The trailer for 'Heart of Invictus" has been released by Netflix, and it looks incredible, and so moving.

For those interested, please find it here.

'Everything about Harry makes you so angry. It can’t be healthy'

I'm very healthy thanks and honestly he doesn't make me angry in the slightest I just find him fake. He exasperates me rather than angers me, I just wish he'd just move along amd let a more genuine person now take over.

MissElinorDashwood · 04/09/2023 18:07

I think everyone needs to move on.

Amazon has partnered with Invictus Games Düsseldorf, to provide free tickets to anyone who wants to attend the sporting events, in support of the annual sports games for wounded service personnel and veterans.

Thank you @skullbabe I watched a US news report with this the leader of this dance group. They’re impressive. I couldn’t post the link here though.

Really? Oh, that’s a shame for Invictus (announcing that just a few days out from the games generally means ticket sales have been poor).

This announcement was made months ago. It doesn’t mean you think it does.

That’s great (though I will always side eye Amazon even though I use them pretty much weekly - yes I’m a hypocrite). If you book your tickets to the event you can enter a draw for free entry to the opening ceremony. The tickets to the opening ceremony aren’t too bad for people paying full price (about £40 each) - and there appears to be lots of discounts.

You are correct I see - this was announced in May. To be honest that’s worse - a corporate sponsor will pay nowhere near the face price of tickets (which is a big revenue generator for events like this). So Invictus have sold their tickets to Amazon to distribute at a discount - they obviously didn’t have a high number of predicted sales.

MissElinorDashwood · 04/09/2023 18:35

Maybe, maybe not. It’s speculation either way so no point in commenting on it 🤷🏻‍♀️

EDIT: My point wasn't entirely correct. There is a German-made documentary on ex-soldiers training for the Invictus games being shown at the same time as the Invictus game opening. This is even stranger as I don't think it's related to the Netflix one? The blurb doesn't mention Prince Harry at all: https://www.br.de/br-fernsehen/programmkalender/ausstrahlung-3300174.html

The entire event, including opening ceremony, is not being shown anywhere on live German TV. Just had a look at all the TV listings website for Saturday 9 Sept. Interestingly, ZDF (comparable to BBC) have a short blurb for the games on their website but are not broadcasting the event.

This is really odd considering the scale of it, including opening acts like Macklemore. It's being hosted by two fairly well-known German TV presenters. Even obscure sport-only TV channels are showing American college football games at the same time as the Invictus opening games.

My best guess is that there was a fallout regarding broadcasting rights. Harry is heavily involved with Netflix and the tickets are sponsored by Amazon. There is a lot of tension between traditional broadcasters vs web streamers and possibly the reason all the TV channels decided to ignore the games. Alongside the aforementioned point that celebrating war veterans is a controversial topic in Germany to begin with.

A quick look at the Amazon free tickets page only generates a generic sign up form without allowing anyone to choose which type of sport they want to watch. That seems entirely pointless as someone who's there to support a particular athlete cannot even be sure they will get the right competition. And how do they expect locals to be interested attending the games if the entire event is not even being shown on TV? Dusseldorf is a small town with only 600K people.

Prince Harry will be a guest in the ZDF program "Aktuelles Sportstudio" September 9 joined by Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius (SPD) in the television program. The "Current Sports Studio" is moderated by Katrin Müller-Hohenstein and Sven Voss.

It's the biggest sports-related show on German TV.

So exciting!

It's great to hear how the veterans themselves are impacted by the Invictus Games, and the love and respect they have for Harry.

This is great work.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 06/09/2023 09:31

Thanks to @MrsMaxDeWinter for starting this and keeping it all on track.
To all the athletes, well done and good luck! I am so amazed by the documentary and look forward to cheering on Team GB and Yuliia for me too, her story has stayed with me all week and had my Mum in buckets of tears.
Well done for starting it all Prince Harry :)
