what it means to him and everyone involved with it. Many have spoken about how much Harry has helped them and how grateful they are he started this.
so the couple are definitely making money from the games
They are making money from producing a documentary about it, well we assume it. he has donated money form the book to Sentebale so who knows what they get specifically for this or what they might do with it.

Like I said, if you don't have a problem with the royal family making money from charity, then you can;t complain about what you think he might make from this. It will pale into comparison with what the royals have taken from the taxpayer.

There is plenty of documented evidence from royal reporters that William donated his phone hacking settlement to start the games, around 1/2 million.

No there isn't. There articles suggesting it, but I haven;t seen evidence of either a settlement or the donation, Harry was the only one to discuss the settlement and that was in a court case.

Deflecting onto arguments about his Sentebale project (which he may also be making money from with his upcoming Africa documentary?) and the royal family's charity work, is derailing this thread. We're talking about the Invictus Games, so I'm not going down that rabbit hole.

Its not derailing! Its a relevant point that you do not know what he does with his money and he has a record of donating his royalties to his charities. The royal family charity work is not derailing because its a direct comparison. Why argue about a private citizen who is making a documentary about a sports event, without knowing any details, while ignoring that his family literally get paid by us, to the tune of millions every year, for doing charity work. I am highlighting your own hypocrisy. This is the royal board, they're relevant on every thread.

I think this is such a great thing to make a documentary on, like a lot of documentaries they're about issues or stories that affect people who have suffered a challenge and overcome them. Its a great subject and they're great athletes, whoever did a documentary like this, will make a profit. It doesn't erase any separate charity work they do. I would hate it if peoples nastiness and negativity stopped people like them making stories like this.

beatan · 25/08/2023 10:24

@Ivyusername did you know that the invictus foundation is one of the executive producers of this show, hence the projected provided them significant funding.

Camilla!

(Just kidding! 😝)

beatan · 25/08/2023 10:31

@Ivyusername as i've shown you evidence of the games benefiting from this show, where is documented evidence from royal reporters that William donated his phone hacking settlement to start the games, around 1/2 million?

the 1/2 a million you're referring to is from the endeavour fund set up by Harry himself transferred to the Games when Harry left being a working royal.

Provide your proof and we can compare notes. Thank you.
